The rooms were nice! The beds in ours were a little small, but still fit two people each. The staff are very nice too! Lots of history around this hotel since it's right next to the Alamo, it's great! Would definitely recommend!

Great hotel experience. Poor room service from the restaurant. Ordered in-room breakfast for 3. One meal should have included fruit compote but instead only a thin slice of strawberry. The next meal was a fried egg sandwich from the menu. It arrived as scrambled eggs and sausage links (think McDonald's). Called for replacement and was told there's not a friend egg sandwich on the menu (I ordered from their menu on the phone with them) and since it "would be too slippery to make" they thought scrambled would be better for me. The third meal did not arrive and had to be sent 30-minutes later. Highly inflated prices with a 20% service fee and $2 delivery fee plus tip made this ridiculous and embarrassing. Most expensive meal we never received.

If your a history buff like met this place is amazing, it is also considered one of the most haunted hotels in the country. However if you want a spacious room or large bathroom with lots of extras you might want to look elsewhere in the area. I loved my stay and will be returning, highly recommended. Great staff, great place, even the spirits are friendly.

The hotel is very historic! Our room was nice, clean and with view of the pool. The restroom was a bit small but no biggie. The pool is spacious and hot tub was nice. What I liked the most was the location of the Hotel. Main spots are minutes away from walking distance. The riverwalk is three minutes, the mall is next door, the Alamo is in front, and you have many eating options outside near the hotel. Good spot if you don't want to drive around and pay for parking everywhere. Great customer service and everyone at the Menger! See you soon!

Beautiful historical hotel. Everyone was so friendly and attentive. The food was great as well. Wonderful cut of steak! Only one complain, we didn't find any ghosts! :)

We've found classic, historical hotels to offer charm, history and often value. The Menger is located next to the Alamo (we could see it from our window). The rooms are old but in great condition and very roomy. The beds are quite comfortable. The Menger has a lively and historic bar as well as a large restaurant. It is within walking distance from everything one would want to see and do in San Antonio.

The bar was great! It's filled with beautiful hand carved wood, nice cocktails, and a fun little upstairs balcony. The bar is full of history — including Teddy Roosevelt and his rough riders. If you're looking for a neat place to stop for a drink after going to the fiesta days, this hits the spot.

Very disappointed! The world famous Menger bar doesn't have one single beer on draft! Got to my room and the temp was 65F — turned on heat and temp went down to 63F. No working heating in my room. The bathrooms (two double beds room) are tiny with no shower or sink racks to put your toiletries in. Bathroom decor is circa 1960 and about the size of a closet. No in-room refrigerators. I had to get 5 magnetic key cards because they kept losing their ability to open my door. You can sprinkle glitter on a mud pie but it's still a mud pie. Not worth the price. You can find a Hilton or Hyatt hotel with more amenities cheaper than the Menger.

From the moment I met the valet, through the entire stay and checked my truck out, the staff was SO very nice and accommodating. Check in was very personal & easy. The manager even allowed my children to check out the Presidential suite. I'm telling you, there's nothing more important than service & cleanliness and The Menger Hotel EXCEEDS both. A special thanks to Dominique in valet for always being available and Luz, his manager/supervisor. A very special thank you to the hotel manager, and Daniel, a very informative housekeeper who really made my children's stay more enjoyable! We will surely come back for our future visits!

So my husband and I had went there because we love history but we had just got married. First of all, we requested a room with a balcony and a bathtub, which we understood was not a guarantee but we had booked the room back in January. Only to find out that the room we were given was not that because they book out the rooms on a first come first serve basis. After I went down there and spoke with 3 different people, we were moved that Wednesday. The first thing my husband did was get in the shower because we had been out all day and to our disgust, there was black D I R T, you read that right, dirt in the back of the tub which did not come from my husband so I made him get out and we called the front desk and they said they'd send someone, which never happened. So we were left shower-less for two days. Then the valet was rude, if you're a 24 hour valet service, don't be angry when at 8:30 we ask to bring the car around so we can get something out. Or when we wanted to check out, or really anytime we asked them to bring the car around. This hotel has a gimmick and it's a horrible place to stay. No one has a clue of what they're doing.

