Beware the positive reviews — the owners of this business like to have negative reviews removed from travel websites, so you can't trust them. We had a very unpleasant stay here in May of 2018. The most major problem we experienced was the unwelcoming attitude of the owner. We felt very uncomfortable in the house, as if being judged and belittled. For example, a request for fresh towels was met with passive-aggressive remarks. The owners, though aware of our unhappy experience, have offered no apology, but instead continue to treat us with rudeness and hostility. We cannot recommend this experience to other travellers. In addition, our bed was not comfortable, the shower was too small to comfortably wash in, and the location was not convenient to the main centre of town. The door lock to our room was very tricky to work, and the noise from the bathroom fan kept us awake at night. On arrival, we were asked to wait in a sitting room instead of being shown straight to our room, which was annoying after a long journey. These small negatives wouldn't have bothered us, if not for the truly nasty attitude of the people who run this place. Save yourself from a similar experience, and don't stay here.

Stayed here from 20th to 22nd march This is a fantastic place, rooms and facilities brilliant, lovely friendly and the best breakfast in Cheltenham, would love to come again and would whole heartedly recommend the Battledown Bed And Breakfast, 10 out of 10

We've chosen not to go back in 2018 and given that we stayed there since 2002 through Sue and Colin and now Simon and Sarah it was disappointing to get a THAT'S GREAT THANKS FOR LETTING US KNOW reply and as yet no one asking us why!

Nice rooms, very friendly and really good breakfast.

Stayed here during a visit to the Cheltenham Literary Festival. Location was easy to find and close to the centre of town. Hosts were extremely helpful and informative from start to finish. Room was immaculate and really well designed. Was lovely and warm with great choice of teas and coffee. Breakfast was super efficient and really tasty. Home made jam and marmalade should be marketed. Cannot rate this stay more highly all in all. A delight!

What a great find in Cheltenham. Excellent accommodation and superb breakfast. A very warm welcome was waiting on our arrival and lots of personal touches had been added to the very comfortable rooms. An easy walk into the city centre.

Stayed here last month for the first time and hopefully it won't be the last. Simon and Sarah are a very welcoming couple who clearly take pride in their beautiful home that they share with guests. They give a wonderful warm welcome: the rooms are extremely comfortable, the breakfast is a delight with home made preserves, a wide choice of teas and coffees as well as food menu, served in a lovely dining room. This family business will not disappoint anyone who chooses to stay at The Battledown. The house is within easy walking distance of the town centre, the garden is available for sunbathing on warmer days and there is plenty of parking. My husband and I wholeheartedly and unreservedly recommend staying here.

Our first stay but it will not be our last. Elegant colonial style house with good parking facilities. Keen attention to service and detail from proprietors Sarah and Simon. High quality and tasteful double (en-suite) bedroom. Large airy breakfast room with views to pleasant rear garden and seating areas. Excellent breakfast tailored to meet personal requirements and with added touches that make a difference eg home-made preserves. Main road location and shortish distance to city centre do not detract from overall highly enjoyable experience. Close proximity to racecourse and cricket ground a bonus for some!
