Probably the worst place I have ever stayed, three beds in a tiny room at the top of the house, no fire escape. Grubby… I would never go back.

Warm people, cozy environment. I liked the kitchen.

Good location, stayed in a double room with a private bathroom. Clean enough with everything you need in the kitchen area. Shower isn't very powerful but the water is hot.

You need a full reform.

Limits of decency widely exceeded, we slept clothes.

Great location, rooms and furniture is quite old but it's very clean, there are bathrooms in the rooms, the kitchen is very well equipped with tea/coffee/musli/corn flakes available for everyone, the staff is friendly and helpful. It's very close to the beach, the castle ruins and the high street. The only thing that might be a slight nuisance are very thin walls and floors so you basically hear every step/squeak/screech and conversation from other rooms:)

There are far too few hostels like this left. It's basic, it's happily inexpensive, breakfast is included, it's clean, it's central, the staff are lovely, there are probably 5 or 6 eating places within 5 minutes walk. I did not use the cooking facilities but they seemed quite adequate. You're talking hostel here, not hotel, and anyone reviewing it as the latter is missing the point. The only point that doesn't seem to have been mentioned is that all the accommodation is up 1 or 2 flights of outside stairs and therefore is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties. Great place!

The cleanliness shines by his absence. The cooking utensils dirty, the rooms dirty, small… Not recommended.

It is located in a quiet area, the room needs conditioning, toilet well and clean. The breakfast you have to do it yourself, they leave you the kitchen and the products (milk, coffee, butter, etc)

Reading through some previous reviews I cannot believe the ignorance and stupidity of some people. This place is a Backpacker's Hostel. It's a perfectly good Backpacker's Hostel. It is not, however, a cheap B&B. If you want a lovely, quaint little place to base your family holiday from, get in a hotel or B&B and pay for that luxury. Great hosts, very friendly and helpful. Location is great for wandering around Thurso. Rooms clean and shower produced hot water. Watch out for Malcy in The Commercial Pub down the road, he's a card shark. This is the first Hostel I've stopped in and I'll be stopping in them alot more from now on.

The rooms are very small and clean. From the window went up the smells of the kitchen below. It's fine as a stopover for one night before taking the ferry. Cheap price.

Room was of a decent and well kempt. Staff were friendly and were helpful in ensuring our stay was comfortable as possible. Cooking facilities were adequate and well equipped. Situated right in the centre of Thurso so within walking to all pubs/ restaurants and the beach. Would stay again.

Great place for backpackers and young couples. Its clean enough. Great location.

Never Never never again, everywhere in bed hairs have been the landlord. We are in the evening within the hostel to another room because it was really unbearable. The general cleanliness leaves nothing to be desired. How this store can get such good reviews is inexplicable to me. If you have a choice, don't go here!

Small and empty hostel. Room facilities are old and require renovation. Beds are made of wood and shaky. No reading lights or broken. Wireless internet is poor in the room. In the kitchen The WLAN is very good. TV in the room. Good starting position to explore the north. Fish & Chips opposite is cheap and tasty (there you can also try fried sweets). On the way to the north is worth a stop at Dunrobin Castle.

Had another decent stay at this hostel together with my wife, in a private double room. Room was clean and comfortable, and the price was reasonable too, though had gone up £10 from last June's price (in perspective this was a 25% increase). I'd still probably recommend it and revisit too though, as the host James goes out of his way to help you.

Quite messy and cumbersome for the price you pay.

The hostel is in a very bad conditon. The kitchen was very dirty.

Affordable hostel with a huge kitchen to cater for Yourself! Rooms are located over three floors. Ok, for a quick stay over.

It has Wi-Fi, that's about the only good bit. Kitchen has potential to be nice but isn't kept tidy, overall very average.

I don't know about the hostel but the food is good :).
