Great place all around. Nice accommodations. Staff is fun and inviting. Yummy breakfast. Have a met a few fun guests out by the fire pit. Everything is just wonderful for a small family, or fun friends or simple romantic getaway or even a solo recharge trip. Highly recommended.

John, who lives on site, was very welcoming and accommodating. We brought our 2 dogs along for a long weekend. They had dog beds, bowls, dog towels, and dog treats for our fur babies in the room. The place looks modern, was immaculate and smelled clean as well! So very thankful for a dog friendly place! We enjoyed the stay and would easily recommend a stay there anytime. Thank you!

A great experience from check in to check out! The people that run that place makes it so pleasant. They all took the time to get to know you. The best, friendly place to stay. We enjoyed the company of the other guests by the fire. And we wish every place loved dogs as much as this place. Really makes travel with pets easy and fun.

Staff is always accommodating and helpful. They have an entire wing dedicated to pet friendly rooms with treats, beds, blankets, towels, and a dog washing station. Great location and rates!

The Open Hearth is my favorite place to stay in DC. The employees are friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean and beautiful. Also, huge plus the hotel is dog friendly. Our pup, Opi, loved running around the grounds! Thank you for such a great place to stay!

My husband and I stayed here last week for a little anniversary getaway with our pup, and we were beyond impressed. John and Nora went above and beyond to make sure we had an excellent stay, and they were SO nice when we had an incident with our dog. The rooms and amenities were super clean and nice. They even had a cute little basket of puppy treats, bowls, etc. For our dog! The location is also perfect — we walked on the path into Sister Bay each day for dinner and drinks. (Note — you do not have to walk on the highway — the path runs safely alongside it and it's only a~15 minute walk into town! ) I would VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone — with or without a dog. Thank you, John and Nora!

Great place for Door County stay! Child friendly, clean, good location, cute decor and very friendly, helpful owners! The outdoor patio is beautiful along with the nature area behind the hotel. Our experience was excellent!

King whirlpool room with a fireplace was perfect for our getaway! Very clean, staff very accommodating. Great coffee in the room, and quick breakfast of yogurt, cherries, — apples, English muffins, boiled eggs. Housekeeping lady was very friendly and helpful in supplying our extra needs. Clean and neat beautiful lobby.

Cleanest pool and hot tub in my opinion anywhere in Doo County and the best hospitality bar none.

The staff was top notch… from the initial call with John to inquire about vacancy to checking in with a mother/daughter duo that so kindly assisted in making sure the room we were in was perfect for our needs. The whole property was neat and tidy, the rooms were evidence that the staff takes their job seriously and the rates were very affordable. For an impromptu trip a few hours from home just to get away… we were extremely happy with our choice to stay here and highly recommend it to anyone traveling to the Sister Bay area.

For the past several years my wife and I have stayed at the Open Hearth Lodge while attending Winterfest. We keep coming back again and again because it is clean, comfortable, cozy and close to restaurants, activities and other points of interest. But most of all, the staff are eager to go out of their way to ensure their guests are well taken care of. We highly recommend booking your stay at the Open Hearth Lodge! You won't regret it!

Wonderful experience on a family visit with 6 adults, 8 kids, and 2 dogs, over Christmas, no less! Owners are wonderful! Property is very well maintained, great location, plenty of amenities, including free breakfast!

Beautiful place, nice and clean room! We stayed here for our 3 year anniversary and loved it! It felt like something out of a hallmark movie. We sat by the bonfire pit in the back both nights and talked with other guests. It was a consensus that we all love the lodge and would want to come back. We plan to go back next year!

Very clean and reasonably priced. Have a fire pit with comfy patio furniture. Also a gas grill available if you want to cook outside. Lobby was cozy with fireplace and comfortable seating. Less than 5 minutes away from town and shopping. Would definitely go again.

Pool & hot tub were great, along with huge, beautiful back patio with campfire!

First the good stuff: comfy bed, good shower, clean rooms, great pool, hot tub, Fire pit, exercise room and sauna. The only bad thing is the breakfast: weak cheap coffee, awful donuts limited selection and space. There are too many places that are much better for cheaper prices. If you are not going to do something well then don’t bother!