I stayed at the Menger hotel in San Antonio, Texas from 3/9/18 until 3/11/18 for a wedding. The first thing that we had to do was valet our new 2018 car that we purchased 5 days prior. This hotel requires valet due to its location. The valet did a walk around the car and said there was a dent. The dent did not exist and I explained that this was the first trip that we had taken with the vehicle. Why would the valet make up false claims about the condition of our vehicle? We proceeded to check into the hotel. From the valet to walking into our hotel room took around 20 minutes. Once we entered our room we noticed that it had not been cleaned. The bed was in disarray, pillows were leaned against the head board and sheets were at the foot of the bed. There was a used glass on the bathroom sink and dirty towels on the floor. I immediately called the front desk to tell them about the dirty room. Their response was to send someone up to clean. I stated that I wanted a different room but could not move my belongings immediately due to being late for the rehearsal dinner. In response to this the front desk said I would have to move my belongings now or there would not be another room available later. I decided to let them clean the room and handle the situation later. When I returned to the hotel I spoke with the same person at the front desk about the issue. They offered me 2 free drink tickets! I said that would not cover it so they offered a $50.00 discount for the room.

Very nice place to start an evening with a few drinks. Did not try the appetizers or food options on the menu, could have been good. Excellent location, as it is right across from the Alamo, River Walk and Rivercenter Mall. Heard it's also part of one of the local haunted tour sites and there is some historical significance to the bar.

This hotel is beautiful. The staff are amazing. It was so convenient to everything. Rooms were spacious and did I say the staff are amazing. The lady that was our server every morning in the restaurant went out her way to make you feel welcome. I would go back in a heart beat!

The Menger Hotel was founded as one of the best places to stay in the area. I can say it faithfully lives up to the history. Really, my only complaint is with the hot water. Sometimes you'll be hit with a very hot burst of water with no warning. Everything else though, from the ambience to the breakfast buffet is top notch.

Our room was small but so beautiful. The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were high quality. The room was clean well. The bathroom was antique looking (as the hotel is very old) the only problem was the water temperature in the shower was hard to control. We had a huge window with a great view of the Alamo. The Alamo is just across a narrow road, many 200' away! Through out the lobby there are vintage item with description of how it relates to the hotel. The restaurant was very nice and was happy to please.

Only went to the bar for drinks. Small, but toasty bar. Kind of a wood cabin feel. The drinks menu was very interesting and crafty. The mint chocolate martini was delicious, and I also had a Manhattan there — good and strong.

I just want to say that this hotel is very pretty. However, we came for the Christmas brunch and I was so thoroughly disappointed. The food that was supposed to be hot was cold. The food wasn't the quality of food I was hoping for at this hotel. Maybe don't leave the lids only covering half of the food? Just a thought. The room where we were seated was cold as well and had no music. The room on the other side was warm, so we got the short end of the straw. Only one glass of champagne was included in the price. If I'm spending $50 a person then that better include bottomless mimosas. The only good thing included was the valet, which goes for $28, so that was nice. All in all, was it worth the price? Not even close. Go somewhere else next time.

The hotel is classic and beautiful, they've kept all the best parts of its history on display. (And there's a LOT of history to be had when it comes to the Menger. ) It's very well kept and the staff are relentlessly kind and impeccably professional. The pool and the garden are BEAUTIFUL and well kept, even in the winter. I was ecstatic to have a room directly looking out onto the garden. The Menger is less than a 5 minute walk from both The Alamo and the Riverwalk and it was very easy to visit both even though I was only there for one evening. It is alleged to be haunted and I couldn't help but to go explore in the middle of the night. I'm well aware that the staff did not have to accommodate this in any way, however, they were very nice and did so anyway. I would love to stay at the Menger Hotel again and I intend to do so the next time I'm in San Antonio.

The Menger is a historic hotel so I went to get Pokémon where Theodore Roosevelt and his Rough riders were. Very father the Lugarsito this. Besides it is in the center of San Antonio.

I attended a Christmas party at the Menger Hotel. I had a great experience! The every staff member I encountered was friendly and courteous. Their valet is comparable in price to self parking in the area, but was extremely convenient. The party was elegant and ran very smoothly. I would recommend to other corporate groups interested in booking their services.

This is more of a (disappointed) experience… I spent my anniversary at the Colonial restaurant. There, I had a great experience. It happened when I needed to use the restroom. The nearest one was closed for cleaning. I desperately needed to go. I asked this (old, balding, male) Grinch looking front desk staff member, Do you have a second restroom.? The one over there is closed. His reply (with attitude) 'second hallway. ' I looked… I see 1 hallway. So, there I go. Then he yells, 'right there. You passed it. ' it's was in front of the 'Menger bar'. Thinking, you could have just said, down the hall to you left. (Okay, guy. Remember one rule in the hotel business. "Always treat the people with kindness. " If not, you get me writing a BAD review about YOU. (Note: if you see him. Look for someone else. His not a peoples person) /

Excellent hotel. Comfortable rooms. Nice pool. Small restaurant but with very good food and services. To the side of the Poplar and the Riverwalk. Very close to the Convention center.

