Reviews of Freehand Miami 3*
Good service and big space.
Thank you Freehand very good hotel all the workers are very friendly the facilities are always clean.
The receptionists are very friendly especially Marshal thank you very much.
Excellent hotel near of everything.
First of all the vibe is amazing and ownership cares about you in this place, the location is sick!
Do not stay at their hotels. They do false advertising with their amenities. I booked three nights to stay at their Miami location only to discover in the evening that you had to make reservations for the outdoor seating area, that’s advertised on their site as part of the hotel, that turns into a bar around 5/6pm. Paying hotel guests didn’t take precedence and still required a reservation, with the expectation you’d order drinks. Oh, and hotel guests were only designated a certain seating area. Very poor guest experience. They didn’t refund my full booking either, after I expressed my displeasure, and left. Don’t fall for their.
50$! attention! they deposit 50$ from your credit card and it's a worst in the usa the pig-stay. Yes it's better to call it the PIG-stay because it is.
Don't expect a hot shower here and the water cold as hell here. Stuff don't care about. And BTW no kitchen and no even drinking water for people. Nothing.
Wifi is slow as crab even internet calls is impossible forget about it forget about a watching the videos or music by Wi-Fi in the hostel/hotel/PIG-stay.
They don't care about you when you waiting for check in or out. And worker of the hotel will always explain you how he/she don't care about you and your situation and any of your problem because they really don't care. They was never educated for this. And it's expensive as hell after all so they ask money but do worst service that you can have ever. They here to take your money that's all. We deserve better hospitality here in Miami. So don't be afraid of them and don't be polite with this people becose and if they don't.
It was sweet…
My family and I rented a bungalow for a four day weekend and have the BEST time. The hotel was accommodating and such a cool hangout. Each night, the wedding party and their friends came by to drink at the Broken Shaker. The hotel is close to the beach, within walking distance of many restaurants/bars/activities/places to shop, and the hotel itself (! ) is a fab hangout. 10/10 would stay here again.
Julia was very helpful and made sure our stay was smooth. I recommend Freehand Miami for its proximity to the ocean and great service, polite and awesome staff.
I was kicked out at 3 am in the morning because they assumed I was associated with a guy who'd been kicked out. They were rude, didn't allow me any reason, and didn't let me explain any side of what happened. They even had the police escort me out! Do not stay here, unless you want to risk what's happened to at least 20 + people before because of security guards on power trips. In the end a manager apologized to me, gave me back my money (which they were not going to in the beginning) but when I asked about returning — just for the fact that I live in miami and don't want to be rejected from any place my friends might hangout at I got another manager — Rachel who told me it was 'out of their good all I got my money back' for a week and a half I wouldn't have stayed there after I was kicked out. Ive never been treated like this before, with such disrespect and violation of the simple right to speak to a manager at the time of it happening — the security guard said " im the manager" which was a lie.
This place is so amazing, you have to give it a try. I’ve been two years in a row and refuse to go anywhere else. Thanks for the great atmosphere! It’s such a great mix of family, singles, couples, businessmen. The diversity is incredible and fun.
Great vibe. Pool. Restaurant. Bar. Great stafg. We booked a 4 persons family room with private bathroom. We loved it. Free breakfast and coffee. Free Wi-Fi and drinkingwater. Room with A/C. Around the corner free trolley busses. Shepard coffeeroom, great coffees, lattes and croissant.
I've stayed at Freehand Miami on 3 occasions, twice in the quads and once in a king suite; and each stay has better than the next. Great location, walking distance from South Beach and Ocean Drive. Great amenities, friendly staff, amazing ambiance and awesome mixologists at the Broken Shaker. My next reservation is already booked.
The best ho (s) tel we've have ever been. 1000% recommendation. Pretty room, great bars and pool, nice evenings with your service and drinks every night (& fancy music.
My daughter and granddaughter stayed at The Freehand for 3 glorious nights. We had the opportunity to meet Ms. Allie Singer, who is the director of sales. She was just fabulous, down to earth kind of gal. She gave us several suggestions to make our trip more enjoyable (if that's possible)! Thank you to the Freehand for such lovely surroundings, kind and friendly staff. Would we come again? You betcha!
