It certainly isn't 4 star hotel.
At reception you are greeted by personnel without a smile or kindness. One must and cannot check in before 3 pm, quite fair. Arriving at the hotel at 1530 and there room was not finished cleaning.
There was the dust in several places.
The room was too small to be 4 stars. The TV didn't work, the shower head was leaking and couldn't hold its own. Breakfast from 7:30, however, was only ready from 8am by a very inexperienced "waiter"

Poor service and poor style! An average hotel in a reasonable location. However, it draws down the overall experience when you have prepaid for breakfast and that 2 out of 3 days is no breakfast for all the guests. I contacted the front desk and so did other guests — they asked for our room number and I thought they would refund the amount paid. But have heard nothing from the hotel or management. The front desk admitted that they have had problems with their suppliers, but why should we pay and be “pubished” for that. The good part was the penthouse room with a amazing view and next to that — we love Amsterdam. By the way it’s a bit strange that our review is hidden at TripAdvisor despite that we received confirmation for this review.

Stayed here s few times great location and staff very helpful can't understand half of the bad reviews. You can't please everybody. Stay make your own mind up you won't be disappointed. 10/10

Spending time in Amsterdam is amazing and this location, while a 20 min walk to the train station is walking distance to all of the city you need. Its close to the canal routes and trams so you can easily get to the attractions you want. The neighborhood has excellent food, bar and coffee shop options in one block. Grocery and convenience stores same block. We stayed in the penthouse with a lovely balcony and chairs to enjoy the sun. The King bed is comfortable and the room nicely furnished. The bathroom has a huge soaker tub, made me seek out some bathsalts! Much bigger than most Danish hotel rooms and bathrooms I've stayed in before.

Only stayed here for one night and we spent most of it in the city, however the reception was lovely and the room was nice enough. Beds were large and comfortable. Bottles of water were provided free of charge and to top up the mini fridge the prices were extremely reasonable. Depending on what you are looking for the price was a bit expensive per night, especially as you're a bit far out from the center, however the transport system in Amsterdam is perfect for getting back and forth. Would I stay here again? Purely for the distance from most things, probably not, however was a lovely hotel.

There were mouse traps in the bedrooms. When we complained, the manager offered us another room which also had two mouse traps in it. We then asked for a refund which we did not receive as the manager claimed that the mouse traps were only a "precaution". We checked out as quickly as we could. I found the hotel bedrooms to be extremely small and also very smelly. The manager was quite rude and even walked away when we were voicing our concerns about the mouse traps. Overall I think this hotel has a very low standard. It's absolutely appalling to expect your guests to stay in a hotel that is likely to have a serious vermin infestation.

Location is excellent within a 15 min walk to the museums area (Van Gogh’s, Rijksmuseum, Modern art). There are restaurants, cafes, a convenience store and gym around. I would describe the rooms as luxury college rooms, space is limited but manageable. For someone who is going out exploring all day and at the hotel just for the night, this is a perfect option.

A fine hotel in a good location. Nothing less that you would expect and no hidden surprises.

I have been trying to get my booking confirmation information from this hotel to ensure that I have two rooms booked but their lousy customer service person will not give me the information that I need. I tried to explain to them that I don't remember what agency that I booked with which is very unfortunate but they should still have my booking information. Before I could even get through to a customer service person, I was hung up on 3 times! I don't recommend this hotel!

Very rude lady of the reception on the phone, I was asking a question regarding cancellation policy of an existing reservation of today 22/05 but I needed to look it up myself on Expedia. (? ) When I finally got the right answer (very simple question: is the rate prepaid/non refundable? ) she told me "I needed to ask the right questions" and hung up the phone. Result: guests immediately cancelled the reservation at Downtown and stayed somewhere else. Very rude and unprofessional.

