Front desk staff was very polite and helpful. Rooms and lobby area kept clean, updated and well maintained. Some areas, like the furniture, has started to show wear, scratches and nicks, but overall this hotel is a great value. Underground valet parking available for $30 a night with in and out privileges. We appreciated the lemon ice water and coffee available in the lobby. Takes around 10 minutes to walk to the beach and is within walking distance of many shops and restaurants.

I am truly sorry that I didn’t take any pictures for this hotel while I was there. This little hotel was perfect. We were only there for one night but will absolutely stay again. We had a room with 2 queen beds and there was still a lot of room. Everything looked new and updated. The staff were beyond awesome and accommodating. They had quick answers to all of our questions. So close to everything that we never took our car out of the hotel garage. There is a price to park your car but that is to be expected. Definitely a 5 form my family.

Looking back on our trip to Hawaii… this was our favorite of all the hotels we stayed. The staff was super friendly, professional and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable and had a great city view. Steps from the hotel front door is fantastic shopping, parks, food. We walked only couple blocks to beautiful public beach> The staff and Miles (manager in in Lobby) was a warm gracious and nicest greeter imaginable. We've traveled alot and really appreciate this hotel!

Very friendly, Concierge are very nice. The pool is small and too cool to get in. The rooms are a little outdated but comfortable, the bathroom is super tiny bout the size of a closet with no ventilation nice upgraded sink. Everything is so close to anywhere you want to go. Nice breakfast all you can eat but no lounge bar, no dinner just breakfast. Otherwise, nice place.

Hotel is under renovation. You get what you pay for. $20 Amenities is added on top of the room charge plus parking is additional $29 + tax. 20 amenities is used toward a 20 dollar breakfast buffet. It is use it or lose it. Overall is decent.

I had a great and wonderful experience at the Waikiki Gateway Hotel with my daughters teachers and classmates. Accomadations were excellent and top notch. My daughter and I so love the morning breakfast buffet. All in all everything was EXCELLENT. I would so recommend this hotel to family and friends.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to friends or family. It's not bad it's just not good. The reception area is really nice and the guest services are fine. The room I had was small and old feeling. There was also an odd amount of moisture in the air…even for humid Oahu. And the balcony felt dirty. Also 30$+tip valet parking in addition to an extra 20$ for resort fees is just grubby. Won't be staying again.

We stayed at the Gateway Hotel for eleven nights. It's a hotel packed with potential but doesn't quite get things right. The rates are generally quite low for Waikiki and it's location is relatively good. The staff are pleasant and most areas of the hotel are clean. Attention to some things are absent however; there wasn't a chair nor table in our room and only a single desk in the foyer (for the whole hotel) ; if you need to sit at a desk to work then avoid this hotel. For most of our stay the washing machine was broken. Also the traffic noise is very load at night and you can hear every step people in the room above take. This is a budget hotel but just a few improvements could make it a much better hotel.

We previously stayed at the Waikiki Gateway in 2014 and when we planned this trip there was no hesitation in coming back. The staff was helpful in planning our stay during phone conversations. Upon arrival Kai delivered a nice welcome back gift of candy from the management. Every staff member at the Front Desk, Breakfast, Housekeeping and more is cheerful always saying Aloha and helping with any question. I wounded highly recommend this hotel and its staff for any friends and for future stays.

Rooms and "public spaces" seem to have been partially renovated but the hotel is old and very poorly soundproofed. Make sure to bring earplugs. The bathroom in our room was old and didn't see all that clean… For the price we paid though, I can't really complain…

Over all great, but odd areas that are less attractive. The staff is very friendly. The breakfast buffet is amazing. The view is lovely. The location is very good. On the other hand: There is no dresser in the room so we need to live out of suitcases. There is no place in the bathroom to hand a damp towel. There's a mini refrigerator and a coffee maker but no microwave. The climate control is very odd and not very responsive, it seems that there are two temperatures, too cold and too warm. Over all it is a nice experience but not nearly perfect.

Super friendly and welcoming staff. Room is convenient. Floor and bath/shower shows aging. Comfortable bed and two sorts off pillows. Nice TV. Big fridge in the room, which comes in handy when purchasing groceries.