The history in San Antonio is rich and I don't think my experience would have been complete if not for my stay and the Menger Hotel. I had the privilege of staying in the original part of the hotel. Yes, the floors creaked, yes it was dated, BUT I would expect that from any place that has been around since the 1800's. Staff was friendly and greeted me whenever we crossed paths. The rooms were cleaned up nice, and the interior looks beautifully. I especially love the swing and big band music that played throughout the lobby. It is also walking distance to everything worth seeing downtown and across the street from The Alamo. I recommend anyone visiting to stay at this hotel. This place is lovely.

It's nice, but the air system is antiquated and they can only heat or cool the building, you can't choose. They don't turn on the heat until it's 45 or colder outside. They gave us extra blankets, but when the room is in the low 60s and you get out of the shower, blankets don't help much. Lots of shivering. Won't be back.

A lovely historic hotel close to the Alamo and in a central position. Breakfast and dinner were excellent quality. The bonus for us was it was Halloween Saturday so much going on in the hotel it made the stay even better.

The Colonial Dining Room lunch buffet is the best kept secret in town. Excellent food, excellent service. Free valet parking, validate ticket at the restaurant. We celebrate all special occasions there.

Everything was fabulous. I just wish it had a refrigerator in the room. Food was fabulous. Historic charm. Love the outdoor courtyard with rocking chairs.

Clean hotel, courteous staff, and fantastic decor. Within a walk of anywhere and carriage rides if you want then. Ripley's Believe it or Not is across the road and plenty of things to do. Second time coming here and will visit again in the next few years. I removed a star because I feel staff or security needs to clean up the beggars. I'm no city boy but I'm also no stranger to the city. The amount of beggars is ridiculous here. I lost count of how many times I was asked for change yet job signs are right in front of them. One beggar was right outside the antique and jewellery store at the Menger.

Beautiful hotel, it looks like a museum and it sure represents history. Very attentive staff and rooms were very nice decorated, clean and neat. The gym is small (3 treadmills, 2 elliptical, 1 bicycle, and dumbbells) but a basic workout can be done. Pool area is very nice. Good location, you can walk to anyplace in downtown area.

Wonderful views inside and in the garden areas. Customer Service was top notch, thanks to employees such as, but not limited to, Justin at the Check-In counter and Sonia in the restaurant. An elevator was under repair while there, but it wasn't a bad inconvenience. The bar was good too. I would definitely stay here again and will recommend to others.

I loved this hotel. I don't think you could have found a more attentive staff around. While the room was a bit small, it was beautifully furnished and I couldn't complain as we were staying in the "historic" part of the hotel. The hotel was beautiful to look at in all aspects; the lobby was spacious, the garden was natural and inviting, and the pool looked awesome and refreshing. Thanks guys.

I loved that this close to the Mall. The service was excellent. Everything was clean and organized.

The hotel was very clean. The only problem that I encountered was how to get there. This very hidden the main entrance.

This hotel is a historic hotel with great architect and antique décor. The staff are friendly and it is a well kept clean hotel. It has a lot of history and if you enjoy the supernatural this hotel has many ghost stories. If you like history there are many stories that the staff are happy to share about historic figures who had been guests. I would highly recommend it.

Same little bar inside the restaurant. Hotel bar prices and limited selection. Cool historical pictures to look at on the wall but due to the small spaces you can't really walk around and see it all without getting in other guests space.

It's old, which can be good and bad. The good is just because it's beautiful and nice to look at. The bad is that it's not quite up to modern standards in a few ways. The a/c is very noisy and squeaky in some rooms, the drains in the showers perform poorly, and, worst of all, the walls are paper thin. You will hear your neighbors. However, this is more than made up for by the location and the competent, helpful, and friendly staff. Our first night, the people next door to us were super loud, but in the morning a staff member (Barbara) went far out of her way to help us transfer into a better room and continued helping us during our trip. The catering staff is attentive and thorough both in their provision and in cleaning up after events and meetings. As far as location, this hotel is in the perfect place — walking distance to anything downtown and on the River Walk.

