Paid over $200 for a room comparable to a super 8. Restaurant ran out of food 2 hours before closing time. Continental breakfast was an absolute joke.

Needs to be demolished and something new built. Rooms are nasty, our toilet was dirty when we checked in and the room smelled of cheap perfume. Not sure if that was worn by the person that destroyed the toilet or if that is something that's sprayed to cover other problems. someone dropped a mask in the hallway on Monday and it's still there today which is Thursday! obviously no housekeeping going on at all!

Nice setting and dining — excellent food. It did take a long time for all of us to receive our food which is due to the fact that they only assigned 1 waitress to our group. Not sure if they were poorly staffed or not, but we did stay later than intended. Some people were already done eating by the time everyone got their food. All in all a great experience, and — could — be a 5 star experience with more wait staff.

Cute place. Location was perfect for our motorcycle waterfall and swimming hall adventure this summer. The staff was great, the food was good, the rooms are clean, and a beautiful place to stay. The beds were really comfy with amazing pillows. Love the ambience and the bar was perfect with an outdoor patio overlooking a lovely marina. We got a free breakfast Friday morning. I think they do that Monday through Friday. The front desk gave us maps to waterfalls with swimming holes and helped us with our every need. They had a really clean swimming pool and hot tub. The housekeeping staff was also wonderful.

Starting with the positive, the front desk attendants were very kind and welcoming. The hotel itself is in very obvious need of updates, unfortunately as is the case with many non franchise hotels. The outside is very "dumpy" looking and the inside is not much better the carpet, doors, signage and elevators in the hallways are all very worn. The room itself was clean and had been slightly updated, which was appreciated, however the mini fridge leaked and the air conditioning unit was very loud and made it hard to sleep. The location of the hotel is unique being right on the water, which is lovely and there is a marina right next door. Overall our stay was average, but for the room rate of $169 we will not be returning. Hopefully some updates will be done in the near future, because this hotel's location and staff (that we interacted with) certainly gives it potential.

Beautiful outside patio! Protected from the Lake Superior breeze. Ordered the beef brisket nachos for $12. Brisket is tender and full of flavor, however they used a bunch of chips to fill the plate so lots of chips without any toppings. One of those "stuff only on the top" kind of nachos… they need to layer! Great service and very relaxing sitting in the summer sun.

Our family is very easy going and not very picky. We have stayed at Barkers Island Inn for the last three years. It had its problems (lost power one year, double billed one year) but overall was always a good time. There is a restaurant on site with a bar. There is a pool with games for kids and seems like a beautiful spot. This year I was anything but impressed. I was actually disgusted. For one with the room that we paid for and it’s level of cleanliness, and for how our group was treated in the restaurant. We stayed in room 156 which was a suite with a jacuzzi tub, pull out sofa sleeper and king size bed. There were bugs in the window sill, hair and soap scum all over in the jacuzzi, and trash behind the sofa that was found when trying to plug in a phone. The sofa sleeper did not pull out when my son got back to room to go to sleep. There was a laminated sign under couch cushions that stated the sofa was broke. Call the front desk to bring a roll bed. At the restaurant we made reservations 1/2 hour before arriving with a group of 16 which ended up being 20 and the manager didn’t want to seat the extras in an open table. There was a lot of open spots. His only reason-“ it’s not his kitchen”?! Then told us at the all you can eat fish fry that the kids were eating too much. I did not see anyone with plates piled high. One or two pieces of fish or chicken. That’s not asking too much to expect food on a buffet. There was a restaurant full of empty spots.

Probably the best fish and chips I've ever had in my opinion but as you can probably tell with my past reviews I have bad opinions but its really good. This may have been the place I found out that chips are French fries for Americans. I thought they were literal chips ;-;

Homemade dishes, daily salad bar, specialty drinks and dinner specials Wednesday — Sunday. Great views, relaxing patio… great for booking events!

