Loved absolutely everything about this hotel! The location is perfect, walking distance to tons of shops, restaurants, waterfront, and the train station. The hotel restaurant was great, and our room was beautiful! We stayed in a suite that had a huge balcony overlooking Luzern and the surrounding mountains, the view was amazing. The staff here are so friendly and accommodating. Next time we are in Luzern we will definitely stay here again!

Couldn’t have found a better hotel! Everyone was so friendly not to mention we were in the center of the old village! Views were incredible from our balcony! Food was amazing here! Thanks to Chelo (one of the restaurants mgrs) and the great staff in the reception area who kindly mailed my postcards.

Truly wonderful hotel on the river in historic downtown Lucerne. Convenient location to every thing you would want to do. Has AC! Beautiful building, outstanding staff and restaurant. Incredible value for money.

We are on night three of four nights in this gorgeous little gem and recommend it highly! Elegantly designed and very comfortable. Although in a 15th century building, the accommodations are very modern. Great staff, amenities and the best location in Lucerne.

Visited it in 2011 with my family when I was 10 years old. These two pictures are all I remember from Switzerland. I remember that I loved Switzerland, its weather, its people, and even its cute dogs on the streets. Also one of my ugliest and most embarrassing memories of Switzerland is when I threw up in front of people in some restaurant on top of some mountain ⛰. Well it appeared that it was because I ate some bad food the night before. I think I’m not in the subject, so sorry to waste your time and here it is: I remember that this was a really nice hotel, a classic one, with spacious rooms and great view of the lake (I forgot its name). Also, this is a really expensive hotel, but I think it’s worth every penny. PS: Careful for the birds while having your breakfast cause they will eat without an invitation.

Wonderful hotel in the heart of the old town❤️ Beautiful rooms — we did splurge and had a suite overlooking the water but wow one of those magical moments. Restaurant excellent and again with a beautiful terrace overlooking the water and city.

Clean and tidy rooms, the river view is really fantastic. Lucerne has a great atmosphere and is very peaceful. Great location, close to the station but quiet.

Rooms very different — times bigger, sometimes smaller, sometimes to the river, sometimes to the old town. Bad, too, diverges a lot. I've been a regular for years. Breakfast very good. Staff very friendly.

Former City Hall… and other things… this is a top of the line hotel. Great rooms, restaurant, and if you can get a room with a balcony on the river, do not hesitate. The square on which it is located has a great craft market on Saturdays. It’s all that you would expect of a hotel of this caliber.

A wonderful hotel in the heart of Lucerne. The historic building with frescoes on the walls and the gourmet restaurant is impressive. Everything is very dignified.

I went back for the fourth time to this hotel because as a traveller, I find it hard to get a good hotel, great service, a great location and a great kitchen all in the same place.
Add a breathtaking view and you will understand why I come back here.

Great location. Service is great. Front desk extremely helpful. Rooms are very nice, great view over the river. Bring earplugs if you like to sleep in the AM… church bells galore.

The room itself was beautiful, but one of the beds in the room was an AIR MATTRESS! You might expect this in a hostel, but not in a hotel like this. It kept deflating.

My wife and I were married in September 2017 and decided to honeymoon in Switzerland. What a great decision that turned out to be. We traveled to Interlaken, Lucerne and Zurich. We found Lucerne to be wonderful place to explore and visit and the Hotel Des Balances was a superb choice of hotel. The Hotel Des Balances staff knew we were newlyweds and made our stay completely perfect. We checked in with friendly associate and as we made our way to the room, we found a flow…ered covered heart hanging on the door. We entered the room and saw that the staff sprinkled rose petals on the bed and refreshment waiting for us. Our stay was very Romantic, enjoyable, the rooms were perfect and the city was an explorers dream. My wife and I would like to thank the staff and everyone that works at the hotel for helping make a great memory of our lives together. We will back, hopefully soon.

