Beautiful treasure close to a very cool area, YBOR City. Would definitely stay here again. We normally stay with Hilton but came on a whim to Tampa area & everything was booked. We happened upon the Floridian Palace & are so glad we chose this one for our one night stay. Loved the historic feel & lovely decor here. Chris at the desk was also really nice & helpful.

The resturant is fantastic. We have eaten here several times and it has always been great. The food is great, service is excellent. It is quiet and a wonderful experience. On our most recent visit for dinner, the street was blocked off and access to the parking lot difficult. The entrance was blocked off and difficult tut o find. My wife fell on because you had to go out in the street and it was not m as red. We h as d made a reservation and were not warned of these challenges. Food was not up to the usual standard. Very disappointing.

Beautiful vintage hotel! Staff was very friendly & accommodating. We stayed in a king size room & it was huge! I miss the bed… sooo comfortable! Will definitely stay here when we're in town again.

The front desk clerk was filled with attitude without cause at check in. From the requesting were the parking was to paying for the room. It was quite surprising. But the bar attendant made our experience so much better! She was great and the food was amazing. All the way to getting to our room. Moving the curtains just to see the scenery to find the surprise of what looked like blood wiped down the wall hiding behind the curtain. When I told the other front desk agent. He stated he apologized for the inconvenience but nothing was done. At that point I was looking forward in checking out and NOT ever going back! I gave a 2 because of the bar attendant and the food.

Our stay was great. We only had one night at this hotel, but the room looked just like the photos. The Hotel looks marvelous on the inside, you'll miss the charm if you only judge from the outside. It's older but gives the authentic feel of a great hotel landmark.

Beautiful old hotel. It's fun to just walk around the lobby and look at the decor. Rooms are lovely. Good firm mattress. The Sapphire Lounge at the bottom floor is a nice place to get a drink. Room was a little musty before cranking on the AC, but aside from that no complaints from me.

Amazing location, very pretty, parking was super easy, staff was very nice. The bars looked very nice but we didn't visit them. The bed was too firm, but it had comfortable pillows, sheets, and blankets. The air conditioning barely worked throughout the hotel and the elevators are extremely slow. I would stay again but it would have to be for the right price.

Great ambiance. Service was good, but a bit too much for a single bartender who definitely did the best she could. Understaffed a bit. Overall, great experience.

This place is beautiful. Ornate and clearly an older style inside (in a good way! ). The Floridan is a unique venue that is very worth a visit.

The room on the 7th floor had great views and was massive. The building is old and you can tell with all the extra sounds of aging. The TV is extremely small and very far away from the bed due to the size of the room. You also don't get any sports channels except for the local stations. The bar downstairs does have some great food and the drink prices are not bad. It is a 15min walk to the Tampa convention center and to the water, so near a lot of options.

Beautifully restored 1920s hotel with a spectacularly ornate restaurant. I took several students there for lunch and had great service and a surprisingly small check, especially since the kids ordered from the children's menu. But their burgers weren't kid-sized. They were a great value, especially considering how generous the portions were.

We always love staying at the Floridan Palace. This is our third time here and we will be back. The service is excellent and they also have a beautiful restaurant where they serve some great food. Some of my favorites are their authentic Greek salad and either their French onion soup or the lobster bisque. They also serve some great sandwiches and a whole lot more. The hotel is close to museums and the Tampa Theater, as well as the river walk. We have really enjoyed it every time that we have stayed here!

I really enjoyed this hotel, it was built in 1926 so it is old but it is also beautiful and very different from the chain hotel. The restaurant on site was very good, the food was delicious and the service was A+, the service all around was the highest quality I will go back. I usually stay at another hotel when I go to the Straz but I now have a new favorite.

This is a BEAUTIFUL hotel that is located in downtown. Everything is within a 10-15 min walk. The hotel decor is impeccable and gorgeous; You feel like you've walked into the roaring 20s but you have the all the comfort and amenties of the 21 century. The restaurant is really nice, the food is presented beautifully, and the staff is super friendly. The food is moderately priced. I wouldn't say it is cheap, but it is worth every penny. The chocolate cake is SUPERB. The bar is a fun place to relax and chat. The rooms are huge and very clean. I absolutely loved staying here and the staff makes you feel like family. I would recommend this hotel to everyone!