Place needs a serious renovation (it's stuck in the 80's — everything is old) but the beds are comfy, sheets are soft, pillows amazing — — so you'll sleep well; after all, isn't that the most important thing? I'm sure it was off the hook a long time ago. It could be amazing again with a major update. The employees are wonderful, friendly, helpful. It's just, well, old.

Used to love it here. This place needs an attitude adjustment. We had asked several times if we needed reservation while waiting at the bar for the last one of our party to show. When we were all there they told us it would be over an hour wait. Asked for the manager and he was an absolute pompous jerk. One of our party has lived her entire 80/something life here & will never go back. Our afternoon started when the bar manager asked our less than 21 driver, son of my friend to leave the bar after we had been there for over an hour. We were the only people in bar.

We went to Barker's Island for our family swim day. It's just nice not to have to rent a room and just be able to go and enjoy the pool. The service is always amazing… and they're always cleaning the place :-)

Being from the area, I have never stayed at this hotel. My five year old son and I, however, for $5 each, take advantage of their swimming area for 4 hours! Nice warm pool, hot tub and a nice sauna make this our destination when we feel like swimming, but the weather doesn't agree! Always a friendly staff at the Barker's Island Inn!

I have stayed at Barker's island one time before I moved to Superior and have gone swimming there recently after being here. My original stay at Barker's was nice. Great hotel. Had some problems with the electricity when I was there but overall, nice resort with a nice area around it. There is minigolf and fishing spots all around Barker's. The rooms are well kept and do have a television. The bathroom was also nice. There is a pool with a hot tub which I have swam in. For a hotel, I felt it was a decent size pool. There is also a dry sauna connected to the showers. So if you need a easy way to dry off, there is that option. Overall, I would give it 5/5 stars. I have stayed at way worse places for way more money.

My son and I enjoy paying 5 dollars each for 4 hours of the pool area. Nice, warm pool, sauna, and hot tub are well maintained. We live in the area, so I've never stayed here to report on the rooms.

Nice and friendly. I think the bar and food prices are a little high. $50 for a family of four. 2 adults and 2 Kids under 10yrs of age. Other than that, rooms are always clean and beds are made daily. I'd recommend to others.

Always a must for the best holiday buffets. Big family, no one wants to host or cook. This always a good buffet. Great service. Enough room to feel comfortable.

Rooms were clean and front desk Staff were nice. Head of conference center was nasty to the wedding party. It was an alcohol free wedding (just didn't pay for bar in the conference room) but we were expected if we were going to drink that we would have to go to the bar (down the hall) but the bartenders we're rude and even though they weren't very busy it was easily a 30 minute wait for a rum and coke.

Love everything about this place! Great pool, hot tub, sauna, and rooms! Restaurant and bar is amazing! Great walleye!

My wife and I have been going to Barkers for 10-12 years for the Geaps Banquet. Always great service. This year we were in room 113 as usual the heat didn't work properly. Room was very cold. Wife had to sleep in her sweats and wool socks. Just wanted to give a heads up so you can fix.

Everything is broken, breakfast is not free on weekends, there is no security and half the town is drinking here. There are solo cups in the pool. The hot tub gets don't work and the water is brown. The employees of the front desk are extremely lazy like you would only find in Superior. Don't pay to come here. Just wait for a paying chump to let you in, then go crazy in here. They won't do anything bc they don't have the stamina to care about their jobs.

Had a clean room with a beautiful view. The place could use a little renovating but it was still nice. The hallways are a but dim, which makes it seem weird. The pool and hot tub area is clean and very nice. Staff was also nice and helpful. The back parking lot is sketchy, and the LONG walk to our room are the only reason this place gets 4 stars over 5.

Nice place a bit of a walk to some of the rooms. Rooms didn't have the tub they say that they have but they do have a hot tub and pool. Hot tub always looked dirty. Last day I was there I watched people get out of the hot tub and you could see a film on top of the water. They only clean the hot tub and pool once a week I would think it should be done more. Over all the employees were friendly.

Room was clean and had a great view. Had an issue with the room above us and the staff worked with us to get a new room. The attached restaurant also had amazing food. Really enjoyed the whole experience.

