A bit dated but facilities in good working order. Plenty of hot water when needed. This is not the swankiest of places but it was spotlessly clean. Excellent, tasty cooked breakfast. Every mouthful is a delight if you like a good fry up. The food is quality and nicely cooked. Andy is a character. If I could find a fault it was only that they don’t serve fresh coffee from grounds, just instant. The waitress didn’t even seem to know that coffee should be made from grounds not powder from a jar.

Staff were very accommodating and friendly when we arrived with 2 toddlers, fully booked with only outside tables, which we were happy to take but they found us a table inside because they thought it would rain! Food was beautiful, definitely recommend going for curry night on a Wednesday and steak was cooked very well!

I visited Ambleside for the Fred Whitton cycle event. Alison made me very welcome. Just a 5 minute was from the centre of town. The room was comfortable with a private bathroom. I missed the usual breakfast on the Sunday (due to my 5am start) but was provided with cereal and tea anyway. The Monday breakfast was great quality and I savoured every mouthful. I would highly recommend a stay here and look forward to a return visit with my wife and dog.

Just back from a 2 night stay as a family of 3 (2 adults and a 10 year old). We cannot praise this guest house enough! Rooms were beautiful, breakfast was delicious with a great choice and the guest house itself was immaculately clean and perfectly located. On arrival we were greeted by Alison who was both friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area. We were given a free parking permit for a carpark literally a couple of minutes away.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay in the Coniston Retreat and could not find a single fault. From the minute we arrived, everything was perfect. The lodge is stunning and immaculately clean. Every detail is thought out and there wasn’t a thing missing. The location is perfect and the views are stunning. We will definitely be returning and booking the lodge again. Highly recommend.

2nd stay at Avonwood Holiday park. First stay was in Coniston lodge in 2019 and this September we stayed in Rydal Retreat. Where to start, Christine and Andrew are friendly and helpful. The welcome pack was delightful and certainly went down well, cheers. The lodge itself is well maintained and has everything you need, comfy bed, comfy sofas and the view from the garden was breath taking. The hot tub was so relaxing and a lovely bonus. We would highly recommend a stay at Avon Wood.

Tasteful decor to the newly refurbished lounge, bar and dining/ breakfast room. Piping hot food served at evening meal. Buffet style breakfast. Crisp white bedding and towels. Pleasant staff. Couldn't give 5 stars, as our room was one that hadn't had a refurb. It was small, old and tired, as was the old flickering portable TV and dusty headboard. We couldn't leave the window open during the night, as it opened outward and had no locks. (ground level and mini heatwave). Excellent shower!

Just got back after stopping at the hydro for 2nights. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The food was value for money and would recommend anyone to eat there. Our room was clean and had a balcony love the view from there. Could not have asked for any were else to stay for our first trip to the lakes. The only draw back was the staff are young and need a little more training. Also you need more staff on at meal times to keep it flowing more smoothly.

Gill and Philip were lovely hosts, they couldn't do enough for you, breakfast was lovely what more could you ask for definately stop there again.

Absolutely amazing! Me and my partner stayed here at the lovely Bay House Lake View in Bowness-On-Windermere. The room was absolutely beautiful, exceptionally clean with a gorgeous view of the lake. Perfect location, within minutes of the town centre.
The breakfast was to die for! Cooked to perfection! I can’t commend and thank Phil and Jill enough for their hospitality, they are both so incredibly welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be staying here next time we visit the lakes!

We stayed at Storrs for a wonderful 5 days. The grounds, the building, the staff, the food were faultless, sublime. I can’t recommend it enough. Sarah and Mark HEARFIELD.

On our way home after a lovely stay with sherry and Angus, they have make our stay so enjoyable. They gave us great advice on restaurants in the area and pubs to drink in you even get discount in the pub across the rd. Angus makes a fantastic breakfast with sherry catering to our every need.

Just back from 5 days at this guest house. Anne Marie and Paul are very welcoming and make you feel at home straight away. The rooms are meticulously clean. Breakfasts are a treat and there is a great selection to choose from. I would recommend this guest house to anybody, and I will certainly be making a return. Thanks for a great time. Roy and Karen.

This is the best B&B we have ever stayed in. We couldn’t fault it at all. There was plenty of choice for breakfast, all freshly cooked. The rooms were decorated beautifully with lovely Bath House products in the bathroom. Every room was spotless and we were made to feel very welcome and will certainly be booking again.

Set in the heart of windermere village close to all the pubs and restaurants and we will definitely be returning again!

Lovely stunning adult only guest house run by Anthony and Vivian we was in room 1 as my partner is disabled and in a wheelchair and what a lovely delight room the wet room is spot on and decorated to a high standard we choosen the king size bed which was roomy and comfortable, it as a mini fridge which as milk orange juice and water inside which was lovely also tea coffee biscuits etc. Breakfast was delicious you could choose from full breakfast to eggs salmon toast cereals tea coffee juices.

We had the most pleasant stay, the hospitality from the moment we stepped in was exemplary! The rooms were regal yet had modern features particularly the bathroom. We would recommend this to any couples looking for a quiet stay!

What a perfectly located and lovely place to stay. Rob and Becky were so helpful and Rob certainly knew the fells in the lake district and local info with buses and boats. Room was perfect for a 2 night stay, very clean and well stocked with tea, coffee and biscuits. Even a decent television in the room. Location is about 15 mins walk to Bowness and 10 mins walk to Windermere with lots of choice for restaurants and bars. Main bus from Bowness to Grasmere via Ambleside is 3 mins walk.

We had a lovely relaxing stay at Ellerbrook house. Hosts Rob and Becky were so welcoming and fabulous hosts and very knowledgeable about the area. Ellerbrook was central to all the local amenities. The room was spotlessy clean, bed was very comfortable and bedding was top quality.
Breakfast choice was great and the products used were excellent.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Would highly recommend Ellerbrook house.

Good location. Shops, restaurants and bars all on your door stop. Car parking is off site but free and 5 minutes walk away. Room was clean and comfortable but we were on the top floor 60 stairs to get to could be a killer! Room was very stuffy and hot but we were provided with a fan. Air con wouldn't have gone a miss. Enjoyable stay we would consider returning. Thanks for a great stay.

My partner and I really enjoyed our stay at Norwood House over the New Year period. Ideal location, lovely room (room 7), free parking, quality breakfast, great value and lovely host.
We have stayed at many Ambleside Hotels and B&B’s over the years and this is right up there with the best. We hope to return there very soon.

My sister and I traveled to ambelside for our yearly trip. We chose Norwood house as it had parking. The owners were lovely and knew the area so well so we got a little less lost when on our walks. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast in the morning was delicious and plenty to keep you going till lunchtime, they had good options for vegetarian (my sister and I are veggies). The room was lovely and the place was easy access to everywhere.

So close to town but quiet, room great added bonus small fridge in room. Hosts could not be more friendly. The whole property shows their attention to detail.
