Reviews of Sandras Backpackers 4*
Train to Inverness was delayed therefore called ahead to say it would be late, person speaking was very unaccomodating as well as showing no understanding. Hostel refused to accept us. Not good.
We came in very late on the train, after 10pm. We called the number on the door and someone came down right away. Service was fast and friendly. The room (private room, private bath) was small but clean and cozy. Newer bathroom with shower. TV in the room. We were able to store food in the fridge. The breakfast was easy and ‘help yourself whenever’ (cereal, milk, tea/coffee, toast). Great value. Quiet and safe. It has a quirky layout. I’d come back.

I'll start with the positives the room was clean enough, the shower was hot and there was a good selection of food. Now the negatives the shower had basically no more than a dribble to it there was dirt all over the extra to vent and the door was damn near impossible to open. The main negative however was the man (I can't call him a gentleman) who gave us our room. We got a room a little late as we changed our plans from camping as the weather had taken a turn for the worse. I phoned in advance and arrived 30 minutes later to be greeted by a very grumpy man. It was as if we were a massive inconvenience to be there. We didn't know at the time but it was cash only so we said we would get some cash out from the ATM a minutes walk away. The whole time this conversation was going on he was swearing under his breath and as we walked out the door to go get said cash he muttered something about us being b*****ds. To say he was rude would be an understatement. When we got back with our cash he soon changed his tune and was rather chipper… odd that hey? The gentleman we saw the morning after was very polite and is the only reason I am being as generous with the stars. I can not recommend staying here unless you are in a tight spot late at night and you have no alternative.
