The ubication is good, the price is really cheap. The hostel can be more clean.

The staff was super friendly but the amenities was not as I hoped but for the money still worth it!

Good localation, crazy reception at night on top of the building. Knock on the door if it is close. Two different building for rooms.

Had a horrible experience. Owner did not have room for us, send us to another place. Turned out to be an empty hotel. We got a phone number from some guy who wanted to place us in his apartment away from the city. At 00:00 hours I finally got a hold of the owner of the hostel. I demanded him to come back and give us a proper room. He said he couldn’t, apparently overbooked. Only option was money back. I took it, but if would have preferred to have had this option before walking 60 minutes trough a city I just arrived in and did not know. Thankfully there was a very nice hostel up the road that had a room for us (even though the first guy kept saying all was booked! ) Needless to say, not a great place for us!

Very very bad without warm water.

Please be careful when booking a room at Istikal Oldcity hostel! We had a terrible experience at this accommodation. We booked a couple of days is advanced a private double ensuite room for four nights. The pictures looked really nice, the location was supposed to be superb! We arrived after 30 hours of traveling around 6.30 pm at the hostel. Strangely enough there was nobody at the reception. We tried to call, but nobody was answering. We waited for about 1, 5 hours at the lovely roofterrace, getting excited about staying here. Then the manager Drowan finally arrived. Without apologising he took a copy of our passports and made us pay the remaining amount. All set he then told us our room was in another building and a young boy would bring us there. With our heavy backpacks we walked about twenty (! ) minutes to a dark alley far away from the superb location we aimed for. We where dropped at another hostel, which had no space for us either. So they send us to — what they called — a really good hotel. "Much better than the hostel. " Although we really wanted to sleep in a hostel, we accepted it for the night. But then we got to hotel. It turned out to be a deserted hotel, with no reception, no aircon and no space between the bed and the walls. When we went for a little walk we saw some random boy entering the hotel. Anyone could just walk in, since we were the only guests and there was no receptionist. We didn't want to stay there, so we called Drowan.

Location, cleanliness, attention, absolute comfort. The best place to stay in Istanbul. Thank you Dodo!

Cheap hostel with the best location in the City centre.

An over rated hostel. Location is great but too many con artists stayed in this area targeting tourists. Drom is located in the 4th floor. No guard no door for this hostel. Everyone can just come in to your room. Waited more than 1 hour to meet the staff and check in. And staff tend to making jokes or staying"relax"to avoid answering some basic questions. When I asked about renewing my stays, staff asks way higher prices than hostel world. Are you kidding? Also they probably will not give you change. Btw, Rooftop is great for meet other backpackers.

An absolute recommendation! Close to center, nice host, great breakfast, great atmosphere.

Unbeatable location, and the best possible attention, an unbeatable price, make this hostel the best option if you visit Istanbul. We're going to be delighted.