The Menger Hotel is a hotel that was originally built in the early 1800s. It has since withstood the test of time with the older part of the hotel still in use today with rooms that continue to be occupied by passing tourists. A not so recent but newly renovated and modern part was added to the hotel many years after it had been built. The rooms although different by size and look reveal a certain authenticity that is particularly made to look as it did in western times. Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt is said to have visited The Menger Bar with his "Rough Riders" a cavalry group he created back in the early days to fight off opposing enemies of the day. The Menger Hotel remains a distinguished and completely intact establishment with ghost tours that add the excitement of the history of celebrity deaths which whose spirits still roam the hallways and rooms of the hotel. The quality of service at the hotel is unique and professional, room service is quick and checkin and out is easy. A stay at the Menger Hotel is a night of unforgettable joy to indulge in the ancient luxury that was once home to Oscar Wilde himself.

What a fun historic hotel. I had a room in the oldest portion with a fireplace. Sadly, it was not haunted. The pool was refreshing. Because the hotel was expanded over the years there are rooms constructed in almost every decade. The location is great as it over looks the Alamo and is steps from River Walk.

BAR The Menger bar is a cool (temperature and ambiance), dark cavern of carved wood structures, furniture and a famous wooden long bar. The place oozes with history of long gone but not forgotten prominent figures and events. A Friday midday visit found the place scantly populated with a couple of tourist families enjoying drinks at tables below the balcony seating. Interesting banter with the bar tender and well made drinks of Mexican martini and whiskey sour. We had also made the trip here to sample the Clinton made famous mango ice cream. Cool, light and fruity, the ice cream was good but not as good as I had built it up in my mind. Isn't that always the way?!

Attended an award ceremony yesterday. The ceremony originally was supposed to be held at the Alamo. Due to the weather, the ceremony was moved to the Menger Hotel. The staff at the Menger was polite and acommodating to all those that attended the ceremony. They were able to ready the conference room quickly.

Kirstie was great! All staff wew polite and beyond helpful. Check out the mango icecream and be sure to book your tours with her in the hotel. Good deals. Great location.

The service was great and the facilities have a very unique character. The only caveat was that sonething in the room triggered my wife's allergies during the night.

This review is of the Colonial Room only. Service is fine but the food is not what is used to be. Still a fine place to eat when near the Riverwalk. A lot of those places are junk, the food terrible. The Colonial Room is a throwback. Do try the mango ice cream. Excellent. For these prices I recommend Las Canarias at La Mansion where the food is MUCH better.

Had a great time! Traveling for our anniversary and remembered having lunch at the Menger last time we were in SA. Decided to spend the night. Great rate off of Kayak ($60 off normal rate). Room was comfortable, very nice for a historic hotel. Had lunch again. The bread pudding with rum sauce is not to be missed! Beautiful decor. Very nice pool and workout room. Staff was friendly and helpful. There is a charge for valet parking, but it was worth it to know the car was safe, plus it includes in and out privileges. Only negative is no fridge in room. But that is definitely not a deal breaker for us. Also a quick plug for Josephine Street steakhouse where we had dinner. Great atmosphere and good food at a reasonable price.

They had the air conditioning off and very hot. The drinks were also super faces. $9 for a glass of wine and $5 for a Budlight.

Very enjoyable hotel. Very clean, well maintained rooms and lobby that help keep the antique feel. The staff are the best when helping us change rooms from one that looked at a wall to overlooking the Alamo. Well visit here again.

My friends and I went to San Antonio to see the river walk and the Alamo. Both were in walking distance. The menger hotel was amazing all the old detail the rooms were very nice. It was a great hotel with history and a story of its own. I enjoyed hearing about the history of the hotel as well as the story's that are tied to it.

I booked my room in September. I booked a room with 2 beds, because a friend and I were attending a convention, and we don't sleep in the same bed. I called the morning of my reservation, and verified that my reservation was good. They didn't tell me renovations were going on, or that no double bed rooms would be available. That evening, I tried to check-in, and that is when I was told. They put a cot in our room. I am 5'4" and the cot was too short for me. It was very uncomfortable. I barely slept that night. The air condition was barely able to keep up, and only got to a comfortable temperature around midnight. The staff said something about the unit being old, and can only send cold or hot to the room. The bathroom door would not close. We could not close the bathroom door to shower or use it. The shower head was the kind you would find in old dorm showers. It was the worst shower head I've seen in any commercial housing shower. The reason I'm giving this hotel 2 starts instead of one, is how the staff treated us the second day. It was much better. They moved us, and our bags to another room. We were attending a convention, so they moved our bags for us. The new room had 2 beds and it felt like a regular hotel room. The bathroom door closed at least. It felt like a $100 per night hotel, not a $150 per night. The shower head was the same, but we did have 2 beds. The sheets were clean. I will never stay in this hotel again.

