The hotel was very high end and has unique history with charm. It was highly recommended while traveling with someone from NYC, which gives it even more credibility given the number of hotel options. The service is great from front desk, to dining, bar, and housekeeping.

Small but very lovely and comfortable room. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. There is a coziness about the lobby in which makes it easy to chat with strangers and hang out.

Terrible, terrible, Terrible service! I complained to the manager after I sat with empty glasses and dirty dishes for 15 minutes. She couldn’t care less. This place has gone downhill. After years of coming here, I will NEVER come here again. HORRIBLE experience!

It is like an era back in time where bell boys and service were a priority. Food is delicious and waitstaff are accommodating and happy to ensure your meal is to your satisfaction.

Unique and quiet elegance in the middle of bustling Manhattan. You walk in and you feel as if you are miles away. We were guests for 4 nights (our second stay here). The staff treats you wonderfully and they meet your every need. Our room was extremely comfortable. The amenities are first class. The food was delicious. Highly recommend this hotel. Look forward to returning.

The hotel was ok. Doormen are awesome. Mattress is awful and maybe from 1920 when they opened. Went to have a nice breakfast before work and sat there for over 20 mins and no coffee or order taken. If your going to charge $45 for breakfast the service better be amazing. Went to checkout and no concessions given for the horrible service. Won’t be staying here again. So many other great NYC Hotels.

A hotel with character and a soul. Not many around these days. Staff were exceptional. Excellent food was evidence of confident and deft hands in the kitchen. Centrally located in Manhattan. Go and enjoy!

Pretty, old hotel right between times square and rock center. Comfortable rooms, but small, particularly the bathrooms. Very good breakfast in the lobby restaurant.

The Algonquin is a hotel with deep history. 12 stories tall the rooms are pretty much a bed and a shower but are still lovely and cozy. There is a resort fee for all rooms but you do get some food and laundry credit if you want it. The hotel is located in the heart of New York so everything is close. Make sure to say hi to the hotel's mascot cat.

The missus and I are fans of this great hotel. I'm also a writer so it is especially fun for me to imagine Dorothy Parker holding court with all of the other luminaries at the famous "round table. " The rooms are always spotless and well appointed. We also love the location in midtown that puts us within walking distance of most of what we go to NYC for, the shows on Broadway. Love this place and we'll always come back to the Gonk.

Loved our stay. Received an upgrade into a wonderful room, which was quite a pleasant surprise. Superior service all around. Great ambiance in the blue bar. 5 star service and some really unique charm.

I really like this place. The rooms size is not what I would call generous, by any means. However, there's something about the history of the place that adds to the overall experience. Make sure that when anyone knocks on your room door you reply with, "what fresh hell is this?!? ". And sit for at least one cocktail at the Blue Bar, just so that you can feel like part of the legacy.

I love the Gonk for its charm, history, location in Times Square. The rooms are small but renovated and comfy with nicely redone baths. The service is excellent from front door to maintenance. Even the hotel cat will swing by to greet you upon arrival or departure some days. And if perchance you’re a writer, sit at the table in the restaurant where some of the greats gathered regularly and let their spirits inspire you. Or just enjoy the food — it’s very good for hotel fare!

I loved the hotel. It was clean and quite charming. My room was nicely appointed, and the renovated bathroom was a nice surprise. I ate twice in the dining room, both breakfast, and the menu selections were great, the prices were reasonable for a hotel of this caliber. The location was terrific for me. I would absolutely stay here again.

I loved the history and uniqueness of this hotel. I loved that a cat named Hamlet hangs out in the lobby. The cat also sent a gift to my room, which was unexpected. My room was well-decorated and delightful. My only criticism is that I experienced very loud construction noise all night during my stay in January 2018. It wasn’t really the hotel’s fault, because the construction was not in the hotel. I would just recommend that you ask someone at check-in which rooms are furthest from the construction noise.

The bed was very comfortable and the location was right in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Times Square. I didn't quite feel like the room and the experience was worth the price. Our window went to the wall of the next building and the room and bathroom were very small. The cost would have taken me much further even in South Beach, Miami where a stay at the W (with their huge rooms and coastal views) would have been less expensive. Still, it was nice to experience even if we wouldn't do it again.