Beautiful lobby but it kind of stops there. Sheets feel like sandpaper, pillows are cheap overstuffed poly, tiny TV with no cable attached to a side wall of the room with no ability to swivel it for proper viewing. I also came back to my room with it half clean. Towels were replaced but beds weren't made. Note: when you want to enjoy the view of that lobby with a drink you will want to get there early as the bar closed at 9pm the Wednesday night I tried. Won't be back.

The rooms were as beautiful as pictures posted online. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The vintage elegant style was a pleasure to walk into. I wish there was better parking accommodations but aside from that I was very happy overall with my experience.

We did not stay here yet, so this review is simply focused on their front desk service. First when I booked I asked about a Military rate and they did not have one, but George reduced the price of the room anyway for me. A very nice gesture. Coming close to the day of our stay, my wife started getting sick, and the Flu is rough this season. We held out hope, but morning of our stay still not much better. We just did not want to risk exposing others. I spoke with George who did not hesitate to allow me to cancel our stay at no penalty, even though their policy is greater than 24 hours (similar to most hotels). We have wanted to stay here for some time and will book again soon. Thank You George!

Positives: nice views of the city, large room, comfy bed Negatives: No cable tv, no heat when it's 40°outside, no water pressure, no iron, no hair dryer, the overhead ac dripped on me the entire night (combined with no heat = miserable & shivering), lamps didn't work, holes in the sheets, floor not vacuumed. Not a bad place, by any means, but if you need convenience and are in a hurry, probably not the place for you. The elevator is very old and cool, but very slow. No quick morning breakfast. But the old decor is fancy and vintage.

The food is always very good here. Tasty dressing on the house salad, perfectly cooked grouper and lamb. Beautiful atmosphere and furnishings. Great wait staff as well.

Phenomenal bar and restaurant! Hotel has a lot of history and a storied guest list from a bygone era. Rooms have been updated and the ghost of antiquity and charm haunts the restored lobby and halls. Also quick shout out for that bangin' ballroom ya'll!

Went with office group of 16 people for Thanksgiving luncheon at 11:30am. Restaurant was virtually empty. Half the meals came out 30 — 40 minutes later than the others. Some food orders were undercooked, some incorrect. No manager ever came out to apologize-no bills were comped or discounted. Offered only a free dessert to the last 4 meals that were served. Took over 30 minutes to complete the bill process. Tip should not have even been included with the lack of service that was provided by kitchen and wait staff. Cannot even rate at 1 star.

Definitely not a four star hotel. I expected better. It is historical which is cool, but if you want comfort you're better off at a Holiday Inn.

Rude front desk staff, loud train honking incessantly at 2:20am, no food after 10pm, outdated decor and nasty fleece blanket on the bed. Sheets were very tattered and worn and needed replaced. On the positive side, the female bartender was nice.

The Florida Palace is a great old style luxury hotel located in downtown Tampa. Quiet, large rooms with the simple eligance only a historic 1920's downtown hotel can be. At one time this building was Florida's tallest building. Check out the hotels web site with it's excellent pictures and history.

Avoid the place. As a business owner I don't post negative reviews to be spiteful. We checked in at 730pm with a reservation. No valet and parking was a block away in the rain. The room was not ready. The front desk told us 159 rooms checked out and they only had 4 cleaning people. We were headed to a show so I asked for anything. I got two twin beds for me and my wife instead of the king bedroom we reserved. The place is dated, musty, and old. Of course they only have 4 cleaning people makes sense. Reminds me of a super 8 motel but three times the price. I recommend staying at super 8. I should have told them to cancel and stayed elsewhere. Room service not available at 1130pm. My bad. Got into a fight with my wife for booking the place. Walls are thin and my neighbors noisy. They were playing the guitar and drums all night. Time is 1am and neighbors are still jamming. My wife is crying in the bathroom. No sleep tonight and work in am. Should have just cancelled and gone elsewhere after the show. So outrageous I can't make this stuff up. I'm thinking about opening the window on the 16th floor and jumping out. Don't worry. You won't miss anything. They do not serve breakfast. Good luck.