Had the brunch at the Menger hotel restaurant. We enjoyed it so much on New year's day. Great choices of food and the bread pudding was one of the best we've had. Enjoyed our stroll thru the hotel and courtyard after. I'm ready to go back.

The hotel is very beautiful, with several historical details and located a minutes from many attractions. The staff is very attentive.

We did a retirement ceremony here. Staff was very accommodating and provided us an extra room to change upon request last minute. The buffet afterwards was an unexpected delight. This included a fully stocked pasta bar, salad bar, and two main entrées; my favorite being the chicken wrapped prosciutto with capers. A very excellent experience, would recommend for any future conference.

The chef created a delicious dish! One of the best fish dishes I've had thus far. Our waiter, Abraham, was fantastic. He was engaging, professional, friendly, and just a plain joy. To top it all off there was an amazing classical/Spanish guitar playing thrumming beautifully through the night. We had planned to walk down the Riverwalk (as we had never been and that's all we hear people talking about) but the Menger was exactly what we needed. We stayed through the night — and our waiter didn't mind one bit. This establishment was hospitality at it's finest. We will be coming back to San Antonio and next time we will be staying at the Menger!

Worst hotel I have ever stayed at! I'm surprised it has any positive reviews. Sure it's historic. It's fancy in the lobby and main areas but the rooms are a cruel joke. It's like management doesn't train anyone to properly clean and maintain the hotel. My room was run down and dirty. For the price you would expect something clean at the very least. We went to the restaurant and got turned away. They told us they couldn't serve us because they had to do ghost tours and we should order from the bar. We went to the bar and ordered our food, which was decent. The bar and bartender are the only good thing about the hotel. After we ate we headed back up to our room. We got stopped and interrogated by a staff member about where we were going and what we were doing. When I said we were staying at the hotel and going to our room he looked shocked. It was so rude and embarrassing. I guess management also doesn't train their employees on common decency. Customer service is severely lacking here. I guess when you can hide behind your "historic and haunted" gimmick who needs to treat people with respect, right?

For the price and location it will compensate for the room size. If you're a couple it's perfect, the pool, the hot tub are great to relax in. Room is clean, nicely and not overly decorated. If you have the valet service it is added into your total price to save a few dollars. Once you're here everything is within a short distance, the menger has an entry that leads right into the mall. Across the street the double deck bus tours are easily accessible, also to include the horse drawn carts. Definately a great stay for the price, great customer service, great location and it has made my trip excellent.

I love going to this bar right across from the Alamo. This was one of Roosevelts' favorite watering holes. The bartenders are some of the best in town and it is interesting talking with all the tourists.

I have beens saying for year, that I want to stay at the Menger Hotel! I have stayed at other historic hotels in the area, such as the St. Anthony Hotel. We got a room with a lovely view of the brick wall of the building next to us. Well, all was good until check out. We called for a luggage cart. It never came. 20 minutes later we went downstairs to get one. I ended up with a tug or war contest with the bellboy or whoever the he was near the valet station. He insisted of his staff sending it up, and I insisted on taking it. Well after arguing with him, I went to find a manager. I'm not one for making a scene, but this was insane. Needless to say, I will never stay here again. I have always wanted to stay at the historic Menger Hotel, and that experience ruined it. Plus, there was nothing really special about the place. Everything is unreasonable expensive, including parking and meals at their restaurant. Look elsewhere.

For the price paid the room was so dirty, extremely small, manager was very condescending. The area outside of the rooms such as the lobby, patio, pool etc were very nicely decorated and it is located in a very good place but it didn't make up for being in a dirty small room.

This place is terrible. The beds are the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on. The ac whistles and won't keep the room cool enough. Bathrooms are small and dirty. Walls are paper thin and I can hear people flush the toilet all nite. I complained at the front desk and the guy told me we were in the side of the hotel that had new beds. He also said they could not discount any money. Trust me it's not worth the money.

I love this hotel and stay there every time in San Antonio. It is a cool historic hotel. I sell old homes in Houston Heights though so I am inclined to love homes and buildings that have survived so long and have so much history. Does it have giant rooms? No, but I use the room to sleep in, not party. Does it have great staff? Yes and they love their jobs and the hotel. Step out the door and walk anywhere. Come back and have a drink in the bar. I eat breakfast there, but there are too many restaurants on the Riverwalk to stay in the hotel. Step back in time and enjoy it.