Historic NYC hotel. I stopped by for a drink after work and before a show. It’s a relaxing atmosphere and the staff was attentive. The drinks were good but pricy. They used to have a resident cat. Not sure if the cat is still around. I know the city gave them a hard time about a cat in the lobby. I didn’t see a cat on my visit but did on previous visits. I didn’t go to see a cat but I always thought it added to the historic and relaxing atmosphere of the lobby. If you are in the neighborhood and have time to kill. Stop in for a drink. Next time I will have to stay at the hotel and add to my review.

The hotel is small and the rooms are also… But they are nice father decoration, very clean. And the Cat The hotel mascot is super cute and friendly.

Beautiful lobby that was relaxing to sit in and have a drink after a long day, with family who were staying at the hotel. Service was mediocre and no standard bar snack (like pretzels or nuts) at the tables. Drink selection was fine and we enjoyed ourselves.

I love this hotel. It has that quintessential old New York feel. Room have been updated and bed is very comfortable. Like anywhere in Times Square area, the rooms themselves are quite small — so you must expect that. The breakfast is fabulous and staff very friendly. They even have a cat that hangs out in the lobby.

Staff is out of this world friendly and helpful. Stayed in a suite and it was a nice room for NYC. Big with some modern updates. Only downside is lacking on plugs throughout the suite, most are clustered together in one spot.

Lovely quaint hotel with old NYC charm, beautiful lobby, exceptional service, the Bell men are very kind, thorough and very personable. Not to mention the adorable resident cat who is welcoming as well! He is in one area so no worries if you have any allergies. Parking is right across the street and not expensive. If driving in from the Lincoln tunnel its really easy! Driving was easier and cheaper than taking a car or train for myself living about 45mins away. Strongly recommend the Algonquin Hotel!

The decor is elegant yet comfortable and the perfect distance away from Times Square — far enough away to be a bit quieter, but a short walk to anything you may want to see or do for a quick weekend (Broadway shows, shopping, subway, etc. ). The history of the building is really neat as well and there's quotes on the doors from many famous artists and cartoonists from the New Yorker. And if you're lucky, the resident cat, Matilda, may come out to play with you…

I love it here. It is so cozy and historic. I have been coming back for the last ten years for my birthday weekend. The staff is wonderful. The rooms are a tad small but don't spend time in your room, enjoy the wonderful lobby! And if you are lucky you can see the resident cat!

Honestly the cat came down once in the two days that I was there and when I asked the front desk ladies any questions about him they didn’t seem friendly or even like they wanted to talk to me. The room was cute and tiny but there’s no room service or anything. It’s a hotel in the middle of Times Square, you’d think they’d have room service. The bar was fantastic though, I’m not even slightly upset that the drinks are a tad pricey because the bartenders made up for the ladies at the desk… also the bellhop was a pleasure and incredibly helpful! I honestly regret staying there. The cat is hyped up and made to be a bigger deal than he is. I am a cat lover, he was the only reason I stayed at the hotel but he literally was out and about once and for less than 5 minutes, other than that I never really saw him. I was quite disappointed at the end of my stay.

The hotel is beautiful with old charm. The front desk clerk (upon arrival) was unnecessary rude. We reserve early check in and we’re finally given a room after 4pm (normal check in). We are gold members and expect better treatment and service for our loyalty. We were told we were getting an additional upgrade ($40 additional, above the gold member upgrade) and got a queen room instead of the king we booked… Not happy.

A New York icon. Should be on everyone's to do list. Read up on the history to appreciate it fully.

I just stopped for a drink in the lobby restaurant and it is beautiful. Tile floors and design details. Dark and sophisticated.

The Algonquin Hotel is a great place to stay. It's literally on block away from Time Square. Guest service employees were very helpful. On several other reviews people were complaining about the size of the room. The rooms were small but that's the norm in NYC. I would definitely stay here again.

In Marroitt's Autograph Collection, the hotel is an older property with the distinction of being the first in NYC to let single women rent rooms, and the first to introduce electronic keys. It has lots of old world charm: dark wood and brass. The service is very gracious. The bathroom was modern and spacious.