Amazing place to teach yoga at! super grateful to work with such a great team and be able to create a strong community of like minded people from all over the world.
Was there for a Wedding, my Grandson & his beautiful Bride, the Hotel and Pool area and the Broken Shaker Bar Club, all so accommodations were awesome, for the Barringer Wedding, and much more loved it all,
The Freehand is a cool, young, hip budget accommodation. The Freehand hotels have nice food and beverage outlets and this location is no exception. They have a great restaurant and bar scene by the pool. The service was great and I would like to come back and stay to check out the rooms.
I give the hotel 4 stars simply because it’s a unique place with good prices for rooms. Has some fun amenities like a pool, bar and restaurant attached, free bikes for private rooms, and a cold brew station plus more. We stayed in a private king room It was very quiet in our room and bed was decently comfy. Overall it was a good stay and we would recommend for someone needing to be in mid beach. Negative was it’s a good 10-15 minute drive to south beach, however you can take the free bikes which is nice. Areas of improvement: better restocking of towels and tolietries from housekeeping, area to hang the towels (they just place them on the back of the toilet lid), our room had an odd smell to it when entering. You didn’t notice it much when Inside but maybe is coming from air conditioner unit. The unit was slightly noisy but didn’t stop me from sleeping well. The bar attached to the hotel is extremely pricey. Probably our most expensive drink while vacationing in Miami.
What a gem of a place. For the price you get a fantastic service and facilities. We got one of the apartments which was very spacious and the beds were surprisingly very comfortable. The outdoor pool area has a real laid back hippie vibe with chilled music and great seating a lounge areas. The beds next to the pool are not so easy to get and you generally have to wait for them as they are always taken. The fact that non hotel guests can just walk off the street and use them probably doesn't help. This place has a restaurant and bar on site, both of which are fantastic. The restaurant food was outstanding and we were served by a guy called McKenzie. He was super informative and extremely friendly. An asset to the place. Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone.
Local love it! great spot to chill! after gettin salty.
The best place I ever stay if I could give you milion star I wish to give really amazing place with great people Thx to you guys I met many New friends and felt like home like I was just Born here since long agoooo Thank you for amazing time and surely as I said I will be back sooooooon
Have a lovely days stay Cool sending you all my power and energy and a Lot of super Cool New happy guests
P. S. Am checking dates already to come back.
I had such an amazing stay at Freehand Miami. Conveniently located one street away from the beach, clean rooms, super cool atmosphere with great music, a bar and restaurant. Perfect vibe. And most of all amazing staff, Brittney remembered my complicated name :) ) (Raluca), she was always so friendly and helpful and making me feel like home. Will come back again and again, thank you!
This one of my favorite hotels to go to when I go back to Miami to visit. They have an amazing restaurant and bar at the hotel. Both are always popping. You don't even need to leave the hotel premises to explore Miami Beach. You are tucked away into a magical compound with amazing grounds. Very hipster vibe. Remember it is a hostel/hotel. I recommend the suites there, its an apartment vibe. I love it. Definitely recommend Freehand.
For the French looking for a nice corner I recommend it is super exotic women are to delight and receptionists especially Annick (Niçoise) are at the top. The little evenings are falling on the floor. The only problem is a lack of communication regarding the events as well as the happy hours are depling. Thanks to all and soon for the French people in search of a nice corner (place) I recommend it is great different the women are to be delighted and the desk clerks in particular Annick (inhabitant of Nice) are at the top. The small evenings are outstanding. Only snag a lack of communication concerning the events as well as happy hours are to be regretted (to regret). Thanks to all and see you soon.
Best hostel I could do. With an outdoor chill, pool and excellent cocktails! I recommend!
It is very quiet and respect a lot is very familiar what I like the most is around its pool a lot of nature.