Centrally located on the river Reuss overlooking the lake, Swiss quality and prices, but is it always worth me.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights in early March. It is located conveniently within 10 min walking distance of train station. Beautiful view. We booked the Romantic suit on first floor with balcony overlooking the river. The weather was a bit cold but we still used the balcony. You cannot ask for a more beautiful scenery. The staff are very friendly and helpful giving you recommendations and instructions on how to get to places. The rooms are very clean exactly as shown on the website. The room service was unbelievably quick every time we asked for something they were by our door within a minute. There are lots of cafes and shops around. We will definitely choose this hotel if we come back to Luzern.

The most beautiful city hotel of Lucerne directly on the Reuss and in the middle of the old town.
Be sure to visit the bar directly on the river. Great drinks great wine list excellent food.
The breakfast buffet is very special with small excellent appetizers.

I am there at their restaurant. 43chf for a quick lunch. Definitely worth every cents. The fish is very fresh n tasty. The duck liver is yummy and the surprise dessert makes my day. Keep up the good job.

Beautiful hotel in every point of view. Very comfortable and neat room, superb view of the river and the mythical bridge of Lucerne. Ideal location in the old town, 10 ' walk from the train station. The staff were very friendly. Finally one of the places where we stay with great pleasure in Lucerne.

Location is outstanding. The bedding is pretty good. Service is also pretty good. The decoration is interesting, somewhat unique. The view of the Jesuite church across the river is very beautiful. The only drawback we found was that the rooms don't have AC. We enjoyed our stay and would be glad to stay here again.

Went there to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday 1May2017. The normal service was great. Staffs were nice. Food were excellent. Asked for a candle over her cake. Got a nice surprise. Will come back.

Great hotel. Above our expectations. Absolutely awesome desk staff. I usually figure everything out before trips but the desk staff steered us to a couple of restaurants that weren't on my radar and ended up being terrific. Hotel is in great location, clean, our rooms were big, small but adequate balcony with amazing view and good value for Europe standards. Breakfast eggs with cheese awesome. Be sure to ask different pricing for bkfast or you will pay for entire $32 feast even if you need less.

This is an AMAZING hotel! The staff is spectacular. We were treated like royalty when we walked in. The location is absolutely perfect. Clean, well appointed rooms. Get a river view and be ready to take in the beauty. The espresso/coffee maker in the room, so nice. And the restaurant. We've traveled he world and found this to be one of the most amazing dining experiences we've had. As a wine professional, I can say the wine list is top, top notch. We will absolutely return.

An amazing hotel. The staff are extremely friendly without being overbearing. Our room was one with a river view and came with everything we needed and more. The location is superb, allowing us to go out and come back multiple times a day. I can absolutely recommend this hotel for short or long stays.

The location is excellent.

Short version: I went for drinks before dinner and it was amazing. This place made me regret having a reservation somewhere else. Definitely must visit. We showed up and the friendly staff pointed us to where we could find some room for an aperitif. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. Staff always waving a smile. The place was busy but nobody seemed to be waiting much. The decoration is modern and the lighting in the evening was perfect. The bar faces the river. Cocktails were executed with perfection. Kudos to the bar staff. Will return if I set my foot again in the area.

Wonderful in every way. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The seasonal hospitality cocktail is very nice! Our river-view double room is spacious and has a fantastic view over the river, the famous Kapell bridge, and the Jesuitenkiruche (church) on the riverband. Highly recommend to stay at Hotel Des Balances.

Was a very nice weekend. The hotel is really very beautiful on the river of Reuss. But the hotel has been lovingly designed and decorated. Rivaled the staff about nothing, very friendly and always strive. Yes and the breakfast is a dream, so a day begins with a well-being. The hotel can only further recommend and Lucerne is always a trip.

We really enjoyed this hotel on the river Reuss. We ate on the covered patio as swans and ducks swam below looking for food thrown by the guests. We were treated to am alphorn concert performed next to the church across the river as we dined in the evening, We had a pleasant balcony room. The back (front of the hotel) ihas a lovely painted facade. It is easy to walk through the old town surrounding the hotel. The old city walls are not too far. Well located and a quality property.