My family and I stopped by over the weekend to look at the Floridan as a possible wedding venue. While there wasn't someone there who could give us all the info, we did get to look around. And let me tell you, that place is gorgeous.

This place was well furnished and the service was great. The concierge knocked 29 bucks off our room fee! Plus the elevator is blazing fast!

A nice WWII Era hotel. Very luxurious for the time period. Rooms are open and big. The bed and linen have some improvements to be made.

Had a good time enjoying signature cocktails including the famous "between the sheets". Bartender is always super nice and helpful. Went here for a cocktail before going to a show at the Straz nearby.

Attended a work lunch at the hotel restaurant. Food was good quality, and the service was attentive and quick to assist. Our party size was huge, yet service managed to take over 30 drink and food orders with no errors or dip in quality. Excellent experience overall!

Clean rooms and a cool, historic hotel. We came on our honeymoon and were upgraded to a suite, which was really cool, but when we went into our sweet, there were other guests belongings in the room. It was really strange, and we had to go back down to get a new room. Some of the rooms/halls had strange smells. There was a beeping noise all night in the hallway. We checked in late, so there wasn't a doorman to help us with our stuff. But the location and hotel are really cool. Overall a nice stay.

The hotel is gorgeous. We loved the old-fashioned mailboxes at the front desk and the mail chute by the elevators. Our standard room was huge and beautiful, and the bed was comfortable. When we ordered room service, it came quickly, the room service server was friendly and helpful, and the food was fantastic. Our trip to the hotel bar was lovely as well. However, several small annoyances added up to knock an A stay down to a B. The room lacked a room service menu, so we had to look it up online. The hotel provides complimentary water, but they didn't have a sign to indicate whether the water was free or not. We were told room service ran from 11am-10pm, but when we wanted to order it, we were told it didn't start until 5pm. My card was authorized for roughly three times the cost of two nights' parking, which didn't make much sense since we couldn't charge restaurant/bar/room service charges to the room. Valet parking is offered, but we were never given the option of using it because there was never a valet driver on site. None of the annoyances were major issues, but some were so small I had to wonder why the hotel hadn't already addressed them.

Spent 4 nights at the Floridan Palace while in town for business. Have read a lot of the rotten reviews here, and don't necessarily disagree with some of the minor issues that have been identified e. G. TVs are small; apparently substandard room service/menu (didn't try but didn't seem appealing/easy to figure out so didn't bother) ; $100 incidentals fee charged upfront (as long as they don't charge me, who cares, whatever), and; lots of construction/loud, irritating street traffic and homeless folk begging outside (as long as they're harmless and security measures are in place, whatever). What I would like to highlight, though, are all of the positives that I noted i. E. (i) outstanding, beautifully restored hotel from the 1920's (e. G. Architecture; mail chutes near elevators — — too cool) (ii) helpful, responsive front desk staff e. G. Had a problem with my in-room safe on day 1, and an exceptional young man in a pink dress shirt (so sorry I missed the name! ) was extremely helpful in promptly fixing it himself (iii) after trouble getting a cab, both the front desk staff that day (again, missed the names, but was March 11, 2016 in the PM) and an outstanding member of the valet staff, Lazaro, were extremely helpful in trying to resolve the problem (iv) a very genuine, and very new, staff member at the bar, Luis, was extremely friendly and unpretentious — — what a refreshing change!

We met friends for drinks at the Sapphire Lounge. It is a lovely place to have a drink and chat, and has a very cool vibe. The history of the entire venue is interesting.

Had to go to the bar everytime I wanted ice… 19 floors down. Also the wayer pressure suckkkkks… overall a nice place though.

Pro: good location right in downtown, vintage feel, good service from courteous front desk attendants. Con: parking is in an adjacent lot, $15 a day to self park. Beds are hard. Room is a bit stuffy. The TV is small. Overall, for the price I was expecting a bit more, out of the room particularly. Would likely choose a less expensive, more modern accomodation away from downtown traffic for my next Tampa visit.

Booked a room with 4 friends, received a confirmation email with the rate. All set, right? Wrong They refused to honor it. But said we could book but at a rate of 200 more per person. Nothing doing, we booked at Embassy Suites. And won't return to the Floridian again. If you don't want to lose your reservations and be scammed, I sure others to do the same. Shame on you floridian, SHAME.