We booked a bungalow (living room, kitchen, fridge, four beds), and when we checked in they put us in the wrong room which was just 4 beds, no fridge and no kitchen. When we talked to them the next day, they explained there was construction and no more bungalows available, but never emailed us or told us before hand, and the guy who checked us in never even told us he was putting us in the wrong room. I'm assuming they never told us about construction because they wanted to keep our business. They only reason we stayed here was for the kitchen to save money on grocery bills while we were attending a music festival. We ended up having to buy a cooler and ice in order to keep a very small amount of drinks cold, but couldn't keep any food, and we ended up having to eat out for nearly every meal paying a lot of extra money. They refunded the difference of the rooms, and gave us "$100" worth of free drink coupons as compensation, but we went to the bar a whole 2 hours before closing, and all they could give us was 6 terrible beers worth probably $6. They said the bar was closing early due to bad business, and refused to make us any cocktails. The extra cost of food ended up being so much more than the value of this compensation. On one occasion housekeeping left our door open the entire time we left for the music festival, but thankfully nobody came in and stole all of our stuff. All we got was a "sorry about that".
Party, hostel with pool. Dormitory rooms for 4, 6, 8 people. Breakfast OK. The first night my bed in the room for 4 people. She was busy. Had to sleep there where 8 people. Only for a couple of nights. The rooms are relatively clean, there are lockers for things you need to have your hinged lock. But there fit only not a big backpack. Near the beach about 7 min walk.
I will happily come back to Freehand. Everyone was very helpful especially Luis! The place is clean, fun and stylish. You are sharing the room with people so make sure you have an open mind and some patience and you will have a good time!
Great hostel. South Beach. But there are no Russians in it.
I spent $200 on a room for one night. Ended up cancelling the morning AFTER the deadline because my grandma was having heart issues and our plans had change. This hotel refused a refund. I understand their policies but traveling from Ohio and having plans change suddenly should have been an exception. I’m very disappointed.
Great service and drinks. The place was setup nice and clean. Would definitely recommend going here for some craft cocktails. Beer selection is a bit lacking.
The hotel bar is a classic in Miami Beach, and they reflect it with their drinks and ambiance. Totally recommended if you are visiting, just have planned that the parking in the area is scarce but well worth it.
Unbeatable rate, cocktail by the pool amazing!
What an awesome place to stay. Very eclectically decorated. Extremely comfortable bed and linens. Awesome courtyard social area. Great a/c as well.
We were in room with private bathroom. Excellent location two blocks from the beach, supermarket to the street and bus stop half a block. Very friendly at reception, especially fights that is Argentinian and speaks Spanish. Minimal breakfast and with little space.
It's a five star bar (the Broken shaker, truly great place to have a drink at), but accommodation is just barely ok. Bed was big and comfortable, but the room (nr 4, king suite, definitely not the one from the official hotel pictures) was dark and the two ac machines were making noises like small aircraft taking off every few minutes. The breakfast was also something they shouldn't brag about being included: we just saw toast and a butter selection. Come for the drinks in Broken shaker after dark and enjoy the good music, excellent cocktails and atmosphere. Book accommodation somewhere else.
Beautiful hostel atmosphere. Very clean facilities, the patio and the pool the best of the hostel. The Wi-Fi inside works very well. Recommended!
Well located, young place. Nice bar.
Modern remodeling. Basic breakfast, but good. Clean, proper care. No inconvenience or unpleasant surprises.
Beautiful hostel, ultra comfortable beds, lots of rooms in the bedrooms, very basic breakfast but sufficient. The outside with the pool is very cosy however huge problems for the bathrooms (showers leaking, toilet clogged and no aeration to drain moisture, our bathroom was a sauna)
For this reasonably priced the location is just great, the ambiance of the hotel and the bar just a dream. However, the rooms are also cheap. For one to two nights OK but for more not.
This place has an Instagram-ready mid-century modern vibe that's straight out of Madmen or a Wes Anderson flick. The attention to detail in the decor is astounding. Unfortunately, in the private rooms at least, the grittiness (broken toilet roll and a 10+ minute wait for hot shower water in the bathroom, dirty bare floors, persistent residue of cigarette smoke, etc) outweighed the cool factor.
Good room, comfortable beds, good sector good hambientes, good breakfast, but the attention is bad, they are rude especially the women, bad to make the toilet to the pieces.