I recently stayed at the Algonquin hotel (August 2017) and had a mediocre experience the check in was fine except the attitude of the gal that was working that day, I misunderstood what she had said regarding the holds on credit cards and I asked her to repeat what she had said, in which she had an attitude which was off putting. Other than that the staff was pleasant not overly friendly except the doormen who were extremely kind and helpful perhaps the front desk needs to take note of,,,,,,, When I got to the room, there was a large puddle near the toilet after a closer inspection there was a leak underneath the toilet I had to call down in which the repairman was prompt and did fix it to a degree (still leaked very slightly) The rooms are small, but are clean and are moderately decorated, descent bed, prime location, perhaps my expectations were higher for this property after hearing nice things about the property I guess it wasn't my week oh well perhaps in the future I may give the Algonquin another go but hopefully some of the issues will be fixed or addressed,,,,,,,,,,,

This hotel truly caters to their clients and will do anything to ensure a comfortable stay. The location is very central to various attractions around the city and it's also unique in that it has a lot of original architectural features. Will gladly stay thee again on our next visit to NYC.

My boyfriend and I came here for our 7th anniversary and it was marvellous! The staff were all friendly and full of character. They were all an absolute pleasure to deal with. Anything we needed (including meeting the now-retired Matilda) they provided. The cost was reasonable for the absolutely gorgeous hotel. The room was impeccably clean and the hotel was maintained beautifully with pride. We only had one complaint — no mini fridge! To be fair the rooms are fairly small, so there may not be a way to store that practically. It would have been nice to have had the mini fridge as we were here for four days, but that was our only complaint. Anyways, this hotel comes highly recommended. If you love charming hotels, clean rooms, a central location, great price, and a great staff this is the ideal hotel!

A friend took me to NYC for my 70th birthday in 2013. We had a delicious dinner at the 'Gonk with wonderful service. The ambiance is perfect, and it felt like stepping back in time to the days of The Vicious Circle, surrounded by the ghosts of the literary and theatrical luminaries of that era. Matilda the rag doll cat was in residence, although after so many decades of Algonquin cats, some crank forced her into a very limited perimeter. The $10, 000 cocktail from the Blue Bar was featured on an episode of the Steve Harvey show, complete with a diamond ring in the drink.

My first impressions of the Algonquin are great. The hotel is located in the heart of uptown Manhattan, but is on a relatively quiet portion of 44th West that is right around the corner from Time Square, 30 Rock, and a number of other attractions. The hotel is very quaint, but we'll appointed and has a great historical feel that starts in the lobby and continues to the rooms. The room was surprisingly large for New York, and was very comfortable. The washroom was a but cramped, but not awful. My one complaint would. Be the $50 per-day held on my card for incidentals should I use them (room service, extras, etc). I understand the intention, but I'd prefer to be charged at the end in the event I incur extra costs.

I was disappointed in the room size, no room service, the elevator quit and trapped people, and no coffee in the rooms. The food was average at best. However, it is centrally located, the staff was pleasant, and it had charm.
I would take the London Hotel every time, but to each their own.

An ideal location and quality rooms cons saw the price a bad soundproofing and a breakfast far from being hearty.

The Algonquin is well located and provides a welcoming atmosphere with old world charm. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The only negative is that the rooms are rather small although they are well appointed. I'd be happy to stay here again.

Gorgeous hotel with amazing staff! I loved that even through renovations, they have kept the old time feel and decor of the place. We arrived too early to check in so they stored our bags in the bell closet and took down my phone number to call me when our room was ready. Everyone was so friendly and helpful, they even stored our bags again after we checked out so we could see some more sights before we left the city. The location was perfect, while I expected some city noise at night, it was very quiet and I had no problems sleeping. The room was a little small, or "cozy", but being in NYC you shouldn't be spending much time in your hotel room aside from sleeping and showering anyhow! I highly recommend The Algonquin Hotel to anyone visiting New York.

The hotel was beautiful and close to so many attractions including time square, the Empire state building and Rockefeller Plaza. The only thing I didn't like was that I got a suite and there was no fridge or microwave. Their reason was because the building is so old, such appliances would blow a fuse. Can't argue with that. Great use of reward points for sure!

Stayed for a Broadway play. Room was small, but well put together. Bathroom was amazing with its marble features and glass shower. The fact that such a historical hotel was so cheap wowed me. The value for the price really makes the Algonquin an excellent deal.

My wife and I meet up for drinks after work. The hotel lobby is thriving with history, tje service was impeccable and the drinks were strong.

The wife and I came here to experience NYC together before our second was born. The entire trip was fantastic and this was the perfect spot to cozy up to each night. Although I was shocked at the size (re: small) of the suite, it had just the right personality. This place will have a permanent spot in our happy memories disk array.