What a dump! We started our one night stay by refusing the first room we were given because it reeked of smoke and had only one towel for the two of us. The second room, which we accepted, had one blanket for 2 beds. We requested a mother and were told to come to the desk and get it. They didn't have anyone available to take things to guests rooms. The rooms don't have coffee makers and there are no ice machines on each floor. We attended a concert nearby, along with about 40 other hotel guests. After the concert all these patrons went back to the hotel bar where there was one bartender. There was no way the poor bartender could handle all those people! Those that didn't give up and leave waited up to 30 minutes for a drink. One lady went to the desk to ask the manager to come and help. He came but didn't help, claiming he didn't know how to make drinks. The requested drink he couldn't handle was a vodka and cranberry juice. Pretty complicated! My daughter and I walked to the arena for the concert and asked the man at the desk for directions. He sent us several blocks out of our way. I would never return to this hotel. I haven't seen a hotel without basis amenities since the 70s! Who doesn't even have a lousy 2 cup Mr. Coffee?!

On the outside, this looks like a perfectly acceptable hotel. Get into the room and it's a different story. No central air in a Florida hotel? The curtains were damp from the humidity and the room reeked of mildew. The lampshade write had rusted and stained the lampshade brown. Beds are hard as stone as well.

The restoration of this hotel building to it's former glory is amazing. It is beautiful, but if I wanted to see a well restored historic site, I could just visit a museum… Staying there was not a good experience. The inside of our bathroom door was covered in a black dusty grime. There was what appeared to be pubic hair on the floor by the toilet. No toilet paper… oh, and when we called for room service to bring some we were told we had to come down and get it ourselves. That's a first for us from a supposed 4 star hotel. The Floridian Hotel is on the run down side of downtown next to empty lots of gravel. We had a nice view of a cemetery and public housing and I could tell that this area has long been Tampa's skid row. The parking lot is too small and is also used by employees so at 12:30 am, I had to park in a poorly lit unsecured lot full of gravel and trash a block away. Then I made the fatal mistake of leaving my iPad in the room when we checked out. Goodbye iPad. The front desk assured me that they have a "very strict" policy with lost and found and they checked my room thoroughly. I left it there. It was stolen and that's a fact. Their very strict policy isn't working. The owners need to go restore some more historic sites but get the hell out of the hospitality business.

BEWARE! Be sure not to leave anything in your room because it will be STOLEN by the staff. I left my BRAND NEW very expensive shampoo and conditioner in the shower. ($30 a bottle… I received as a birthday present) I called about it and was told I didn't leave it there. 100% for sure it was left it there as I only live 30 mins away and it wasn't in my bag when I returned home. The wonderful birthday stay in the hotel was ruined by DISHONEST & LYING staff. I work in the hotel business and know people leave things everyday, the items should have been logged in to lost and found. Shame on dishonest staff members!

Fabulous journey back to the roaring twenties when you visit this grand hotel that has been totally restored. This review is only for the visit and bar area (I HAVE NOT STAYED IN FOR THE NIGHT) The lobby area has that grand feel as you enter and stroll back into a more simpler era. Located in the heart of Tampa — Downtown — and constructed in 1926, this nineteen story hotel has been brought back to all its original grandeur. Luckily it now has all the modern comforts of today. The hotel re-opened with the opening ceremony and ribbon cutting taking place on July, 2012, making the Floridan Palace, once more the “crown jewel" that it once was. My wife and I love stopping by to visit the happy hour specials in the lobby bar or more upscale Sapph Room, for us it's a hit and although not a usual stop, we certainly enjoy a stroll in from time to time to escape back to a day much different than our current times.

Reading past reviews it seems nothing has changed with the rude and unprofessional staff and poor service. I only wish my husband had read these before booking for our anniversary. We checked in with only two cars in the parking lot. Upon entering the lobby was ornate and historic looking but seemed very desolate. No staff, no guests in site other then the person at the front desk. I really wanted my stay here to be a positive experience and was still optimistic at this point. The heat and musty smell hit us like a brick wall upon entering the room, my eyes were watering and had a hard time breathing after only10 minutes of discussing weather we should leave. A/c was not working, there was a lump of something underneath the carpet that felt like a wadded up towel? We ended up checking out shortly after. Ask to speak to a manager, was told he "did not work on the weekends". No resolution was offered other than you can "Try to call on Monday and he MIGHT be here". Wow, save yourself the trouble on this one, go with Le Meridian instead, they are fabulous and have earned their stars with clean rooms, great service and friendly professional staff! To top everything off I called Monday to see about getting a refund for the night that we did not stay and was told that the manager was still not available and hung up on by the rude staff member at the front desk! The manager did call me back on Monday but also had an attitude. Would NOT Recommend this place at ALL!