The 4-bed rooms are old, lamps, lockers, air conditioners are very slow, usually not repaired. Constantly high humidity, young people are put on a room with old pensioners.
The front desk is mostly friendly and helpful, and the location and bar is top!
But the service should be improved urgently.
Comfortable room in a great location for exploring Miami Beach. Easy to find and staff were very helpful, including when I was locked out of my room…! Breakfast is basic but good and the Broken Shaker downstairs is a great place to start or end the evening. I would stay here again if I come back to Miami Beach.
I was very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Good service from the staff. Excellent atmosphere and facilities. Only the price is not very comfortable for people who are looking for hostel.
The bar at the garden has a delicious boho 60s vibe. The drinks and the food are tasty, affordable, the staff is sweet and you can take your time to appreciate the ambience, play board games and see cool people without rush. One thing: come early to avoid busy hours when its super crowed.
Clean bedrooms and bathrooms, the backyard with the pool super cute. The building itself is old type, but it stays well.
Nice place. Comfortable beds, clean. Very good to meet people.
So much potential, but so disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. The facilities are pretty and the building was historic and charming but the rooms were run down and dirty. The website is really deceiving! We had to ask for top sheets which when we got them were all ripped. The room was stinky and musty and generally grubby. Our first room was above the bar which was noisy, we changed rooms and were promised it would be better which it wasn't and we woke up to realize the smoke detector was missing from the ceiling. The bar had a good atmosphere in the evening so if you think you've fallen in love with this hotel like I did, go for a cocktail and do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.
Excellent availability, local a little ' dated to modernize.
Really great meal. Totally enjoyed it. Food was excellent. Drinks were fantastic. Highly recommend.
For a young herb top. As a hotel concern.
We had a private kingsize room. The room facilities were perfectly fine. The location of the hotel was also good. Only one block away from the beach. We liked the atmosphere. We could park for $10 a day. Criticism… Rooms were not perfectly clean and with the rooms facing the courtyard you can hear the music until after midnight. Overall but 4 stars due to price/performance.
Excellent place good vibes, relaxed, attention and courtesy. Close to everything, convenient, fair price.
As a hostel has level. Note that each bunk has its own plugs and lamp and being cloistered give a certain intimacy and does not disturb other customers.
Very close to the beach and 15-20 min. Walk from the center. Spacious rooms with bathroom inside. Lockers also inside the room. Large area with garden patio with swimming pool. Of the best I've ever seen. Cleanliness is the only thing that leaves something to be desired.
This hotel/hostel is AMAZING. My group of friends and I came from Tampa, FL on a mini road trip to stay the weekend in Miami Beach. We previously booked a hotel down the strip, but we had such a horrible experience, we had to leave. There were no hotels with vacancy. Finally, after hours searching, Freehand was able to book a private room for the four of us. The room had 4 bunk beds. Our own bathroom. I was hesitant at first to even stay at a hostel due to previous stories I've heard, but honestly, after such a great time this weekend, I without a doubt would love to stay there again. The staff was super friendly. The pool area was so nice and relaxing. Plus the food and drinks were delicious. It was not expensive, especially for being in Miami. Thank you for saving our girls trip from being a complete disaster!
Dirty and old rooms. The windows don't open, but there is air conditioning. If you come to good neighbors then you can live)
I was really surprised at how nice everything is and it's a really affordable place. The place was clean and for the most part quiet. There were a few cosmetic issues but overall a great place to stay on a budget. Also you're not in some weird seedy area which is nice.
Very very good hostel! Good vibes and impeccable!
I really like this place. The aesthetic is amazing. Very comfortable here. Good food and drinks. Chilling by the pool was nice. I for sure recommend it.
Really cute and out of the ordinary.
