Review of The Battledown Bed and Breakfast 5*

Beware the positive reviews — the owners of this business like to have negative reviews removed from travel websites, so you can't trust them. We had a very unpleasant stay here in May of 2018. The most major problem we experienced was the unwelcoming attitude of the owner. We felt very uncomfortable in the house, as if being judged and belittled. For example, a request for fresh towels was met with passive-aggressive remarks. The owners, though aware of our unhappy experience, have offered no apology, but instead continue to treat us with rudeness and hostility. We cannot recommend this experience to other travellers. In addition, our bed was not comfortable, the shower was too small to comfortably wash in, and the location was not convenient to the main centre of town. The door lock to our room was very tricky to work, and the noise from the bathroom fan kept us awake at night. On arrival, we were asked to wait in a sitting room instead of being shown straight to our room, which was annoying after a long journey. These small negatives wouldn't have bothered us, if not for the truly nasty attitude of the people who run this place. Save yourself from a similar experience, and don't stay here. Edit: In reply to the below response, the property owners "reported" my wife's review of this B&B before she kindly offered to remove it (as it obviously upset them). It is clear to us that, while many guests are treated well here, others are a target of wilful hostility. I cannot recommend that you gamble to see which type of guest you will be.