Despite initial doubts due to the reviews, my wife and I stayed here, as no other hotel in the area had rooms available. Upon arrival, we were happy with how quickly and professionally Nick (if management is reading this, please reward him and make sure he stays) handled our check-in. Everybody else, including the cleaning staff, were extremely polite and professional. The room was very clean and the view was excellent. There's a free safe in the room, hangers were also available in the closet. Water-pressure and temperature were outstanding. Either the other reviews were inaccurate, or the hotel has REALLY stepped up their game.

I was very disappointed in this Hotel. Though it is a beautiful place the and looks grand the maid service was very poor, the room was only vacuumed once during our four day stay and the bed did not get made one day. When we asked the maid for another towel she told us we must go to the front desk if we want more than two. We also asked the maid for another bottle of water and was told you only get the complementary water on check in, I guess you must check out and back in for more water if you stay more than one night. The closes place to get breakfast is six blocks away with only coffee and tea in the lobby. There was a water hammer in the pipes when you tried to cut the hot water back form full on, if this keeps up they will be having pipes leaking soon. The only place to get ice was at the lounge or the front desk, 12 floors down for me. We were there for the NCAA Women’s Final Four and when we were watching the Men’s Final Four final game on Monday night they shut the lounge down at about half time and would not even keep the big screen TV on for a lounge full of people to finish the game, we had to go to our rooms and watch it on small TVs. On the plus side when I complained about water dripping from the AC and a light out they were fixed quickly. I booked this room through AAA and will send this review to them also in hopes that someone else does not have this experience. I will never stay at this hotel again and I stay at about 50 different hotels a year.

It's pretty and clean, like something out of the 1920s, but has very poor service, that's only if no service can be considered poor service. The valets have very nasty attitudes and there are no bell hops to help you with your bags. I feel sorry for disabled and elderly guests. This hotel has the potential to be a solid 4 star hotel but they need to clean house with current staff or highly encourage change in attitudes and adopt a new model for customer service.

I really wanted to give this place a chance to be better than the reviews. Alas, it just didn't make it. The beds are so firm, it was difficult to sleep. Two beds means two doubles (no queens in this hotel). There is no coffee maker in the room (and the bar downstairs isn't open in the morning LOL). The room is pretty though, I'll give you that. It would be a lot prettier if the maid service would actually make up the bed. I was here for 5 days, and the maids made the bed twice. Also, don't get in a hurry for the Internet. I would have been willing to pay for good Internet service, but it's free, slow, and often disconnects.

Pros: The room is very nice and clean, the AC works great, the parking valets are extremely nice Cons: front desk staff needs to lose the attitude, ordered room service the first night I was here, couldn't charge it to my room even though the hotel put an extra $100 hold on my CC for "incidentals" which I have no idea what it means if you can't charge room service to your room. But the worst part is the room service tray with the leftover food has been sitting in the hallway for two days. At first it was on the table in front of the elevators all day yesterday, today it has been on a table by the staff entrance to the floor. That is totally disgusting. Staff very unhelpful and I won't be staying here again. Also, no vending machines on any floors so no way to get drinks without paying premium price at the hotel bar. The manager or owner or whatever seems to be too interested in walking around in tight pants and shirt and flirting with hot girls to do his job.

