Really lovely staff and cute little hotel. Rooms were clean with shared toilet and shower. The building is quite old but totally comfortable. In a good location for getting around.

Used the bag check out via bagbnb. With a flat 6 dollar amount it was a great value!

Staff was very courteous and helpful. Room was nice and clean. If I were to have any suggestion about improving the stay for future guests I would say to possibly add a small refrigerator and microwave to the rooms. Other than that it was a very nice stay.

The staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful, the room was nice and the bed was comfy, I walked everywhere, but there is a bus stop out side, also plenty of food place near by.

We (two young girls) arrived this evening and were thoroughly disappointed at the hotel. To start off the area around the hotel was quite dangerous, there were drug deals and drunk people smashing bottles and people sleeping on the sidewalk. The parking was off site and was also quite sketchy. The pictures of the hotel were not a clear representation of what the hotel actually was. The hotel looked like a brothel and as two young girls we felt very unsafe. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone. The hotel had an immediate smell of urine and cigarettes upon entry. I cannot reinforce enough that the hotel was in a very dangerous end of SanFran and drug deals were happening close by. We also noticed bedbugs without even opening the bed. We actually left within 30 minutes due to feeling very unsafe. The staff at the hotel were also not friendly or helpful.

The rooms are very nicely furnished and the staff was very nice. However, we had a room with a communal shower and toilet. That pushed me to my limits personally. The water in the shower was freezing cold even after a long wait. It was all clean … But still, for us, no longer an option for the future. The location of the hotel was also borderline. In the evening, one should no longer walk unaccompanied at the door. A multi-storey car park is inconliquely opposed for a fee. The bowl must be handed in there in the multi-storey car park.

The location was easy to find and the people behind the desk are very friendly and helpful.

Room is ok. Ages for hot water. Shared toilets and bathrooms are poor and the whole place needs refurbishing. Location is a touch doggy but not too far from the centre. No AC and only a few TV channels in room. $30 for parking. Ok for an overnight stay.

When we arrived the staff greeted us and check-in was a breeze and we got to our room. Room was what we expected, small, cozy, shared bathrooms. The shower was really, really cold because it was large room that had window open 24/7 and it was bit cold outside. You had to wait for the water to get warm and it was not the best experience. Bathrooms were okay. The room had walls that were literally paper thin, so if noises bother you, remember to bring ear plugs. I also did not understand why the windows in the aisles were kept open 24/7 when it was 10 degrees celcius outside. Overall it was okay experience, but the coldness and bad shower really did have a negative effect on our stay. But for the price, it was really good.

Good location, rooms were small but clean — shared bathroom facilities, and the shower never seemed to get hot. Friendly staff, but at $100 a night, I'd hoped for a little more.

Nice and clean. Safe. Very good service. And free Wi-Fi. That why I always stay at Luz hotel.

Cramped rooms. No view. Smell not really pleasant. Suitable for those looking for a place for the overnight stay only.

Ok location. The room was way too small for three people. There was no place to put your suitcases and other belongings. The floor was tilted and the room had a bit wierd smell. Shared bathroom and shower. The staff was very friendly.

If there is a confidentiality that hotel's are supposed to abide by this one doesn't. I speak from my stay a couple years back. From my perspective now I will have to say it has changed… for the better for sure. Really friendly staff.

Very very nice stay. I got into SF late and needed a room last minute. Luz was very friendly and helpful with the room and finding me parking. Very much felt like a bed n breakfast. As a former front desk worker I would say this is a great place to stay in SF. After all, you can not beat the rate. Slept like a rock, great stay.

If you're looking to spend ~$100 a night and be in central San Francisco, you have to accept your choices will be limited. A Luz hotel provides a relatively decent location, well situated for the busy Polk street and Union Square, a really comfy bed, and helpful staff. In a front facing room the noise was actually acceptable, save for buses and garbage trucks (the latter unfortunately seemed to me a couple of stops one night). Ultimately, if you want a cheap guest house to stay in I can't complain, it compares evenly with guest houses I've stayed in in both the UK and Germany. However you have to be ready for out of date decor and a single shower for each floor, so do decide whether you might want to spend twice as much to stay in a more upscale hotel.

Good location, room was clean but I had a broken window, it was summer so it didn't really matter but I wonder if it would get cold in winter, same for the shared bathroom. The walls are very thin, you can hear people talking in the opposite room separated by a corridor.

A cozy and picturesque hotel located near all the main attractions of San Francisco. I recommend it!

I stayed at Luz for four nights and didn't have any problems really. The rooms are a bit small but decent for the price and location. There are two bathrooms that are shared by all the rented rooms on the first floor; they were clean and I didn't have a problem getting one when I needed. The shower was different; there is only one for all the guests and I had to wait my turn a few times. Note: give the shower 4-5 minutes to warm up and then it's nice. I was in room three, which is near the front, and you can hear the voices from street. Ask for a room closer to back if possible. Also the bed dips in the middle so that was a bit uncomfortable. I can't attest to another traveler's comments about bed bugs because I brought my own sheet and slept on top of the duvet. I will say that nothing seemed wrong with my stay. The staff were super friendly and helpful. If you're traveling from/to the airport, the hotel can call a shuttle for $17, much cheaper than a taxi.

No hot water. No service after office hour. No tap water in restroom. Room with smell.

A very small Hotel right in the heart of downtown. In the mind of the Owner cleanliness and guest satisfaction is the number one goal. You don't see workers here in uniform but inside there heart one thing is uniformed Guest satisfaction. They don't have room service or valet parking. You don't need it just step outside the hotel and you are surrounded by restaurant and local small stores, parking is all over the place. (and don't forget those services cost money and added to the cost of the room) If you are thinking that San Francisco is a vacation that is expensive because of Hotel room well think of Luz hotel rooms are lot cheaper than those 3 or 4 star hotel.

Inexpensive for San Francisco, good location, room very comfortable and very well received.

I stayed there at the there Last month The room was clean @ the Price of $75 dollars a night couldnt beat at that price in San Francsico. I recommend it to my friends and I will stay there again when I come back to San Francisco.

I've known the owner of this hotel since he bought the place. It is and always will be the place I stay in SF. Service is great for a residential hotel and you can't beat the rates.

This place was awful. Would never stay here nor would I recommend for anyone else to. When we got there the room smelled like urine. We decided to overlook it a it was a low price, but then we noticed: Holes in the sheets, junkies in the building, no seat guards for the shared toilet, a bio-hazardous needle receptacle in the bathroom, and to top it all off, when we were about to got to sleep, roaches. We left that night and still had to fight for a partial refund even after the poor conditions.
