The staff was friendly but that didn't make up for the place's dysfunctions. I was upgraded to a suite which was a very nice gesture but I realised very quickly this might have been to soften the blow of the smell in the room (s). Let me explain, as soon as I walked into my room, I was hit by a smell so strong I got a headache after 10 minutes. It was so bad I slept with the window open even though the traffic below was very loud. The staff were nice and sent someone up with a spray but this just masked the smell and didn't make it any better. The next morning I was given the choice of a different room but unfortunately, the smell was in that room too. The person who showed me the room admitted they were aware a bad was smell coming from the air con and they had renovated the hotel hoping it would go away. Clearly it didn't. The smell was blamed on the fact the building is pretty old (although compared to European building it really isnt). I moved after that first night to a hotel in a building as old but where there is no bad smell. Poor excuse if you ask. Me. I also tried room service and breakfast, both were terrible from a food perspective. I ordered avocado and egg on toast for breakfast and they managed to forget the avocado! The bread was very hard and the whole thing unseasoned and really not good. My 8 years old cooks better eggs. Overall a total disappointment however I was treated very well and the staff were nice, only looked like they heard my story too many times before…