My stay at the Algonquin was very nice. The front desk and the bell service was polite, efficient, and professional, as you would expect from a 4-5 star hotel. The rooms are a little on the small side, but well in keeping with other boutique hotels. Even on the 10th floor, you can hear road noise (police, ambulance, car horns), but the proximity to Times Square is probably mostly the cause of that. Beds are very comfortable and the thermostats in the rooms function properly (the hotel doesn't shut off the air conditioner in the winter, so you can cool your room down if it's too warm).

Nice break from the typical Marriott comfort that I also love. The breakfast is fantastic. Service is great. Rooms are small but well kept. Would come back!

Old world hotel in the heart of NYC a few minutes walk to Times Square. Rooms are small & old, but clean. Great location for sight seeing. The diner next door is a great place to visit for breakfast.

I'm a huge Hotel Impossible fan so of course I had to see his work in action at the Algonquin! We performed an Anthony-like investigation of the room upon arrival and it was the cleanest room I've ever seen. The actual space was very tiny but I expected that. The bed was very comfortable and the toiletries were L'occitane which was so nice! The only compliant is that it took SO long for the water to heat up for the shower — to the point that I thought I turned it on incorrectly. The staff was incredibly nice and even held our luggage until midnight the following day when we checked out! I would absolutely come back!

I can't complain about The Algonquin's location or price per night. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, and while small, the rooms were very comfortable. I didn't spend any time at the bar or restaurant, but everything looked nice and classy. I would definitely stay there again.

Classy and convenient, The Algonquin was exactly what I needed for my recent trip to New York. The restaurant food was delicious and the staff was attentive and friendly. The rooms were modern but tight. Perfect for one person, but two people would have felt cramped. Another great Marriott addition that I would visit again.

You get what you pay for here — location, cleanliness and olde worlde charm. Everything worked well — Wi-Fi, check-in/out, the concierge service and breakfast. Don't expect 5 star, and you will not be disappointed.

I stayed at the Algonquin this past weekend and overall my experience was okay. The hotel is quite beautiful but it is a little cramped. The food was also not that great. Especially their Thanksgiving day meal which was a little over $200 for two people. $200 for a slightly cold and not well seasoned Thanksgiving day meal. What really upset me however was my experience our last day during breakfast. I ordered an omelet and forgot to specify that I wanted egg whites (I have an egg allergy). I quickly asked them if it would be possible to have them make my omelet with egg whites once I realized my mistake. The hostess rushed into the kitchen and told me that they could but 5 minutes later, our waiter brings out my meal which was clearly not egg whites and told me it was too late to change my order because they had already prepared it. Fast forward 10 minutes I hear a guest across from us complain to the same waiter that she didn't like her eggnog french toast. THE SAME WAITER that we had, that told us that I could not change my order, asked the woman if he could get her anything else (fruits, biscuits, etc) since she didn't like her meal. He never asked me that. He also immediately put our bill on the table once he gave us our meal. We ended up having to speak to the manager, and then the chef came out and apologized for the waiters behavior. He said he could have easily made me another omelet but the waiter never told him to. That whole incident left a bad taste in my mouth.

Stayed here in Feb 2014. Brilliant hotel. Little cramped but bed was very comfortable. Food selection wasn't great and slightly overpriced but staff were very plesent although our bathroom smelt of a damp moist stagnent water smell? was very clean tho. Superb location. Coffee shop just over the road made my day. Well morning anyway. Absolute bliss coffee.

We visited the Algonquin hotel for a fancy afternoon cocktail during a one day New York visit with some folks that were there for their first time. When we walked in, the manager on duty, Patrick Sheehan — a Dublin ex-pat — welcomed us and couldn't have made us feel more at home. He was an absolute pro and such a gentleman. He chatted with us and offered us a history of the building which was really fascinating. Before we left he offered to show us the Oak Room where we happened to meet their head chef. We chatted for a while longer before taking our leave, feeling that we had experienced a very rare and special welcome in a historic and iconic hotel. The lobby is impecably kept, its design matching the decor that would have adorned it in the 1950s. We didn't eat or stay over, but the service is excellent and the cocktails were too. By the way, Don Draper hangs out in the Algonquin quite a bit in Mad Men.

A lovely classic hotel with all of the flavor of another era. We visited the dim, atmospheric lobby lounge for pre-Hedwig drinks. We were met with good service and good ambience, though at a price. Beer might be the way to go here. Wines and cocktails start around $17.

Excellent location, a few hundred meters from Times Square. Probably not the most modern hotel in New York, but a lot of charm.
