Stayed here for one night and the basement room was the worst lodging experience I’ve had! First though, the price and location were both great. The building is wonderful, and the upper levels seemed nice. And our host Keisha was just fabulous! But… Our room ended up being in the basement and that basement really shouldn’t have guests in it until it gets fixed up! There’s three rooms in the basement, and we were in room 1. I’m assuming 2 and 3 are in similar states, but did not actually see them. So about room 1… The first thing you notice when you walk in is the smell. It is MUSTY! We immediately opened the windows to try to air it out, and while walking across the carpet discovered a big wet spot of unknown origin. We got the windows open and the room aired a bit, but the smell returned as soon as the windows were closed. Besides the wet spot (that never seemed to dry or shrink in the day/night we were there), the threadbare carpet was dotted all over with small whitish spots. My first thought was that it was mold or mildew spots, (either would certainly go with the wetness and smell), but upon closer inspection and thought I realized it was likely, (and certainly hope it was), baking soda. It appeared the staff is attempting to combat the smell with generous applications of baking soda. — Which, needless to say, is not working.

Great bare bones place to stay. Quiet and clean. Breakfast fare very basic but ok.

I am not the best at writing reviews. Will give it a try. I was not sure what to expect. This was my first time trying a B&B. Date of my stay was 5/22 — 5/24/2018. I found the Capitol Hill B&B. To be clean, comfortable, and quiet. Was about a mile from the Mall. Walked to the Smithsonian Castle both days. Took about 45mins. On 5th and H street. About a mile from the B&B. There are some restaurants. One of them is vegan. There is also a Whole foods, & a Starbucks. There is a small park on the way to H street. So you can stop to rest if you need to. About a block away. On 4th & East Capitol street. There is a small grocery store. There is also a bike share rack there. I was only there for two days. I do think if all you need is a clean place to sleep so you can explore during the day. You may want to check this one out. Rob.

Cannot say enough about this place. Charming. The women who run it (three generations include the cutest baby ever) were attentive, gracious and really added that special something to my trip.

For the price, very inexpensive compared to other things in this area, this place was phenomenal. I was worried re: the shared bathroom, having a bunch of early morning meetings that it would not be convenient to get ready. It all worked out great. My room was tiny but I expected this as it was advertised as such. It was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was nothing fancy — cereal, toast and coffee — but this was no surprise as it was advertised as such. It was all I needed to start the day. There is a convenience store a block away where they sell fresh fruit, snacks, wine etc. — so you can grab anything you need. The neighborhood is gorgeous. It was a quick walk to Capitol Hill. I felt safe walking home alone from dinner in the evening. Keisha was EXTREMELY warm, welcoming and helpful. I would stay here again.

When I arrived I was greeted by name. I found my hosts to be welcoming and accommodating. They even offered to store my belongings for the rest of the day after checkout. My room was small but very comfortable. The bathroom was clean. My only complaint is that there was no AC, but this was trivial compared to how otherwise enjoyable my stay was. If I'm ever in DC again I will definitely be staying here!

One description of the B&B mentioned "unfussy" rooms. Spartan might be a better term, but perfectly serviceable. Rooms are on the second and third floors with no elevator — hadn't thought about that. The stairs are like an Amsterdam canal house — quite narrow, somewhat steep, very creaky. The beds were like bunks, but not stacked, raised high enough to allow a two-drawer unit to fit underneath — the only storage provided. No closet, just a few pegs on the wall with hangers. The room was large, but with lots of empty space. No comfy furniture in the room, but the main floor living room was very nice. Breakfast is very basic, but as described. Coffee was make-your-own with a Keurig, which was a fine idea — no coffer maker in the room. The place could be better maintained, but the location is great and the price is reasonable for the area. As long as you understand the details, and this style of accommodations suits you, you'll be well-served. Access is by key-code, provided a day or so before arrival. Everything went smoothly.

Excellent B&B, clean, tidy and close to the National Mall.

I visited the Capitol Hill B&B on a recent visit to D. C. To see the Supreme Court. This place was ideal for walking, being just a few blocks from the Court, Capitol building, and many other important buildings and landmarks. It's also near the train station for both local and long-distance travel. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the bed was comfortable. The next time I'm in D. C. I'll be staying here again!

Good fast breakfast. Rooms were exceptionally clean. Great safe neighborhood and the managers were very friendly.

What a place, great hospitality, local knowledge and relaxed atmosphere! Could not recommend more highly.

Good place as far as bed and breakfast! Clean, cozy room with a shared bathroom. Hosts were friendly, helpful, and prompt with responses. Bathroom was a little cramped and unorganized, but clean and maintained. Breakfast was light, but coffee and tea (kurig) were 24hr.

Delightful owner, sub-par property. The floors and stairs creak no matter who is walking, the sound carries from the ground floor to every room, and the walls are so thin that you hear everything anyone else is doing. However, you'll pay significantly less than you would to stay downtown, which makes it more worth it.

This Bed & Breakfast is absolutely lovely. They have been so friendly to us, the breakfast they provide is quite good and it's in such a great location for the price!

It was a much better alternative to cookie cutter box hotels that were charging 300 bucks. For about 1/3 of a hotel price, we stayed in a quaint old but restored home. The staff were accomodating. I could see the capitol building in the window laying in bed. It was about 2 or 3 blocks from it. The breakfast served was simple but good. I would and have recommended this place.

Breakfast good but self-service, spacious and bright room. Very high beds. Sufficient cleaning.

Great service so far! The owners are nice people. The B&B is located close to the mall of Washington. It's a ten minute walk. The rooms are also good. Basic bunk beds and bathroom, but tidy and clean. The only thing that could be approved is the breakfast. It's a bit too basic for me. I would like to have more choice what I want to eat in the morning.

I got ripped off here! They put me in a a basement room that looks NOTHING like these photos. The room REEKED of years of cigarette smoke and layers of nicotine. They assured that they would take care of me. They burned incense in an attempt to remove the smell (?! ) They wouldn't change my room or return any of my phone calls or texts. I left and went to another hotel. I asked for a refund, but I was already charged for 3 days and I am disputing it now through the bank. Nightmare!