I had an excellent stay with two friends at Freehand Miami, it honestly was our favorite part of a 4 night excursion. The minute we walked in we were greeted by the warm, pleasant staff who continued to be so throughout our stay. They've got a great vibe with pleasant tropical and upbeat music all around the place, two fantastic bars (do not miss out on the 2nd floor bar! ) and comfortable accommodations. Our 4 bunk room was fun! Towels, lamps, small tables and chairs made it feel like a nice budget suite and we had a blast even just hanging out in the room. Plus breakfast and happy hours were a nice touch. They're right by the beach, a few grocery stores, a decent dive bar (CoCo's Nest), rental bikes, and easy Uber rides to elsewhere in town. I kinda fell in love with this spot, highly recommend!
We were extremely satisfied. Friendly, competent and lots of cool extras.
Freehand worth it. Amazing hostel, friendly & helpful staff, well located, super clean, incredible atmosphere with a mega cool pool, a great bar with delicious cocktails, chilling music. Best place in South Beach to meet people from all around the world. Can't wait to come back!
Good location, nice/sweet hostel, partly something to come in the years, but still absolutely acceptable. The staff is very nice. Breakfast is included in the price and also absolutely OK, nothing special but sufficient!
The ambiance is great. Candle lit lobby and amazing outdoor area. At night, the vibe is sexy — lush tropical gardens surrounding the pool, artisan cocktails, hanging lights and candles make this the perfect backdrop to have drinks with friends or your sweetheart. Definitely a vibe. The rooms are clean & spacious. They are generous with the towels and linen. Great staff and a surprisingly nice restaurant. I recomend the brunch. I will definitely be back.
Such a fun and down to earth vibe in this laid back backyard bar. Lounge by the pool with a cocktail or play some jenga with your friends over special punch. Always a good time…!
Overall GREAT experience! The place is clean and offers a breakfast by the pool. The gentleman from Venezuela at the front counter was attractive and knowledgeable explaining about the coffeebar in the mornings. The other guests were also really fun and friendly. They have a piano and bar in the lobby also! Check it out! Only $20!
Great hosts And staff. Beautiful grounds. The pool and guest lounge are amazing. Free Breakfast and happy hour are a perk. Literally, cross the street and the beach is there! Will definitely use again.
Aperitif time and for the evening drink a drink is beautiful.
I came here on a Wednesday night to catch up with a friend over a few drinks. We went to Broken Shaker for a round and then to 27 Restaurant for some more drinks and food. Both places take their mixology seriously and provided us with some delicious "Bartender's Special" drinks. The service was great in both places as well. I will definitely be back.
Nice hostel in quieter part of Miami away from South Beach area but still an easy 30 minute walk away. Hostel is close to Miami beach and has a nice pool and outdoor bar area at the hostel. Enjoyed the free cup of whiskey punch every day. Kitchen a bit small and cramped but adequate. 4 bed dorm big and clean, a bit dark but still good for a hostel. Would stay here again.
Hotel was ok, basic and clean and with chill ambience by the pool and bar. Customer service SUCKS though: after my stay in a private room, I checked my credit card statement and I was charged for stuff I did not take from the mini-bar. That could be a simple mistake but then these people are impossible to reach and fix the issue. Tried to reach the front desk by phone several days and got no answer ever. Left voice mails and e-mails… nobody ever got back to me. I will stop trying since my time is more valuable than a few bucks from whatever they say I took. I've been reading some other reviews and it seems it's not the first time they do this. Freehand Miami people: learn to do a simple inventory properly! Fellow travelers: do the mini-bar inventory yourself and ensure your billing is final and correct. Decent stay but very unprofessional staff in terms of customer service/billing.
Very good location The rooms are very nice Pool. More access to the kitchen around 9pm. Good location.
Place for young backpackers and nothing more.
This hostel was absolutely gorgeous. My favourite were the evenings when the lobby and entire outside were lit by candlelight and strings of chunky porch lights. I made a lot of friends lounging around and the vibe is perfect for anyone in their mid-twenties and up (I traveled alone and had a great time! ). The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The bunk rooms were nice and cleaned daily. It takes only around 20 mins on one bus to get there directly from airport. Located by a main street and free trolley stop. The only thing I didn't enjoy was having to take my food to a special area reserved for hostel guests, away from the pool. The food and drinks are fairly expensive (yet lovely! ) which makes it difficult to always order from their menu if you'd like to sit by the pool. I can understand this policy in the evenings when many locals come in to enjoy drinks, but perhaps there could be an exception during the daytime.
