Amenities were lacking, lobby was dirty. Seemed like the only reason it's more expensive than any other in the area is so that people can feel haughty about paying more, because I certainly didn't feel like we got what we paid for.

Nice hotel in great location. The bar/restaurant on the 6th floor provides a nice place to hang out. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly and accommodating. However, it was difficult to sleep one Saturday evening due to noisy guests down the hall. Although they were in their room you could still hear them talking. The most challenging issue was that you could hear the room doors closing repeatedly which was loud enough to interrupt sleep. In hindsight this hotel probably wasn’t the best choice for a quiet Saturday evening.

We had a great experience at The Republic on Grand. First of all, the space is completely unique to anything I've seen in Des Moines. Spectacular view. The food was fresh and beautifully presented. Our cocktails were perfect. And the service, wow! We will definitely be back!

The room was extremely modern and nice. We got the king room. On the main Street side so a little noisy but not bad. Parking is terrible, don't buy the parking pass because we did and there still wasn't room so we had to street park. I'd still stay there again.

Facilities were clean and orderly. Design was modern and pleasing. Staff were all pleasant and helpful. Atmosphere was enjoyable with great furnishings and views of downtown. Drink and food menu were great and the custom cocktails were ranged enough to appeal to most. Great experience.

Location was really good, with plenty of bars and food within walking distance. The hotel and room we're well accommodated, with a very neat style. Very enjoyable stay and we would consider another AC in the future. We didn't try the top restaurant but it did look very nice!

Service was a little slow but it was also packed. All the food and drinks were amazing! Would recommend going on a week day so you can hear yourself.

Iowa Safe Schools held the Governor's Conference Reception at the Republic bar on the top floor. What a great place to have this event, the views were great as was the service. The staff did a fantastic job. They were always moving to ensure fun was had by all.

As a bride, having a room block here for my upcoming wedding has been a total nightmare. Any time I or a guest attempts to make a reservation, it is a hassle to say the least. They've screwed up two different rooms, lost our entire block at one point, completely failed to make a reservation that they assured me they would do once their "credit card machine was up — " but I never got a confirmation, so thank god I called again to re-make the reservation. I really wish we would have chosen another hotel, but It's too late as we've had so many guests make reservations here already and our date is so close. So disappointed as every other aspect of the hotel is great. Maybe they are short on help, I don't know, but I expected more from a marriot hotel.

The AC hotel was modern, clean and convenient! The Republic was the perfect spot for pre-dinner drinks. Easy to find, staff was friendly and lots of dining options within walking distance.

We stopped in just to have a couple drinks. We were met with a Swanky fun semi outdoor bar on the top floor of the hotel. We met Jennifer the bartender who was super personable and is without question one of the most knowledgeable bartenders I've met. Not only did she perform a fantastic pour, she also explained how Iowa was one of the first AC hotels in the United States. Jennifer even went as far as to explain details around a specialty pork that is used in AC hotels all over the world which originates here in Iowa. Enough about the conversation we had I would recommend this bar and hotel to anyone traveling to the Des Moines area. Based on our limited experience in the bar alone I can only expect this hotel is top-notch. Next time the wife and I have a date night we'll probably book a room here.

Beautiful hotel. The rooms are very chic and minimalistic. So minimalistic it takes a minute to figure out some of the light switches & how to dial within the hotel on the in-room phone. Love the glass front fridge and the European style closet. There is a long bench in the room which holds 2 suitcases and has plenty of additional room for seating. The bathroom is exceptional with the dual shower head and low flow commode. A large vanity will accommodate all of your toiletries with room leftover. The linens are the same as most Marriots with that weird ruched top sheet over the comforter. Parking is one of the best I've seen, with a heated garage. Very nice! Great location, too. Cons are no room service & breakfast is $14 for a basic selection.

Had drinks and appetizers at The Republic. Great atmosphere. Friendly service. The view was great.

Service is AMAZING. We were running late and Susan drove us in her personal car to where we needed to be! All the staff is so polite. Very clean hotel, too. And very fancy decor!

The Republic on Grand was wonderful our bartender was smart and welcoming. The Hotel on the other hand was just eh. Don't get me wrong its pretty, but not exactly a good spot for a romantic stay (as we were here for our anniversary. ) I'm giving it 3 stars because of the bathrooms; the towels are overly starched and scratchy, there is a space between panels of the shower so water gets everywhere. The toilet is square and I don't need to go into detail about how square toilet is not ideal, there are light switches everywhere and everything is so busy looking nice, but they don't really work. The staff was pleasant though a few details weren't properly relayed, like checkout time and different things the hotel offers. I would recommend for an out of town businesperson.