First Time traveling with a dog. Also have a child in a wheelchair. Beautiful setting on an island on the water. Nice and peaceful with great walking paths and water views. We had a room at the end in the pet section and it was one of the quietest hotel stays I have ever had. The pool area was wonderful because they have a lift chair into pool and hot tub so my daughter could enjoy. Also used the sauna. The breakfast was included and delicious. Nice to have a hot complete breakfast to start the day rather than mediocre breakfast buffet at chain hotels. The staff was all extremely helpful and polite. You made our first vacation in six years truly a time of relaxation. We will definitely come back again. Thank you!

Recently renovated, Barker's island is a nice hotel and conference room. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and also held a meeting. The food was pretty good. Service could be improved but our waitress had two large groups to deal with. The other large group was loud at times but we were able to deal with it. A little off the main drag, but a good place to stay or hold an event.

I recently had my wedding here and the food was amazing. The staff was very friendly, however it was supposed to rain the day of and having to move my wedding into the ball room, I was worried about the decorations I had hand made. (Signs) I felt that my concerns were brushed under the table and was like "oh well, we can't do anything about it" I understand the ballroom is set up and it's hard to move tables but I also felt like they didn't want to inconvenience themselves to move some Tables if need be. However it did not rain so all was well. My other concern was that the staff was not very helpful when it came time to line up and get everyone ready to go and at rehearsal. They left us for ourselves basically. You have to walk through the restaurant and we were kind of hurried because dinner was going on at rehearsal. The day of, the boys got ready in the lake eerie room and were listening to rap music and got yelled at for swearing. Which I understand people don't like swearing but boys will be boys. And it's the grooms wedding day, they are all hyped up. They did an amazing job on the reception venue and getting the tables off the dance flood quickly. Jessica the night time manager was awesome to work with! She was very accommodating. The bartenders in the bar and at the one they set up for the wedding were amazing. Beautiful place to have a wedding right on the lake. Overall I'm very happy with how things went, just a few times I felt that we were inconveniencing people.

Always a great place to visit for one or a multiple night stay. Friendly staff and good food. Rooms are good to. I stay here at least two times per year. Mainly for the volunteering I do in the area.

Great place to stay. Real breakfast at a restaurant. Good rates and lovely views. Chase at reception is very friendly and informed. They do a military/veteran discount. Great rooms with real jacuzzi tubs, not those glorified bathtubs. Benches feet from the shore to enjoy a coffee and relax.

Ok, but overall in general need of aesthetic and mechanical updating. Halls and rooms quite musty, very 70's/80's feel. Pool was nice. Did not eat at restaurant. Very nice location for nature lovers. Staff friendly and helpful.

Hotel is nice. Room included a fridge and microwave which is always a plus. Attached restaurant's food was average at best but service was good. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The pool was warm and everything was very accessible. We didn't find the room the cleanest but I've certainly seen worse.

Because with veru little effort it could be so much nicer. Well worth the stay if you only expect a 3 star rating from a 2 star type of Hotel. Nice people. Worth the stay if you are not picky.

This was a good experience except for the food. My wife had a shrimp/lobster pasta meal for $25 consisting of 3 small lobster pieces, 2 small shrimp, and a small portion of watery pasta. My daughter also had a scant chicken pasta meal with watery pasta. Neither my wife nor daughter ate the pasta. I had an $18 cod and french fry meal, not even comparable to Perkins $8 version, but it was good. Breakfast is not serve yourself but choose one of 4 options and one beverage. If you choose coffee, it is $2 extra for an 8-ounce glass of watered-down orange juice (I found this to be unacceptable! ) Really, could they not afford to at least give a decent portion of inexpensive pasta (made right) and some decent orange juice free with the coffee at breakfast? Non-concentrate OJ goes for $3 per 64 oz these days! And oh yeah, you are expected to tip the breakfast, which we did at $2 a person. Otherwise, the pool was a nice size and the rooms seemed to be clean as they should be. And the AC worked great. The desk people were nice. But work on that food — giving some better portions of inexpensive items could go a long way for you.