Had the best sleep on our vacation. The owner was very nice and hospitable. Very very clean rooms and bathrooms. Amazing backyard and the pool was nice as well. This will be my go to place when we take a visit to door county!

We stayed here last weekend for our 15th Anniversary weekend. The staff was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and sincere. The whole atmosphere felt comfortable and inviting. This place is close enough to the larger town events but far enough away to be a quiet retreat. We would love to stay here again!

Thank you Open Hearth Lodge for your wonderful hospitality during our 4th of July visit to Door County. Also, our dogs had a wonderful visit too. We enjoy our rooms, breakfast (yummy pancakes) and the gorgeous patio. All of staff including housekeeping were top notch. We look forward to staying here again!

Wonderful place! The price to stay was very reasonable and I loved the hot tub/pool/outdoor space. Sitting around the fire at night or in the hot tub was very relaxing. Rooms are spacious but also warm and cozy feeling. All employees and owners were very friendly and welcoming, especially Loki We will definitely be back!

My husband and I came here for our anniversary. A much needed getaway, as its been a good 3 years since we went anywhere without the kids.

We had a great 3-day weekend here. This place is very warm and inviting, from the decor, to the adorably fun pancake maker included in the continental breakfast! Our sister's weekend included time spent in the dry sauna, pool and hot tub. We also enjoyed interesting conversation and laughter around the gas fire pit with other guests, as well as with the lodge owners. We will definitely return to Open Hearth, and highly recommend it to others!

Loved our stay, quiet place away from tourist area, but close enough to the action as well. Loved the breakfast room with big windows overlooking the back where there is a patio and a fire pit area with gas fire going all evening. Room was clean, comfortable, and we enjoyed our 2 night stay.

Perfect small getaway in Sister Bay! We spent our honeymoon stay here and were so impressed. When we booked online we thought the price and amenities were too good to be true! The room size, pool, breakfast options, and outdoor patio made our stay very enjoyable. The location just outside Sister Bay gave us a break from the busy downtown, but also allowed us to be close enough to enjoy the town. We will be back to Open Hearth again.

This was our first stay at this hotel. We needed a place with a king size bed and were also looking for something in Sister Bay with a pool. Open Hearth Lodge delivered all this and more. The location on the south edge of Sister Bay is perfect to get around Door County, but especially to our favorite city there, Sister Bay. The room was just the right size and the indoor pool and hot tub were good for a little break from running around all day. There were more amenities we didn't have the chance to enjoy also, like the fire pit. Clean and modern hotel with easy access and parking.

Okay so we came with our doggies and our doggies are our babies and Open Hearth Lodge treated them as such too! We checked in and waiting for us in the room was a little doggie basket filled with some treats, bowls for food and water, blankets, and towels which made us so happy because you know accidents happen and sometimes you want to wash their paws before coming into the room. Our puppies were comfortable, and so were we! There was also a lot around; we had dinner at Boathouse on the Bay and ice cream at the factory, mini golf at Pirates Cove. It was all within a five minute drive and just wonderful. We have our new place thanks to Open Hearth Lodge. Thank you for everything!

Wow! What a fantastic place for families to vacation at in Door County. Close to all the stores in Ephraim and Sister Bay. A fantastic backyard with grills, a playground and seating area for groups. This place is also super clean and the staff is extra friendly. Highly recommend you stay here.

Stayed here for our anniversary this weekend & our king whirlpool suite was wonderful. The hospitality from John & Nora was excellent — we were treated to a bottle of Door County Peninsula wine upon arrival & they gave us some extra time to soak in the hot tub since we got there right before 10 the first night. Then the second night we lost our room key while we were out for a late dinner & John was very understanding and helped us get back into our room. We will definitely recommend & return here for future Door County visits!