Great price for a nice hotel in Waikiki! Stay was super friendly. Let us check in early. Offered us free bikes to ride around. Upgraded our room at no additional charge. Fantastic breakfast! Would stay here again for our next visit!

Good hotel not too far from Waikiki Beach, clean and comfortable rooms; Breakfast is better to have it included as if purchased after costs $15 apiece.

Just spend a little extra and stay anywhere else. 0/5 -Broken toilet -Buffet breakfast is not included — $20 a day even though it's advertised as free. Even then it's not worth $20 — 3 different fruits, bagels and filter coffee — What a joke. -You have to pay at check in, not check out like every other hotel -The pool is hideous. -Everyday I had to get a new door key because it wouldn't let me in -By day 8, house keeping still hadn't changed the sheets, so I pulled the sheets completely off and put them by the door. I could go on and on but this is using up my lunch break, in future we will be going back to the Royal Hawaiian.

Booked this hotel 3 nights $112/night with breakfast for 2, but I had asked to get a different room because there was an odor in the room and the ac unit wasn't blowing cold air enough, the room was dated and on the small side. The balcony was in needed of major repairs. The hallway smelled like cigarette smell, I was not happy. The friendly front desk people gladly change us to a different room. It was much better, a little more updated in the bathroom too. No smell and the ac unit blew cold cold air. Short walking distant to Kalakaua ave. Alot of shops and eaterys in the heart of Kalakaua ave.

The front desk staff, valet and room service are very attentive and kind. Fantastic customer service. Clean rooms.

Staying at this hotel today is a bit disappointing compared with the expected difference. Bathroom shower equipment old, valve switch like antique, eye-opening. Toilet flush is weak, water is too high, deep fear overflow. After maintenance personnel repair, smooth removal. I hope everything goes well.

Extremely disappointing breakfast buffet. Long line. No apparent air conditioning. Only some fruit and bread for the buffet. They used to have ham or bacon but now there is no meat on the buffet. Also, they ran out of clean plates and started handing out paper plates. At least they get credit for creativity. The check-in service was a bit Surly. And they had trouble running a credit card. I am definitely checking this place off of my list of places to eat in or near Waikiki.

Place is nice. The Terrance house is amazing. Great view, large balcony. I loved it! Definitely worth it. And it's affordable.

Lobby looks nice but rooms are old looking. There was a construction in the floor we were staying and some noise. Also nothing interesting in the view. We were in the north east corner room and both views were nothing interesting. I guess the other two sides were the good view ones.

The bathroom is very small, the room was hot and the air conditioner was on the floor next to the sliding door with No wall controller. We had a balcony facing construction, it was noisy starting at 5am. The breakfast was an additional $12.95 per person, it was not worth the price. The pool on the fourth floor was the size of a large board room table and it was filthy. When we arrived in Wakiki I circled the hotel for three hours trying to find out where it was, I finally found parking across the street for $20 a night. When I was finally able to check in I found out that parking at the hotel was $29.95 : (. I travelled on a budget and this hotel made me feel lower class.

Darn, we finally booked a different hotel half a block away from this one. Then when we came to Waikiki we tried the breakfast buffet here and loved it for the choice of food and quality. Staff is kind. Buffet price is worth it.

I wouldn't call this modern 20 years ago. Or maybe only the deceivingly renovated lobby. Dated and under poor maintenance, all the floors I visited seemed to be falling apart. The bathroom is horrendous and warns guests that the hotel is not liable for water damage which can be caused by their own poorly designed bathroom which lacks drainage. The smell in the entire floor reaches your stomach. Unexpected fee for Wi-Fi usage. A few plus points: bed, location and staff.

It was good. We didn't spend a whole lot of time actually in the hotel, but the staff was friendly and the rooms were clean.

Very dated and musty, I was glad that we were only here for one night. The rooms are stinky, but ultimately got a good night's rest. Friendly staff, but not particularly good value. $10 surcharge for Wi-Fi was a nasty surprise. Breakfast buffet is decent, for $12.