Only souvenirs at Freehand Miami! This hostel is a bit more expensive than the others in South Beach, and a little off center.
The hostel and hotel part are in the same building; We share the bar, the courtyard and the lobby. Basically, you just have different rooms and a common kitchen that is located outside the main building, where adventurers can make food.
First of all, I love the decoration, it feels like home, but your home is better.
The room was OK, in the end it depends on who you share it with.
Breakfast was good; The courtyard is nice, with its stools and armchairs and lanterns, the bar is cool and the pool is awesome, with top art works.
The shared kitchen is great, I would like to have the same at home.
I took part in the Yoga course on the beach which was awesome, and apparently you can also rent some nice bikes.
I would definitely book here if I came back to Miami!
I've been to many hotels around the US, but Freehand blew my mind, amazing atmosphere, awesome design, great, friendly and very helpful customer service. I recommend it to everyone who is looking for something different and interesting :)
Tl;dr: Good resort, terrible customer service I stayed at the Freehand with my girlfriend over this previous weekend for a staycation. We stayed for 3 days and, although the weather was bad (it was raining the entire time), we still managed to have a good time. We stayed in one of the private rooms that was comfortable and had a bohemian feel to it. The Broken Shaker (the attached bar) has a great atmosphere and interesting drinks. We went to 27 (the associated restaurant) on our first night and had a fantastic experience overall. When our entrees took longer than expected to be prepared, the staff apologized profusely and provided us with a complimentary appetizer and 2 shots. Unfortunately, the hostel staff could take a lesson from the restaurant staff in terms of customer service when I later noticed a charge on my credit card that I couldn't account for. I called and emailed without getting a response. Their phone service instructs you to leave a message and states that someone will call you back in 24 hours. However, I was never contacted. When I was finally able to reach the Freehand staff after repeated phone calls, I was told that I was charged for 4 items from the minibar (we never touched it during our stay). I wanted to dispute the charge but was told that only the call center can address this issue during the week and to call back on Monday. This is a service industry. What sort of customer service is this?
Affordable king suites in a busy, bustling popular hotel. Met several locals in the cocktail bar (great bartenders and excellent cocktails) that go regularly. The restaurant was hit and miss, delicious starter and my friend's main was lovely, but my kimchi fried rice was soggy (though it was flavour packed) and didn't have many ingredients.
Best place for young people in Miami if you don't want to waste your money and still enjoy your nights! Hostel with great services and reasonable prices, only flaw is that cleanness could be improved.
I highly recommend this hostel. They have a really good continental breakfast, bkes to rent (or free for the first hour), free beach towels, deck chairs and coolers for the beach. There's a large outside area with a pool and a bar. They have a basic kitchen. The 4 person dorm was roomy and well organised with a lamp and 3 power points per bed. And you are about a 2 min walk to a really nice beach, a median sized superstore and bus stops. I've previously paid more money for hostels that offered a lot less.
Great place to stay in Miami. The Staff was accommodating and helped us in whatever way needed. Parking in the area is very busy but they give you an overnight pass for 10 bucks which is cheaper than paying the meter. Very cool atmosphere! The continental breakfast was nothing to write home about but the location is in walking distance of great restaurants.
For the price you can't really beat it. Not to mention the bar downstairs "Broken Shaker" is really cool. A block from the beach and just and all around good vibe.
This hostel is very friendly and the most of the guest are around 30's, and the pool has events all days with music, food and nice people, the only thing if you're a female and traveling alone, the beach location is not one of the safest around Miami — a lot of homeless, drunk and strange guys looking around, but overall if you want a comfortable bed, noise room and meet nice people, that's the hostel! Oh yeah they have a amazing breakfast include, Wi-Fi all over the place, and the restaurant is amazing! Good food and little expansive but worth, so many cool people!