Simply Amazing. 11/10 would reccomend. The staff and management have managed to go above and beyond at every possible turn. We were visiting as part of a bike trip, and they have been incredibly welcoming. One evening we asked about local bar options to the gentleman at the front desk and not only does he give us an excellent pick, (Fred & Fuzzys), but he also offered to drive us there in his personal car. We then find out on the ride over that he is the proprietor, John, and he offered to pick us up afterward as well. Later in our stay, we had asked if a rolling pin was available in order to roll out some sore muscles. An unusual request to be sure. But to our amazement, John got in his car that very moment and bought a rolling pin from Shopko, justifying it by saying "We don't have one at the resort yet, just use it now and we will keep it after. " The rolling pin proved to be an incredible relief after several days of hard biking. I am greatly appreciative for this gesture. Overall an incredible place. Exellent rooms, great location, LEGENDARY staff. ❤

Comfy, quiet home-away-from-home. Many lovely, timely updates inside and out! Owners/staff always address ANY request or problem immediately and in a positive manner. Love this place!

This place was perfect! The breakfast every morning was a great way to start our days and the hot tub in our room was a perfect way to unwind. The staff was friendly and smiling but not overly pushy or fake friendly… highly recommend!

The desk staff was welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel was quaint but new updates made it everything it needed to be. Their Wi-Fi was having issues, but I wasn't there to be on my phone, so it didn't bother me!

Nice country setting located in Sister Bay. Center of everything. Clean, homey, friendly. We were able to bring our dog which was great! Pool small but clean, nice hot tub. We were there end of March so didn't get to try out there nice outdoor area. Beds were a bit hard, breakfast was a bit weak (could use yogurt, fruit) but we would definitely stay here again!

The perfect in between… not as impersonal as a hotel, not as homey as a bed and breakfast. Very clean rooms, very spacious, helpful staff, beautiful property. With two young kids we managed to have a really lovely time… even with it being off season.

Clean, comfortable, reasonably priced, friendly staff and nice amenities. Location is great, about 2 minutes from Sister Bay and 5 minutes from Ephraim. Owners are on site and are great hosts. Pool & spa are beautiful and well maintained. Breakfast room is comfortable with a great view. Can't go wrong staying here.

Was in Door County for Winterfest, with three friends. We enjoyed our stay with the hot tub, swim pool, great breakfast (neat pancake machine) and great staff! Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to stay at very reasonable rates.

Don't look any further for the best place to stay in Door County! Everything about Open Hearth Lodge is about relaxation in a laid back setting with many amenities. Sister Bay is positioned between all the towns and the tip of the peninsula so you have access North and South as well as a main road to cross over to Baileys Harbor and Ellison Bay. The lodge has luxury suites as well as standard rooms to enjoy. We stayed in a luxury suite one weekend that had a whilrlpool bath in the master bedroom (there was a living room and kitchenette also). I left home so tired and wiped. After exploring artsy shops, walking in the natural beauty of the UP, eating delicious foods at the local places, meeting friendly real people during the day, mornings I soaked in the tub watching Nat Geo and sipping the complimentary Door County coffee. By Sunday I was all fixed — happy, calm and so pampered. Go to Open Hearth, don't pack much, breathe.

The Open Hearth Lodge was good enough for our needs, which were a place to stay that allowed dogs. It was clean and cute, with a big area in the back for said dogs. That said, the advertised dog area wasn't fenced in, which seems like an obvious thing and dogs weren't allowed in common areas. From a more general standpoint, the breakfast was very underwhelming and was extremely carb-heavy, with no fruit or yogurt.

Very nice rooms, and some are newly renovated! Pool and hot tubs are nice but lots of chlorine. Small breakfast served in the morning and a small shop.

Cozy atmosphere, good price. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable. Definitely would stay here again.

Overall it was a nice 2 night stay. However we had an issue with the maid cleaning our room. I called the front desk in the afternoon and apparently the maid was on her way out. She agreed to come freshen up the room so we spent some time away. When we came back the maid had barely done anything. Otherwise the rest of the staff was very friendly including the dog who sometimes hangs out at the front desk.

Friendly owners! A low price for the area. The grounds are green and spacious. Fire pit outside (they provide firewood, you provide the kindling), standard hotel room inside. Just outside of Sister Bay, nice and quiet, but within just a few minutes of driving to businesses across town. They have an indoor pool and a hot tub. There is breakfast in the morning, but I didn't partake.