It's not a fancy hotel, and everything is a little old and musty, but with that in mind it's certainly not bad! The staff is fun and friendly, everything works, there are big TVs in every room (we were a party with two rooms on the fifth floor) and the beds were comfy. The carpet smelled a bit musty and the shower head sprayed a cheap narrow stream, but we didn't mind. The location is good, with about a ten minute walk to the beach and less to the restaurants and shops. We booked it as a one night stop before heading to a nicer apartment, but I don't regret it.

You get what you pay for… almost. First off, the staff was actually helpful and friendly, I would give them 4 stars. Second, the room — Deluxe city view (? ) we got to watch construction on a new building a block over, and they watched us back. — WHAT is that smell! Uhg — balcony had water dripping from the above unit A/C… we couldn't use it without getting rained on from the moldy stains above us. — did I mention the smell? Deodorant over an old musty damp smell. The entire 10th floor. — one elevator was out the entire time — the garage elevator was out as well… so up and down outside stairs then garage ramp with luggage, no rain so it wasn't THAT bad, but very inconvenient. — no safe in the room, it was a listed amenity, so we had to keep valuables locked in a suitcase when we were out — not many electrical outlets, an inconvenience in today's gadget world — tiny lobby, we had to negotiate around tourist groups and bags several times. — ice machine only on one floor (? ) — the in room hair dryer located directly above the sink, it fell in while brushing our teeth twice (no Bueno! ) + free clean 'beach' towels + staff + free bottle water daily + price + located near beaches + located near shopping.

One of the worst places I have stayed at. The bathroom look like they where cheap in the 1970s. I am scared to walk on the floors with out shoes. All the AC units don't work properly. There is duct tape on the curtains. The list goes on forever. When we first pulled up to the hotel, we found out we where going to spend another 250 dollars on parking. Then they charged us an additional 56 dollars for amenities that are included with normal hotels; Such as, Internet, TV, and coffee. If I had known about the additional 300 dollars I would have just picked a different hotel. I wish I would have read the other reviews before booking through a third party website where the rental car was included. All of them are true and they do not care at the front desk.

Booked a trip to Oahu and stayed at this hotel, what a joke. I was staying with 3 friends and asked for 4 single beds. Was not told it was $20 more a day on top of what I paid in my package.

The previous review is absolutely correct — — "Fraudulent" is the perfect word to describe this operation. The first incident occurred during booking (which should have been a red flag, but was naively dismissed as an innocuous oversight) : the website boasted 40% off of the Penthouse Suites with a minimum of 3 nights. That's awesome, but when you click to make the reservation, the website rejects its own (auto-generated) discount code. Cute. So I called in to make the reservation over the phone — — the illegality of the next trespass notwithstanding, I was shocked to learn that the hotel would not honor their own promotion. The reason? "Oh — — that shouldn't be up anymore. " Jumping forward to check-in, I called the morning of to see if the room was available for an early check-in. After a brief hold, I was informed that it was, indeed ready. I checked out from my previous place and came on over. To find that the room was not at all ready. Strike two. The next issue is probably minor to most, but we scheduled two movie nights during our four night stay, and since the website clearly states that movies are available to view for purchase in the PH suites, we were excited to veg out and binge watch a few horror films. After several minutes of trying to figure out how to order the films, I called down to the front desk to inquire. "Ohhhh, we don't actually have Pay per View movies or anything. " Ah, well. That's a conversation you should probably be having with your webmaster.

Lobby very nice, Elevator very nice, then the doors open to a funky smell. Our room was very dated, very shabby. Holes in curtains. Seriously, this place is a dump! Bathroom had missing shower curtain, stained and peeling tub, water damage on ceiling, walls and floor. Take my advice, pay a bit more and get a "clean" room elsewhere. Avoid this place.

Worst hotel ever. They lie about everything and make up times or appointments if they don't know. I will never stay here and if you want a ruined vacation with food poisoning then this place is for you. ZERO stars.

Worst hotel I ever stayed. Furniture falling apart. Bathroom was in need of major work. Could hear toilets flushing and showers running as if it was in your room. Prepaid so could not get a refund. Staff were not friendly or helpful. Could have stayed at a high end hotel for cheaper. This is a slum.