I stayed at The Freehand Miami for a week in January 2015. This hostel was the nicest one I've stayed in and since then I've stayed in two other hostels and both times had said I wished I was at the Freehand. The bedrooms were clean, and only 8 to a room. Quite pleasant compared to 10 and 12! Their breakfast was about the same as a typical continental breakfast. Pretty satisfying; fresh fruit, milk, juice, coffee, cereal, etc. Pool outback is nice, and the patio is huge. Helps with the bar the second half of the week. They have a kitchen, a piano in the lobby, and pretty damn good matresses with a decent blanket. There were two bathrooms in the room I had, full size lockers. Guess what? I'm checking out of the above mentioned second hostel and into the Freehand.
The place is as advertised. You have a room with a locker and bathroom. It's also coed so don't be surprised if there's a girl I your room. I like how each beds have a charger right next to you, that's like a most for me and I'm sure for most of you too. They have breakfast each morning from 8-10, that's pretty good for a hostel. Obviously the location is convenient since it's right next to Ocean Avenue with endless bars and restaurants next to the beach. Overall, this place is nice.
Sky-rocketing prices, moderate hygiene, events that promote begin in any different to the programmed schedule, one of the receptionists was extremely rude when I asked him for information about the city. The patio and the bar of drinks is good but $12 is a short drink too.
Awesome. Even with a dorm awesome. Always again.
Our first trip to Miami, stayed our first three nights at the hostel in a private room. Immediately regretted it. As a social 30 year old the idea of staying so close to a speakeasy/restaurant sounded enticing, but we quickly realized that sleeping there is impossible. People were loud, drunk, and screaming outside our door all night and all morning. We paid $200 a night after taxes/fees and in my opinion you're better off spending that money on a nice hotel and visiting the broken shaker for happy hour. We didn't like our drinks or the food or the staff, but some people rave about it. It's the hipster place to go in Miami. The outdoor patio is great, but don't expect "craft" cocktails or warm and friendly staff.
I'm a local and stayed here for a few days. The bungalow was cozy and the pool was refreshing on a hot summer Miami afternoon. The service is on point and you get to meet so many interesting people from all over the world!
A community feel in an environment that cares. Friendly staff who work hard to keep the entire property looking it's best. Free breakfast and laying by the pool is a great way to start any beautiful Miami day.
Great place and location.
Impossible to park around… When I managed to get to the lobby I learned that my girlfriend and I were about to sleep in a dorm with 2 other people. I guess it's normal for this kind of place, but since I used hotwire to book this room I was expecting a room, not a dorm. Since I didn't find a place to park I left to get to a hotel. Management shouldn't have use hotwire for dorms! No refund possible…
I have stayed in a few Miami hostels over the years, and I found this one really takes the cake. Really nice hostel in a really nice location in Miami Beach. While it's not in the Historic Art Deco District, the hostel is close enough to walk to it, and the building is in beautiful Art Deco hotel style, so that makes up for it! Around the back of the hostel, there is a strip of restaurants, shops, and bars, so if you need supplies they are just around the corner. Their breakfast was really nice, large selection of fruit, cereals, and jams. It was constantly replinshed by the cleaners, which was good. With the cleaners working at breakfast time, they constantly spoke Spanish among themselves in front of the guests. I felt they should be talking in English, when doing the breakfast (when cleaning the rooms, they can speak Japanese for all I care :) ). The room I was in was large, spacious enough, and comfortable with aircon. The beds were comfortable and clean. I found my room generally well maintained, but the bedside power sockets didn't work, and I don't think other bedside sockets worked either. But no biggy. I liked that you could drink your own alcohol in your room, and the guest kitchen despite a bar on the premises (nice compromise). However, I didn't find the bar that great, or really add much to the hostel atmosphere. In fact, I felt it detracted the hostel atmosphere. I also disliked the service charge automatically added on my bill.
The first thing: it's not easy to find a parking lot and valet is $20 which you have to pay to be in the ambience of a hostel. The only upside are the cocktails which are quite good and apparently change every month. If this bar was somewhere else and the bartenders would wear nice vests it would be a winner.
Spectacular Hotel for the adventurous spirit, good price and a block from the beach great!