I stayed in a penthouse, which came with a terrace, the room and the terrace had a really good ambience, but the service was veryyy bad, everyday I get up in the morning and request the front desk for some sugar and coffee powder, they tell me to go all the way to the ground floor and get it, because they don't have people to do the job, in a *4 STAR* hotelll. The room cleaning people are really kind hearted they clean the room very very welll they even fold your clothes to make the room look neat, the toilet is good except for the service the room is good and the cleaning done by them is really on point, but if you need something like coffee powder or anything from down, they are gonna make you go all the way down, so overall I think if you really don't care about the service and want a good stay with good features and gestures this is a right place to goo. But again no coffeee powders to your room, you'll have to go downnn.

Easy access to the trams and buses, friendly helpful staff, very clean facilities. And good restaurants nearby. Will definitely come back.

Friendly staff, good location. It allows you to visit the city on foot for the good walkers. Simple breakfast.

Lovely clean rooms and had a huge balcony/terrace. The staff were helpful and friendly. Would love to stay here again when I visit. Best location too.

Friendly welcome. Room on the ground floor getting used to (you can see very well in the outside, special windows would be good), ventilation only via air conditioning, bed very soft and deep, bathroom small and water did not run off in the shower. But very clean.
Breakfast OK and everything fresh. Also very friendly staff.
Parking: Underground parking €25 per night plus €50 card deposit. Was not mentioned before.
Location very central with many local and bars in the immediate vicinity.

Decent hotel. Isn't mentioned anywhere on site that rooms can be located on ground floor. So when I was told I had a 'view' I didn't realise it would be of a brick wall behind the hotel. Breakfast was slightly disappointing. Not a huge selection. All of the reception staff were absolutely lovely and helpful, especially smiley lady who greeted me when I arrived. I think the hotel layout should be made clearer on the website so you're aware of the possible view!

Great location just out of central Amsterdam, great walking distance to the centre. Lovely room, very clean, comfy beds, good Wi-Fi, excellent reception service. Had breakfast in the hotel which was delicious, overall an excellent experience and will definitely be going back again one day. Thanks GHD for a brilliant stay.

A great hotel, nice roof terrace room with views over Amsterdam. Only let down was our room wasn't ready at 1500 as it should have been, we had to wait nearly an hour. Otherwise excellent location within easy walking distance of the city centre.

Not sure how this hotel is 4star. Rooms are nice but don't expect any frills. Everything else is lacking. Breakfast is average. All of the reception staff were lovely and helpful until my last day when a man was very rude to me at reception. I travel to Amsterdam a lot and will not stay here again as a result. You can find much better quality for the same price elsewhere.

Would give less than 1 if possible. Disgusting room. Was refused a room change and refund. Checked out, forfitting further nights stay and found another hotel. Do not stay here!

Our room smelt of faeces. We arrived at 9pm very tired from 24hrs of flights and this was disgusting, told staff who then came to inspect, they said it was a known problem with the a/c system causing the smell. There solution was spraying some toilet scent to mask this. Asked to move rooms but was told it was full. Asked the next day for a refund and told we’d have to speak to the manager, except the manager wouldnt be in until maybe after 1pm and would have to wait until then. We shortly after checked out, forfitting our further nights stay and found another hotel. Also the shower floods the bathroom. Would give 0 stars if possible. Do not stay here!

The hotel's room was very small but was not a big deal to be honest. The bathroom is also quite small but with all the utilities and very clean. There isn't much space for clothes and for us that stayed a week was a bit of a problem. The location is 20 minutes walking to the city centre so not so bad.

Lovely place. The Wi-Fi is decent, the room was well priced and modern and more importantly extremely clean. If I am to return to Amsterdam again I would definitely be using this hotel. The area is great, lots of trams to get you in and out of the city in minutes. Staff great, everything has surpassed expectations.

They have very affordable prices for a 4 star hotel. Nice rooms, everything what you need. But they are tiny) overall there was the best mattress I ever slept on. I was sleeping like a baby.

