Staff are Very helpful and the rooms are well equipped, super clean and the food is brilliant.

Lack of maintenance in the bathroom (taps hard to turn on off) The place is clean enough but lacks a genuine value of guests No thanks or enquiring if we enjoyed our 3 nights stay.

Fab accommodation and great food. Well located. It also has very modern serviced apartments which use green technology in terms of air source pumps and solar energy.
The hotel has a restaurant menu with locally sourced food. Especially fab is the grass fed Orkney beef. A must are the local scallops, not to mention the splendicious Orkney Ice Cream A great place to relax after exploring the archaeological sites, Scapa Beach, Italian Chapel, Churchillian Barriers, Magnus Cathedral or just meandering through the bustling High Street teeming with local cuisine and local crafts. The Scapa Whisky and Fudge. A great place to base oneself before visiting the Scapa and Highland Park Distilleries or Orkney and Stromness Golf Courses. Remember you can play golf to nearly midnight in the Summer Season.

Had lovely lamb for Sunday lunch yesterday, highly recommended.

Great food. Reasonably priced.

Food was amazing, room was ok for the price… but it was sooo cold! The radiator on full and I was still under the duvet at 3pm just to stay warm. Maybe bigger radiators or something… I stay in orkney at least once a month, but I will bypass this hotel through the winter if it is the same next time.

Lovely hotel in a very central location. Friendly welcome and helpful staff. Room was spotless and the bed very comfortable. Good selection of meals available. Would definitely recommend this place.

Food was absolutely amazing couldn't fault it even slightly but I waited longer that I expected for my main and pudding but would definitely recommend the food.

Brilliant meal. Grandkids always ask to go there for lunch. Good selection of kids meals.

Very friendly comfortable hotel the staff are very helpful. You can order a early breakfast if you need to catch a inter island ferry. Good size car park and good location for Kirkwall.

Spotlessly clean, basic hotel. Small room, very quiet despite being on the seafront by the harbour, very hard bed!

Perfectly spacious rooms, well appointed with a very large bed! Bathroom was a little dated but perfectly functional. Location is great with lovely views but still round the corner from the town centre. Great dinner on the first night, breakfast was fine for a buffet. Like everyone in Orkney the staff are lovely and I'd happily come back.

Stayed here for a week and absolutely loved it. The food at their restaurant was delicious and I made sure to try as much as I could; as proven by the pictures. The room was very clean and comfortable, I always had a good nights sleep here. To add their staff were very friendly and I felt very welcome here. If I visit Kirkwall again I would definitely come back here.

Had a meal with family here on Sunday night. Everyone was very pleased with what they got. The char grill chicken burger and banoffee waffles were especially good.

Too the bartender that served us and also made our little girl feel really welcome I thank you, bar and restaurant are great.

Brilliant hotel offering a lively local bar that welcomes tourists and travellers, and a stunning restaurant with five star food. Excellent Base to see all the sites in Orkney, and have a relaxing pint and tasty evening meal after your adventures.

Stayed for 4 nights recently, and would definitely recommend this hotel. The room was large and comfortable and very clean. The breakfast, which was included in the price was huge and very well cooked, there was also a large continental choice. The evening meals in the restaurant were very tasty and with good sized portions, excellent local produce with something for everyone. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. Would go back again.

The staff are very helpful. We stayed in the new self catering flats at the back. The accessible one was exactly what we needed. I wouldn't want to self cater there for any length of time because the kitchen facilities are basic — two hotplates, one small combined oven / microwave / grill, no dish drainer — but it's leased by the day, it's clean and very comfortable, very accessible and exactly what we needed. Thoroughly recommended.

Great meal on a Saturday night. They do a great job of food in the Ayre, as they do in most places in Kirkwall. We were a large party but the meals arrived in good time and I didn't hear a complaint from anyone, only clean plates. Would certainly go again.

I've never stayed in the Ayre Hotel because I live in Kirkwall but I do occasionally come here to have a meal. There is a good big car park here with a wheelchair accessible entrance. The whole place has a very warm, relaxed atmosphere and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. They make you feel like you're the only customer. They said absolutely wonderful food and have an enormous selection of beers, wines and spirits. They do a three course meal but I only ever have one course because the portion sizes are so big. The food is freshly cooked to order and is always top quality. I only drink whisky and not any other spirits but I know that they do a wide variety of whiskies and I'm sure probably do a wide variety of other spirits as well. I sometimes come here for a meal if I have an hour to spare, want to have a meal with a friend, for a special occasion or just to treat myself. You can come here for any occasion.

Owners take pride in this hotel. Staff should be on a good wage, they all do a great job. Best hotel I've been at on Orkney… Well done. People can go here for just a drink or meal. Guest staying here all have lovely rooms with clean, fresh bedding. Or you could spend a few nights in the self catering block, even these are excellent.

Nice location right on the water. Very friendly staff, always with a smile. The room was Spartan but efficient. The bathroom light and fan were connected and the fan would continue after the light was off. This was a little annoying. The breakfast was decent. The restaurant was also good.

Lovely meal with friends. Food was great. Service good. Nice chat with Wendy who kindly got me a copy of their menu to put in our B&B rooms. Will certainly recommend The Ayre to our guests for a meal.

Great pub, nice apartment style rooms.

I've only been to the bar here but it was very generic, with no character and staff who were sat reading the newspaper. They do have real ale.

We were here 4 years ago and hope to return to beautiful Orkney soon. Will book here again when we do cos it was clean, bright and the food was excellent! Hope the standard hasn't dropped cos we have Orkney on our minds!

Was twice at the hotel and I still like it very much. Best ist a room with look on the little harbour. Second time I was there with my parents. Staff was very nice and top. Did a lot to give us the feeling of well care and the kitchen even did some extras for us. So we could enjoy great meals (great lobster, even greater plum-pudding), we shared the atmosphere. What else could we expect? A lot of nice talk, some jokes and great fun.