This hotel is fraudulent! do not stay here, not worth it! We stayed four nights, they charged us for 10 days and then another 3! I've had to talk to three supervisors and the manager david who was purposefully and illegally withholding information from us. As nice and patient as I was throughout the 8-10 hour ordeal, david and his indifferent staff made it clear they have the money and do not care about customer service. This could have been easily and amicably solved with just a morsel of compassion but instead they left us no option but to go to the credit card company and/or civil court! This is not how I planned to spend my vacation. The ONLY good thing about this motel-esque establishment is the location. Paint, moldings, and bathroom have all seen better days even with the recent "remodeling".

Going in my expectations were not all that high. I was just looking for a decent, clean and affordable place that I could spend a few days at in heart of Waikiki. Very clean hotel room. This is probably most important to me when staying at cheaper end hotels, Met this standard 10/10! Good enough hotel that you wouldn't feel embarrassed if your friends staying at fancy $500+/night came over for a bit, but would hardly book my wedding for this hotel. On day of check-in I was told to come back at 3pm when my room was ready and they could check me in. Unfortunately room wasn't ready at 3pm, but said they would upgrade me for free (with a little talking I got the free upgrade for other 3 days). Held my luggage for me between when I showed up at 11am and when I got to my room, had a locked room only accessed by the 2 security guards and I felt it was safe enough to leave my computer in my bag in that room (saying a lot). I stayed in 1401 (2 queens and ocean view), not sure if it is the best of the "Deluxe" rooms or different category, but I'd recommend this room. Certainly "deluxe" suites are worth paying for over marginally cheaper standard suites (for me was $4 difference/night). I saw standard suite when I checked in, staff was cooperative with my request to view the difference of the suite levels. Window covers of suite a little torn, but there are much worse things at other hotels to complain about! 1401 had 2 balconies, one with very nice ocean view!

We brought the family and had a great stay. All the staff were very courteous, with free water bottles and beach towels upon request. Wifi was also included as well. Competitively priced and located close to everything, definitely worth a look.

I had a great time at the Waikiki Gateway. A clean room and great customer service! Upon checking-in I asked for early check-in and the young lady at the front desk said ok that's not a problem. When I called down to the front desk and asked for a taxi or a recommendation for a restaurant all I heard was, " ok we can help you with that Miss Bennett". Everyone was just so friendly here even the valet and housekeeping, they have complimentary valet here which is 'Awesome' because parking in Waikiki is a you-know-what!. But before coming here I didn't know what to expect because of some of the bad reviews but I must say my experience was completely stress free. I would recommend the Waikiki Gateway to any of my friends looking for an affordable hotel.

WORST HOTEL EVER! DO NOT BOOK! Awful guest service. Duct taped curtains, moldy water spots on the ceiling, bunr marks on the floor. Just NASTY! I planned my wedding around this hotel and I almost cried when I got there! We asked for a different room and were told NO — that was actually an UPGRADED room! I hate to see what the non-upgraded rooms look like! We left to find a more expensive hotel but it was worth every penny! THIS HOTEL WAS ABSOLUTELY AWEFUL! Wouldn't let my dog stay there! Do not listen to the 3 and 4 star ratings (like I mistakenly did). They have to be from people that work there or live in dirt houses.

I was very disappointed with our stay at the hotel. When I asked for the password for Wifi I was told that I would have to pay $10 per day even though the site we booked the hotel had said free Wifi. After some discussion they gave me free Wifi. My second complaint is the coffee pot was not cleaned for 3 days and the filter was not removed. My third complaint is the glasses were never cleaned or replaced. Fourth complaint free on demand movies were not available (site temporary unavailable). After phones to front desk maintanace was sent up but problem was never fixed. Was told site was down. Have tried to get the movies again but the same message appeared apparently site was never fixed. I certainly will never stay here again and would not recommend this hotel.

Average stay at best. Wifi was not free, but after a discussion was given to us at no cost. Bathroom was minimally cleaned each day. Fresh drinking glasses not provided each day — same glass left in same place for 4 days. Coffee pot not rinsed or cleaned from day to day. Free on demand movies was not working. Numerous phonecalls and a half hearted attempt by maintenance and the problem was never fixed. No microwave available in the whole hotel. While conveniently placed in Waikiki, if you are looking for a place to stay for an extended period (eg more than 3 days) — this is not the hotel for you.
