We were literally there for less then 24 hours. We check in on Friday at noon, they told us because of our credit card we were being upgraded to a suite. But it was being cleaned, they would store our luggage and text us in 1 hour. We went to the restaurant to have lunch, no text, so we did some shopping, by 4:30 we realized they never texted us, we go back to the hotel assuming our room would be ready, it wasn't! They needed another hour. We were going to a party in the hotel at 6, we couldn't wait. They said they could give us a standard room. Really it takes 5 hours to clean a room, they said it was probably very messy. Seriously, I live in a big house and it takes my housekeeper maybe 2 — 3 hours to clean the house. They said we could wait another hour and the upgrade would be available, well we couldn't wait, we spoke to the manager who gave us lip service, she through her co-worker under the bus by saying she should never have told us we were being upgraded. So if you were on check in at noon on Friday, your manager threw you under the bus. We will testify to that. So we took the room they had available because we had to be ready by 6. We also were entitled to late checkout. On Saturday. We got to the room it was okay. 2 very narrow windows overlooking an alley and a brick wall. You couldn't tell if it were day or night, or if the sun was shining. Thank g-d for the padded walls because I needed them. I'm lucky my husband and I are thin because an average person probably wouldn't fit in the shower. The fan in the bathroom never turned off. When you go into the walk in closet the door would shut behind me. Oh and they took 150 off the price of our 1400 dollar room, that was really going to change our lives, that was an insult. We donated it to Harvey and Irma. We get back to our room and there's a note asking if we would do them a favor and checkout by noon and they would give us 4000 Starwood points immediately, that wasn't even the icing on the cake. And we had no intention of doing that since we had a 6PM flight. The next morning, we are still sleeping, do not disturb light is on and the maid starts banging on the door and then opens it, fortunately we had the inside bolt on. To say the least with all the choices in NYC and I have stayed at the St Regis before, it certainly is not the same. Rooms are tired, service is okay. I really hope management sees this. We are in NYC about every 6 weeks, our son lives there and we are there with our extended family for a charity event we attend every year for 5 days in March. The St Regis won't be on my list of hotels my next trip to NYC. Too many fabulous hotels to choose from!
