They gave us a room that had unmade beds, dirty towels on the floor and bathroom, food on top of refrigerator — not impressed and they didnt seem too worried about it. I had requested a room near the exit since we were traveling with dogs but they put us in the middle near elevator. Wont be staying there again.

The hotel is set up for extended stay and has a small kitchen that's fully stocked with basic equipment and supplies. Conveniently located to a shopping center and the interstate and probably 5 to 10 min away from City Center for entertainment. The front desk is friendly and helpful, the housekeeping is not daily but you can ask for linens to be replaced. The rooms have been recently renovated and the beds are pretty comfortable. There is a laundry room and a small gym with limited equipment. The pool is outdoors with a fountain and handicap accessible. We were very happy with our stay and would come back.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Customer service = 5 stars Location= 5 stars Room amenities= 5 stars Carpet in hallways and room= 3 stars Towels and shower water pressure= 3 stars Elevator= 2 stars (last inspected in 2013) Smell of room= 1 star This appears to be an older hotel with some updates. Lobby looked comfy. Nice, comfy, new mattresses. Updated bathrooms. Kitchenette is useful, clean, and convenient. No free breakfast, but you're located by a grocery store and can easily buy cheap items for breakfast to make in the kitchenette. The shower and faucets had really hot water, but the water pressure was weak and this is extremely important when you have long hair! The linens appeared clean, but the velour blanket on top of the bed smelled as though a million people had used it and it had never been washed. *gag* The towels were rough, to the point of hurting my skin when drying off. The room reeked of cigarette smoke, though it is a non-smoking room. *eww* Even though we were on the top floor I could hear the neighbor walking in their kitchenette as if they were above us. I could also hear neighbors laughing and talking. The TV was limited and the remote barely worked. They had a DVD player and that remote had battery acid all over it. Maybe I would have enjoyed my stay more if there was no smell. The staff and the location certainly deserve top reviews. Extremely nice, professional, and helpful.

Water pressure on 3rd floor is terrible and tastes weird. Room doesn't smell the best either so hence the one less star. Oh and lack of a decent coffee mess. That automatic machine has horrible coffee unless it's the water but I think it's the cheap coffee sitting in there waiting to be used one in a blue moon. Staff is nice and hotel is clean so I gave the 4 stars because I'm an IHG fan and this place was decent just used to reg rooms in HI Express.

We stayed in this Candlewood Suits for a week and truly appreciated its great location to highway access and to all sorts of stores. Their family-like front staffs are wonderful and helpful!

Super clean. Friendly staff. Great location. Rooms are good size and layout is perfect.

Nice room. I had to change our own linens. Other than that good location a lot of fiod places near by and right next to the movie theater.

The staff was very friendly & helpful, and the room was very comfortable. We were traveling with our dog, an 80 pound Boxer mix, but there was plenty of space for the three of us in the room, plus a nice outdoor area for walking the dog.

Nice staff, but needed to change the curtain (stained). I told the GM and he discounted my bill. Definitely stay if in the area and if you have a dog.

Very comfortable and extremely reasonably priced for Newport News. Very quite area. Service was very good.

Not the kind of attention to detail I've come to the associate with Candlewood properties. Hotel is in dire need of renovation, although there were signs that some Cabinetry was replaced in my room but paint spots and other remodeling evidence was still visible with no attempt to cover it. There was some dishes still in the dishwasher and some of the dishes in the cabinet had obviously been run through but we're not really clean. The couch and pillows look like someone had just been sitting on them rather than the pillows taken up and arranged onto the couch. The grout in the bathroom is either chipped or missing or dirty in some spots. And no kitchen Linens supplied in the kitchen. I had to make do with a hand towel and washcloth from the bathroom supply to use in the kitchen. And they were apparently touch-up paint spots all over the room which were matched in color very poorly.

Friendly staff, great location and rooms are great. Wi-Fi is fast enough for a Roku to be attached to television.

The rooms were clean, with a fully equipped kitchen. Included were a toaster, sink, range top, microwave, various pots, pans, even a colander.

Clean suites that meet the need of extended stay guests. The kitchen in the suite is great. Pool is a little small.

Pet friendly, rooms are great and clean, and the staff are friendly. Prices are reasonable for what they provide.

The room was clean but had a musty odor coming from the AC unit. The service was good and the bed was comfortable.

I have been staying here for two nights, the area around the hotel is nice but the I did not enjoy the building. The evaluator smelled of one of two things every time I got on, extreme b. O or cigarettes. My room is fine, needs to be upgraded but my last night here out of no where my room began to smell like cigarette smoke. It wouldn't go away, I called down she said she'd take care of it. Yet my room still smells like an ash tray… they need stricter smoking policies and shouldnt allow guests to smoke in the building, it's a disgusting habit which I do not participate in but will now smell if all night long. Also pet policy should not be more than 10 dollars per pet.

This is the worst Candlewood suites I have ever stayed at. My wife and I new to Virginia on a PCS move decide to stay here because the surroundings are beautiful but when we arrived at the hotel the first eye sore was the disgusting blackish greenish looking pool. With leaves covering the pool ground. As we entered the hotel to check in a woman was on duty well let's just say she was there because she seemed to forget that she had a job to do. She checked us in gave us no greeting or directions what so ever. The whole time she complained to a guess how she didn't want to work this job because she had another job and this job kept her here for so long. The first night was just the tip of the iceberg as the next day approaches their is no one at the front desk to help you with any concerns and the smoke free room we had smelled so awful. During our stay the power went off just about every day and the shower lukewarm water went out. The beds are in need of upgrades they are not good to sleep on what so ever. They make noise when you move and the springs can be felt. The bed sheets were dirty and getting an exchange was the worst seeing how no one ever stayed at the desk. The pet policy needs to be changed we walked in to the entrance where a customer was sitting on the arm of the chair allowing her dog to roam free with no leash while talking to finally a person at the desk. This place is supposed to be military friendly but this is a joke.

Very nice, convenient location, room had plenty of space to work, prepare a meal, or just kick back & relax in the recliner. They provide laundry facilities which are free to use and they were very clean and seemed almost brand new. There is a great little store in the lobby where you can purchase all kinds of snacks & drinks, or even food to prepare a full meal. There are outdoor facilities where you can grill if you prefer. There are also restaurants of every kind all around the area as well as shopping and a great theatre right across the street. This place offers everything you could possibly need for an overnight stay or even a place to live if need be. The staff is very accommodating, and I would recommend this to anyone. Even though it is close to everything, it's very quiet and peaceful. There's also a fitness room, swimming pool, and free coffee anytime, AND a lake right outside our window! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that they don't provide breakfast; however, you can purchase breakfast foods in their on-site store and eat in your kitchenette in the room. Loved it!

This hotel is in a good location with nice room setup for longer stays. Big plus is the free washer and dryers. The staff was very helpful.

Everything you need is close and staff were excellent.