Delightful Door County lodge. We highly recommend this hotel. They are gracious to cyclists. Breakfast is included with a pancake machine. Pool, hot tub, big back lawn area with patio and fire pit are some of the amenities. Refrigerators and coffee available in rooms. Microwave is in breakfast area. Very friendly staff.

I had a great experience at the open heart lodge and I can't wait to come back next year. The pool is good for families with kids and a max depth of 5ft. The breakfast is good to but not a huge selection.

Overall it was pretty good. The only complaint is that the pet-friendly room we stayed in smelled terrible. I was expecting it to smell (like other people's pets) to some extent, but I didn't think it would be that terrible. It hit me like a brick wall every time we entered the room. Aside from that our stay was absolutely wonderful.

Wife and I stayed here overnight during the week. This is the 3rd time we've stayed at this Lodge. This particular suite had a whirlpool, which was awesome. The rate was good, staff is friendly, and they did us a big favor when we checked out. It's really close to the beach and good restaurants. Lot of good things.

Cute place! Best hotel bed I ever slept in! Great location. Only thing was second day we had breakfast there was no one to be found to refill Contininetal breakfast. A little disappointing but otherwise would totally recommend!

5 stars are not enough for the Open Hearth Lodge! This hotel exceeded my expectations and was a perfect for my family's visit in a few weeks ago. The location is fantastic — right on the outskirts of Sister Bay. Sister Bay was pretty central to the activities we were doing while in Door County so it seemed like we were always within 15-25 minutes of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, nicely furnished, and comfortable beds. There is a lot of outdoor space in the back w/ a fire ring, lawn chairs, and a play area and sandbox for the kids. My kids loved the pool area — it was very clean and there were even some pool toys available to play with. The included breakfast was fantastic — donuts, cereal, toast, hard boiled eggs, good coffee, and even a pancake machine turning out freshly made pancakes! I will definitely recommend this hotel to friends and would certainly stay here again if we return to Door County :)

Rooms are spacious and very clean. Stones throws from all the tourist activity. Also near a super market if you need to make a run for supplies.

Great family owned lodge! Comfortable rooms, family friendly "back yard", fun board games, delicious coffee and a mesmerizing pancake machine. Convenient location.

Very convenient location on the southern edge of Sister Bay. Nice little breakfast with pancakes and Door County Coffee. Very friendly staff, and an obviously family feel. Blurs the lines between a Bed and Breakfast and hotel. Also a nice hot tub and pool, playground, and outdoor area with grills and chairs. Overall, a great and relaxing place to stay.

We have been coming here for almost 30 years… a Winter Get-A-Way we have enjoyed with four other couples… cross-country skiing (in our younger years) … shopping in Fish Creek… dining at Sister Bay Bowl (best fish fry in WI). Soothing achy bones in the pool and hot tub… sharing jokes, family stories, and our memories in front of the main room fireplace… or recently the bright, sunny warm breakfast room. The rooms are ALWAYS squeaky clean, the upgrades and improvements made over the years keep it fresh. Maybe it's the friends, but our visits were ALWAYS the best of times. We HIGHLY recommend the Open Hearth Lodge! The innkeepers are very friendly, but we also recommend bringing friends… and start your OWN memories…

I generally only write reviews for one of two reasons, a really bad experience or a really great experience. I was blown away by the Open Hearth Lodge in Sister Bay, WI. The website looked good and the prices were fantastic, so we decided to stay here for the weekend. The room was modern, super clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for the weekend stay. The staff and owners were extremely kind and helpful, we felt like friends, not just guests. Our daughter loved the pool area and they even had some pool toys for kids. Overall, this is an A+++ Lodge and we will be back.

My mom and stayed here in July 2009 for a long weekend. We both really enjoyed our stay. The facilities and rooms were clean and comfortable. The hot tub was big and clean. The staff was helpful and friendly. Location was nice for us — just outside of town. Our room faced the backyard area and it was quiet at night with the windows open. Breakfast was pretty basic, but sufficient for a continental breakfast. I also liked that they had recycling bins in the room.