Clean and modern hotel in the East Village. The rooms are comfortable and sleek, but don't expect personal touches like art or patterns.

Great classy environment with a motivated and friendly wait staff. Sections of the restaurant look out over the city with space heaters for when it's cold. I recommend visiting the Republic at AC Hotel.

Amazing hotel, rooms and bars is great. Was greeted with a smile and felt welcomed right away. Stephanie at the bar made me some amazing Amaretto Sour from scratch. Lovedit. She's friendly and amazing!

The hotel seems newish and is very modern and clean. A few things we didn't like: — no carpet in room — cold floor when you get out of bed in the morning — breakfast is very expensive — you need a science degree to figure out the shower adjustments! (Luckily my husband and I each have one! ) On the plus side the restaurant is good as long as you're not real hungry. We would stay here again.

A modern hotel that boasts a beautiful setting. Lovely clean rooms and two nice bars, one located on the ground floor near the lobby and the other in the 6th floor. Located in a great area where it is easy to get to and from the hotel.

This is the loudest hotel I've ever stayed in. There was a party going on in a room on our floor all night. I called the front desk multiple times. It was never resolved. This hotel must be for downtown partiers. The walls are way too thin for that. Right now as I write this I can hear two people in the hallway talking casually as they walk out. I don't care about a fancy bathroom or shiny modern furniture when I can't get any sleep.

Been to The Republic twice, love the server we had same server both times. She's a sweetheart, Sitting in the open air on the sixth floor is beautiful, great view. Amazing food.

Ver6 modern and beautiful room. However, the windows seals on the windows leaked and it rained most of the night. I also paid for guest parking in the garage just to find that there were no spots available. (No refund either) The parking garage was small and smelled of cigarettes. Not the greatest remarks, the room was nice and comfortable but very underwhelming for $230 a night.

From the bronze Great Danes flanking the entrance to the European-inspired breakfast, you realize very quickly that the AC isn't your average lodging. The public areas, room furnishings and decor all have a very modern European feel, and while it borders minimalist at times, it doesn't sacrifice the luxury at all. I had an excellent stay, and will stay here again.

Modern hotel in the trendy East Village where there are more options to do than you have time for. From the Zombie Burger experience across the road to a quiet glass of wine at DellaVitas next door, the location is amazing. Not to mention the hip open-air Republic bar/restaurant on the top floor of this hotel. Looking to experience downtown Des Moines… stay here.

I was visiting friends staying in the hotel and the room was nice. The friend said it was cheaper than everything else in the area but looked high quality. The bar was packed but had good drinks and food service.

I can't speak to the rooms. We were only there for dinner. But the hotel is gorgeous. The Republic is classy, clean, and trendy. The food was solid. Good drinks. Great service. Overall, we liked our experience.

AC Hotel is another great iteration of the Marriott brand. This past weekend, my wife and I were celebrating our 3 year wedding anniversary in the East Village, which I mentioned conversationally to the concierge upon check-in. As a way of congratulations, the Marriott employee upgraded us to their penthouse suite throughout our stay. It was thoughtful of him and we sincerely appreciated the gesture. The room was great and we loved our stay. I'm thankful to Marriott for giving their employees the decision-making authority to create memorable experiences for their customers, like us, even with the little things.

This hotel is absolutely stunning! It smells great and the rooms are very nice! Conveniently located to a lot of restaurants and shops as well as downtown night life.

Love the bar here. Great speciality drinks and the patio had great views of the city. Best place in town to watch the ICubs fireworks.

Didn't actually stay at the hotel, just stopped in their rooftop bar. It was pretty swell! Definitely a good place to check out.

Just visited the rooftop bar — a very nice alternative and addition to the DSM life and scene. Grab a drink, stay for snacks and watch the city shift from work to play.

Once you walk in, you are greeted with a very elegant ambience. The dog statues in front are spiffy, if you ask me. We went up to the rooftop bar and the view was stunning! Staff was friendly and waited on us in a timely manner for how busy they were. Very impressed overall!

The AC is a beautiful modern hotel. The room was elegant and comfortable. The staff was friendly and accomdating. Be sure to check out both bars.