Hotel staff were great and were very accommodating of using luggage storage and bathrooms before check in. Rooms were clean and modern, although a little small. In nice location with lots of nice cafes and restaurants nearby.

We are here now. Arrived yesterday. Same room, penthouse suite, as we had on our 1st time here. Love the views. To have the terrace for New Years eve is worth the money. Spectacular firework views, even tho was a foggy night.
Rooms are lovely. Good quality furnishings. Maid came even on Sunday, New years Day!
My only only niggle would be milk for tea. Coffee creamer is provided. Doesn't go well with Tea!
Its our 29th wedding anniversary tomorrow. Looking forward to spending another night here.

I would never go back. We got there and the Room was full in cobwebs, I went and told them and yes we was moved rooms but this was as bad, there was nothing stocked in the fridge, the remote didn't work, we had no menu also the screaming kids kicking footballs around outside did not help! They forgot room service which I ordered I had to ring up and remind them! I was overall disappointed I had saved and spent so much money! I had two payments taken off my card which is still not back in my account been advised to wait up to 3 weeks! Also my bottle of Rosè wine was stolen when the cleaners went in then I was told they didn't find anything and they didn't seem to even care and made me out to be a lier! I would not stay here again. I would however advised Citizen M Amsterdam amazing hotel!

My wife and I totally enjoyed our stay in one of the penthouse suites, the views from the terrace were stunning, even in the rain! The hotel is in a perfect location for the best of Amsterdam, with Vondel park and the LeidsepleinAmsterdam only a 5 min walk, and the museum district just 10 min away. The local area has some lovely restaurants of all kinds, and everything is a bit calmer than further into the city centre. We highly recommend you give it a try!

Great rooms, with comfy beds. Great location, not far from city center and lots of attractions in both directions. AC can be bit noisy though, but can be turned off or lowered. Due note there is a 10% city tax.

I really liked this hotel. It is right near a tram stop to take you to the old town, the staff are friendly and the room was clean. Their buffet breakfast wasn't too big however it was good.

We enjoyed our stay here a lot. After going into the middle of Amsterdam we really loved this hotels location was not there. It was in a relaxed, quaint part of Amsterdam city, just on the edge of the main canals but far enough away from the tourist traps, crowds and partying. You can still get to those things but you can also escape whenever you have had enough. There were lots of little cafes, restaurants and parks nearby. The room itself was not very large but it was very modern and clean. The is also Wi-Fi in the room.

All hotel rooms are situated on the ground floor and it therefore has some pedestrians running over next to his bed. The breakfast was very small and there was no choice except for some small hard rolls and Müsli. It's worth a 4 star for me. It deserves no more like 3 stars. The rooms are clean and the staff quite friendly.

My husband and I stayed in the penthouse. The room had a strong sewage gas Oder. Someone should have known right from the start and should have NOT have that room booked. The room was dusty (I'm allergic to dust) the headboard had mold and the refrigerator was not getting cold. I took pictures! My husband called the receptionist right away and they said there was nothing that they could do until the morning. My husband wanted to talk to the manager but the manager is not available on the weekends which is ridiculous because a manager at any hotel should be available 24/7! The receptionist said there was nothing they could do until the morning. They said they would bring a plumber to check it out. That night my husband and I went out and bought candles to get rid of the smell. It didn't really help! It made me so sick! The strong Oder. I'm actually sick now nauseous fatigued and a high fewer. Well my husband called the next morning at 8:30am to see when the plumber was coming… 5 minutes later we get a knock at the door from the housekeeper. She put some white balls into the shower drainage. I took pictures of that as well. Then my husband and I get ready to leave early so the "plumber" can do whatever they needed to do. We left the hotel at 9am and got back at 5:30pm. Yuck the smell was still there. Of course my husband was upset and so was I so he called the front desk and told them we have been gone for a very long time in order for someone to fix the sewage gas leakage.

Very good hotel, not so far from the city center. Also good breakfast.