First night in the hotel, my room got flooded. The water was basically streaming off the bathroom ceiling, the floor had a puddle and the carpet got soaking wet. I was moved to another room, it was bigger and had a patio, but had a problem with the outlets. A table lamp had an uninsulated cord and its outlet did not work. I asked the maintenance to replace the lamp but instead they brought me an extension cord and suggested that I connect to another outlet. The cord looked sketchy and every time I connected my laptop it made weird noises but luckily it did not kill me. :) I stayed in this hotel for a week and on one day, the room was not made. After I called them in the evening, they told me they will fix it but they did not. The only good thing about this hotel was its location, in downtown and close to everything; and also the history encompassing it. I stayed in far better hotels for way less money. Would not stay in Menger again.

The only good thing about this hotel is the location: it is just few meters from The Alamo l. The staff is rude, the breakfast is not included, Wi-Fi didn't work. It was cold in San Antonio and the heater was not working. I would never ever stay in this hotel again.

If you're staying on the Riverwalk, this is the hotel to stay at. Make no mistake about it, this is an old hotel. That is what adds to the charm. It is centrally located making it minutes walk to everything. Relaxing in the pool at the courtyard is the best way to end the day.

It took 20 minutes to get my truck parked. The line was so slow and that was just a block. Then when we got our room they told us the elevator was down, so we walked and walked getting lost. I asked for directions and instead of walking us there they just pointed out. So we walked some more, no one helped with our luggage. The wait for some dinner was almost an hour, the room is small, the bed a bit hard, not enough out let's to charge my cell, only one side night stand. The coffee maker didn't work, the restroom was so small and the room had an old smell. We payed $200.00 + so to my opinion we over paid. Oh and our windows looked out some building. I felt like we where in jail lol. Oh and not enough sugar we had a very un pleasant stay. Never again.

Friendly staff, lobby and grounds well maintained but the rooms are in terrible condition. Horrible mattress, small room and bathroom, furniture looks like it's been there for years, carpet dirty and worn, walls in need of a paint job. My room had a street lamp just outside and the drapes did not adequately stop the light from entering the room (had to use the chairs to keep drapes pressed against the windows). Not enough outlets to power electricals. They are renovating but hadn't gotten to this side yet. If I had known there were major hotel brands nearby I would have stayed there.

Three couples from the upper Midwest visited for three days over thanksgiving. Loved the accommodations. Staff was beyond awesome and so very pleasant to deal with. Loved the Thanksgiving dinner and recommend it to anyone. Great place to stay close to the Riverwalk, the Alamo, and the downtown area of San Antonio.

Old hotel building and lobby are beautiful. Rooms are so so: thin walls, old bathroom, paint/carpet could be redone. Receptionist not particularly friendly. Great Wi-Fi.

Beautiful hotel with some remarkable history. Great prices and friendly staff. If you go and have any interest in US history, find time to make your way to the bar for a drink.

I pre-purchased a Groupon for this hotel, it was the worst hotel my bf and I have ever visited! The room was so small, I was scared I would hit the bed when I open the door. It was in the middle of summer, the AC didnt work, all the air we got was from a really old ceiling fan that look like it about to fall off. I tripped on my way to the bathroom because of the ridiculous step that was there, I dont understand why it would be there except to trip people over. Oh and no fridge people! Of course I called and request a room exchange, the front desk was very nice and within 10 minutes I was changed to another room. This room was twice as big which made me wonder, is it just because I pre-purchased a Groupon that's why I was stuck in a tiny, dysfunctional room? I have no idea. Even when the new room was better then the old one, it still fell short of our expectations. We visited SA earlier this july and stayed at home2 suites, let me tell you this is heaven compare to Menger hell. The price point is around the same (about $20 more expensive) but I got clean, new, fully function, big room with a full kitchen and full sized fridge. Right after I heard about the ghost tour happens at night, my boyfriend and I immediately abandon the pre-paid room and checked into home2 suites. Of course we did not get any refund nor did we even try to.

The accommodations were less than expected even considering it's a historic hotel. The bathroom was clean but did't have even 1 towel bar/rack. Our room must have been in the older less renovated part of the building; there was a large stain in the carpet; maybe oil/grease stain. The Sunday brunch helped make up for the less negative part of the hotel. Their valet parking was extremely overpriced and there was quite a await to get your car. Some of the guest said they called for their car but had been waiting for an hour. Probably will not stay there again but would go back for the Sunday brunch.