BOY oh BOY do I have a review for you. I travel a lot for work and stay in A LOT of hotels. I am lucky enough to be able to book my own travel and decided to use Priceline for this trip (PS: I won't do that again, but that complaint is not for this review). I checked into the Floridan for a three night stay while traveling to Tampa for work. I was a little worried when it seemed I was the ONLY guest staying in the hotel, but l like to reserve judgment until I've actually had the experience of a stay. Unfortunately, my stay here was less than stellar — to say the least. The room I checked into had 2 queen beds. My first night there, only one of the beds had a blanket on it. Keep in mind, they both only had sheets. One bed had a fleece type blanket rolled up at the foot. I didn't want to complain as it was only me and I only need one blanket. THEN we come to the next night. When both beds had blankets. Unfortunately, they were both stained (see attached photos). I don’t know many people that like to sleep in dirty bedding with unidentifiable stains. I called the front desk and was told there was ONE blanket they could give me and I would have to come downstairs to get it. I explained after a long day at work, I was already in pajamas and really did not feel comfortable walking downstairs. I was given an excuse of “this is a family owned business. ” I’m not exactly sure how that makes dirty blankets ok.

They have the most inefficient staff and the owner is very rude. Thank God I did my research and found out, like other reviewer pointed out, just interested in your money and not customer satisfaction. Go to Le Meridien which is a block away and light years ahead of them in quality, customer service, and way more charm if you want to stay at a historic building.

Like a bad cake: just decoration, but no quality. The sight of the hotel Lobby, Bar and Restaurant are amazing, but I will say, that is all. The employees are the rudest you could find, especially the ones at the reception desk. Except the bartender and one of the maids, but if you expect friendly customer service, you will not find it here, neither breakfast, room service. The room was clean, but they didnt even had flyers of the hotel services, no coffeemaker, the safe was damaged and I noticed there was no even security. Want to workout? forget it in this place, the "gym" stinks with sweat smells, dirty towels everywhere, old weights and unsafe grounds. Free coffee in the mornings? expect a awful taste coffee in the lobby. Wanna walk around the hotel? be ready for a whole sight of homeless people and boarded windows in the neighboring buildings. Quite a different sight a few blocks away where you see a fresh Tampa downtown. To anyone traveling to Tampa and want a look into the old downtown, yes, visit the Floridian, but you wanna stay. Then stay away.

We had dinner in the Crystal Dining room last night and it was great. The service was excellent, the food was very good and I loved the dining room and seeing the renovations done to the hotel.

I travel quite a bit for work and in my personal life I don't want cookie cutter chains when I travel (unless I get bonus stays). So I stay in places like the Floridian Palace. I just got back from there and I love this hotel. It's a nice compliment to the Hotel Jacaranda in Avon Park if you like retro travelling like I do. Here's my experience: Don't listen to the GPS. Stay on Cass Ave to pull up to the check-in drive way. The lobby is impressive — very impressive. Like crystal chandeliers all over the place shining like diamonds. Hand painted reliefs on the ceiling. Check in was no problem and the staff was polite and I got my key in about 30 seconds. Room was on the 17 floor and the elevator was lightning fast getting up there. Room was good. Restored nicely with 2 double beds. Furniture was ornate with fridge. TV was to the side and not easy viewed. View from the windows — just spectacular. All functions in the room worked as it should, including my favorite, the cold A/C. My wife came down for dinner and ate in the Crystal Dining Room. We were under-dressed, but they made us feel welcome. The food was excellent and our waitress Anna provided great European service. Prices are very reasonable for this kind of experience. So I was pleased to have a elegant experience for Holiday Inn prices. A few dings — I didn't see breakfast offered. I would have paid to eat again in the dining room. I don't think a place of this calibre should offer continental breakfast.

Stayed here after a concert. Had an amazing view of downtown Tampa. Staff very friendly and helpful even provided us with takeout menus so we could order out for dinner and it was delivered straight to our room. Love the old glamour, charm and elegance of this old style 1920's hotel. Even cooler to know al cappone once stayed here to.

Would have gave this hotel 4 stars if it wasn't for the trains. It was like being in the 'My Cousin Vinnie' movie. The downtown Tampa CSX train line runs around 1:00 am and blows a 120 DB whistle at every intersection. Other than that the hotel is beautifully renovated. The rooms are spacious and clean, and staff is friendly. If you're a heavy sleeper and can sleep through train whistles, than this is the best choice in the downtown Tampa area.

Looks nice but staff is rude and unprofessional. They are obviously not in the business of making guests feel welcomed. When I called to express my concerns and look for a resolution they hung up on me! I would never stay here again or refer any of my colleagues to do business with them.