Decent hostel, a little far from ocean drive. Beds are comfy, area is clean.
Very good hotel, good value for money! All the staff are very friendly and helpful.
Even though it was a little outdated, my stay was the best here in Miami. It was very cheap. I also got to meet people from all over the world, Canada, England, Switzerland, Germany, Argentina, France, you name it. The staff here were friendly and courteous. The Broken Shaker was a big party area which was relaxing by the pool. This is definitely a must stay if you are willing to go to Miami on a budget. Not only you sleep with a mix dorm room style bed, but I met people from all over the world and from all walks of life! Totally Recommend this.
Didn't try the hostel but the Broken Shaker is a must — chill-out, laid-back atmosphere in a beautiful tropical patio by the pool. Renowned for its cocktails and music.
Very nice hostel, &beautiful rooms! Toop.
What a fantastic, fun place. Eclectic. Hippies, college kids, bikers, suits. All playing together on harmony.
The hostel is located in a quite area away from south beach. Feels more like a hotel than hostel because the crowd here was less about chatting up with others and more about doing their own things. I didn't get the hostel vibe from this place. They have a nice bar and pool area outside, but it was filled with rich locals. The staff was most definitely rude, even for Miami standards. I am rating it 3 starts because the rooms were clean, free (shitty) Wi-Fi and quite location, but I would not recommend this place as a hostel.
I would agree with one of the last reviews. The people here are rude. They have gotten to comfortable with the high profits margins and have stated to forget what they do. This was of my favorite places. I am sad to see the way things are changing. When I fist moved to Miami a year ago I stayed here and loved it. This time I was traveling around Brazil for 34 days and returned to find my roommate trying to take over my apartment. I though I would let things cool down and stay at the broken shaker. They told me I could not stay because I had already stayed 14 days 6 months ago. And that I could come back in 6 months. I have taken many people here and some nights spent $100 on drinks for my friends. I understand that they have certain guidelines to follow but the way they did it was rude and almost acted like it was funny. They also acted like I should be excited about staying in 6 months! haha NOT.
It might be Nice but once you check in and have few things Missing deserve No Star what so ever but I still have to give star to post this and i'm still in here will see what goes Next October 28/2014.
The Freehand is a gem, but it does have its downsides. Upsides — The rooms are very clean and well maintained, towels are changed everyday without fail. The patio area has a swimming pool, a dining area, 2 small bars and lots of chairs around, it's very nice. Every day and night music is played in the patio area until 2am, which I like and it didn't disturb my sleep at all. There were 2 air conditioning units in my super 8 dorm, so I could sleep without sweating at all. The crowd is older (30+) so you can meet interesting people and people you can learn a lot from, as I did. Decent location, go to the Cuban cafe across the road, you can get a huge, delicious meal for $8. Downsides — There's hardly any young people so not as fun. Very cliquey, because most people go there with their group of friends and don't socialise with anyone else. Only 2 of the staff members were friendly to me, the rest were just a bunch of stuck up tossers and bitches. Food and drinks are expensive, I paid $4 for a glass of cranberry juice. Verdict — If you are a young person, traveling alone and want to meet other young people, this is not the best place. If you are traveling with your friends or family, stay here because the decor is lovely, it's clean, it's chill, it's safe — it's one of the best hostels in Miami.
This hostel is the most amazing accommodation I have ever booked. It is not the typical loudness and glamour that Miami stands for but it is a hostel that pays attention to every detail. Furniture, Music in the backyard, food — everything works together perfectly well. Additionally is the bar in the garden a real insider's typ — beautiful lighting and plants. People are from all over the world an really nice. The atmosphere is simply great.
Good price. Suitable for the adventurous spirit. Clean. With all the services.
The former hotel is an historical address, staff friendly, rooms clean, and every day a full cleaning service. However breakfast is beyond the pale, purchased mostly sweet-filled puff pastry, no cereals, but fresh fruit, no washing machines for guests, Wi-Fi free of charge but mau data throughput. Because it's former hotel rooms it will be morning eng in the bathroom. Do you mean: it is occupied by a guest who must wait another, there are no alternatives.