Service was OK, no complaints. Wasn't very busy on a Saturday evening. 3 meals, all not worth eating again. The food clearly had been sitting, the nachos were burnt and even though you could clearly see this, they were sent out by the kitchen, served by the waitress, and we were asked if everything was OK by the manager. Ended up telling them at the end of the meal the nachos were bad because our kid didn't want to be rude speaking up, but she ate the ones in the middle and suffered through it. The pork chops tasted 'off' and the mussels had no flavor. Stuffed mushrooms appetizer was good. We won't be returning. First and last time.

I LOVE this place! I return every year with a couple of friends for a weekend stay because we love the Superior/Duluth area. Barkers is a reasonably priced hotel with the amenities everyone would like in a mid-priced hotel. In addition to Barkers' location, there are so many others things that make this hotel a wide and pleasing choice. The staff is not only friendly but always go out of their way to help make their guests' stay pleasant. One can tell right away that the staff love what they're doing and obviously have good management. There is always someone visible to the guests. You don't have to look for someone to assist you or answer a question. Teamwork is a top priority for this hotel's staff. Staff members do their jobs; they aren't hesitant to chip in to help their co-workers. The on-site restaurant is reasonably priced and the food delicious! You know it has to be good as it's a favorite with the locals! Rooms are spacious, newly updated, clean and most have a wonderful view. The rooms are quiet as well as the hallways. There just isn't enough nice things to say about this establishment! Give it a try and I really don't think you'll b sorry!

I was there after the Heavy on Wrestling event at Wessman Arena. We had some drinks with the wrestlers. It's a nice place.

Had a jacuzzi suite for my sons birthday, it was ok, pool was a little too cold couldnt sqim in it as we were too cold and it was kind of dirty (there was a huge clump of hair floating around! ). Went for the motjers day buffet, it was grossy over priced! Food was ok but nothing to rave about for $23 a person.

Friendly fast service. I had great food menu and the porch is awsome. Its nice to sit outside and watch the boats in lake superior.

The food was good, we did expect a little more variety of food, lots of deserts thought. Also we were a little surprised to wait about 20 min for a table even with a reservation, but perhaps it would have been even longer without one. AL in all it was a nice time and we will most likely be back.

We booked three nights hoping to enjoy the pool and hot tub. I read good reviews. We could only go down there 1 of the 3 nights. The other two nights were pretty much unusable due to loud and rude teenagers. They were using chairs in the hot tub, cannon balls, ect… I voiced my concern at the front desk and it sounds like most of these kids were non guests, only there to use the pool. Didn't seem to matter that I was unhappy. Giving it 2 stars because the restaurant was OK.

Great hotel having a nice pool and hot tub indoor and warm. Comfortable for small events. The restaurant is a bit slow but decent food. Nice to have the bar inside. Room is comfy and while not the biggest rooms I've been in they are not cramped. I've enjoyed my stay here for events and won't complain about additional ones here.

Spacious rooms, great service, pool is excellent. Middle of an island and just far enough away from civilisation to get away, but close enough to get what ever I need.

It was a pretty good experience. This was the second time since NYE I've gone to an event hosted there, and Barker's Island has done a solid job with what they were expected to do. The event flowed nicely, servers were friendly and quick, plenty of space. Overall, a good experience.

Room is what I would expect for a lower rate price. Clean, but needs better lighting in the room. Bar has an identity crisis… coxy until the jukebox starts, too loud and awful choice in music (unless you like punk and rap).

Great location with a short drive to activities. Very quiet, even on the pool side room. Clean, new beds, fresh paint. I don't think high class will be very satisfied, but upper mid class should find nothing wrong. I liked this motel better than the grand opening hotel master suite we stayed in for our wedding!

I've been staying at Barkers for about 20 years. It's an older local place but seems to get better every stay. They have put alot of work into updating and the staff couldn't be friendlier. My family love the pool area and the location is perfect.
