Maasai Hostel Tanzania

Best place to stay in Arusha when you're going on a Safari, plan to climb Mt Meru or you're just looking for a good affordable place near the airport.
Swahiba, the host, set us up with everything we needed: storage, tours, jackets, laundry… He even got my gf phone fixed while we were away! You can book tours and safaris through him for fair prices and support local companies.
The room was spotless and had an ensuite bathroom with Western toilet and hot shower. The area felt more or less safe and was super quiet. I slept like a baby!

The place is a bit far from everything but is quite and clean. The owners are easy going and nice. There were some water problems but they really tried to fix it :)
Unfortunately we've booked a safari through the hostel and the organization and communication was really lacking. We had the feeling he just called some acquaintances to drive us around, no professional guides, no communication about the exact route on advance or even during the safari. We were really disappointed considering we really saved up for this trip.

Positive: The Maasai Hostel was a great place to stay one night. The owner is very kind and nice with hosts. I recommend this place. Negative: The place is a bit far of the main city. But you know that before booking, so it is more a quiet place to chill than a place to go out and enjoy the city.

Positive: If you're searching for something different in Arusha, that's the place to be! Swahiba is a great host and really cares about his volunteers living there and his guests. We felt very comfortable and it was easy to get to know the other people there. We had a great time. He also offers different tours on the weekends.

Positive: My sister and I have been 11 days in the hostel. We felt like home. Nice and clean room, hot shower and good staff. Nice breakfast also, and if you want you can cook your own food. Swahiba, the best host ever. We had so nice moments with him! He took care of us, we went party together, we did tours, we did bbq for dinner… Best place to stay in Arusha! Asante sana Swahiba! 😊.

Positive: We first stay for one night and finally we book two more : the place is clean, comfortable and quiet. Swahiba, the owner, is really really nice : we had good conversations and we really enjoy to share moments with him! The breakfast is perfect and we had as well diner twice in this place, it was so good! We also had the chance to meet Chikili (Swahiba’s girlfriend) who is as nice as he is! A really good moments with them both at Maasai Hostel!.

You really want to be a little away from the center of Arusha. In Maasai Hostel, I felt like at home. I used this location as a base for my 3 day Safari. I was able to leave all my stuff here safely, and I was received, both times I checked in, with delicious meals, clean room and hot shower.
Swahiba and Chikili are great hosts. They helped me sort my vaccine problem, my laundry, and my safari, even thou I went with another agency. All meals served in the hostel are delicious. I only had to mention that I was addicted to avocados, and I got it served every day at breakfast. They offered me transport from the airport, every time I went into town, and then also to Moshi.
At first I was worried about the distance to the center. But then I quickly realized I preferred this quiet location instead. Arusha is crazy, and this hostel is just 15 minutes away by motorcycle. Safaris do pick you up from here as well.
All and all, this is an excellent hostel. Value added is that, by staying here, you will be supporting this lovely young entrepreneur couple.

To stay at Maasai hostel was the best choice. Swahiba, the owner of the place is a really nice person making us feeling at home, showing us what we should do. It didn't felt like an foreing tourist, but a local tourism getting to know all the people around the place, and to feel the warmth and kindness of the people.