My family of 4 stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in their Suite Room. It was huge! There's no air-conditioning in this hotel but luckily during our stay the weather was cooling and can by quite cold at night with our windows open. So there's no issue there for us. The bathroom was amazing — huge whirlpool tub and the steam/massage/shower was perfect after a day's out exploring the lovely Luzern. Only downside is with the reception. I was told that I've been upgraded for my stay during check-in and that the extra bed for my kid is free. However, upon check-out, they charged me for the extra bed. The reception kept saying there's no logic in them upgrading my stay by giving me free extra bed but after I made a fuss, they refunded the extra bed costs to me. We were not impressed by the so called Swiss hospitality at all. Apart from that glitch, our stay in Luzern was perfect!

We just loved Hotel des Balances. We spent three nights there with three rooms. The suite and junior suite were fantastic really 5 stars. The double room on the 4th floor was not up to the same standards. The location is just perfect and the water view, bar and restaurant were terrific. We will definitely be staying here again. It is centrally located to everything. Five Stars for sure!

For 5 years my family and I have stayed at Des Balances during the Zaubersee Festival in the heart of the Old City of Luzern. The view from the very comfortable rooms overlooking the river to the spires of the Lutheran Church and the peak of Pilatus behind are unbeatable. So is the service. From the front desk to the restaurant and the bar, the staff aim to bring you what you need before you know you need it — the sign of a first-class hotel!

I performed a great deal of research prior to booking the room at Hotel Des Balances. With all of the descriptions and advertising for the Hotel you are never sure until you arrive to experience the room and location first hand. We believe based on the location this Hotel rates superior amongst most all of the hotels in Lucerne. You could always find some small issue with any stay but overall we had great weather and a great experience at Hotel Des Balances. I would rebook this hotel without question for a future trip. PS: The staff, especially the front desk employees were extremely professional and very helpful when needed.

The view was incredible, the room was clean and comfortable. The placement was great with close distance to all of old town and the trains. The staff here were always pleasant and very very helpful.

Very good hotel of high-class, benefits and quality of the impeccable service, just like brunch in the morning at en 32. — for residents of the hotel (en 39 — otherwise).
Stayed at half price as part of the subscription card: en 195. — the night for 2 in a small room under the roof, which was a good quality-price ratio; However the full price of en 390. — for the same small room seems really excessive!

The hotel boasts of its beautiful view of the river, the chapel and the bridge. The hotel was really generous to my request for a river view room as my wife and I were on our honeymoon. The room was really spacious, and had all the amenities we needed to make our stay such a memorable one. The hotel even gave us a free drink at their really posh looking and feel pub, and my wife even received a small silver pendant from the jewellery shop across the hotel. It may be rather costly but it was definitely worth every cent staying at this wonderful and grand hotel. Thanks to the entire team at Hotel Des Balances for making our stay there a beautiful and memorable time in Lucerne.

The hotel boast one of the best location in Lucerne's Old Town. The hotel is restoring itself to the glorious properly explained in the booklet both available at the reception desk and in the room with a very cool postcard to post from the post office which is some 10 mins walking away. The room are decorated nostalgically chic and luxe (read luxury). At hall next to the reception area and the lounge both are cosy with an accessible terrace to view or a cuppa coffee by the river side. The staff was helpful and friendly. Go on, experience Lucerne Old Town and double it by staying at Des Balance.

The room was too small for us. The hair dryer didn't work. The adapters were not good so we had to ask for exchanging a new one. Thanks so much to the reception for the helps that they gave.

Great Hotel right in the old town of Lucerne. Room for the river Reuss with a view of the Chapel bridge and the Jesuit Church, awesome. The Service of the house is perfect. Necessarily in Restaurant reservations and the amazing creations of chef A. Fluri enjoy. Unfortunately, blow up the prices for wines at home any ideas. However, a Hotel of the first class. Rooms in Top condition, at the height of the time. Well worth a visit is guaranteed. The location on the lake, the old town and the train station is awesome. Besser gehts nicht!
