Hostal Zócalo Hostel

I met this hostel 5 years ago… it was an excellent place, super high energy and top notch service, the owner always super friendly, chatty and always in the best disposition.
return in March this year (2021) there were many improvements in terms of the place, a nice restaurant where guests could also receive our breakfast, nice terrace, etc… but in terms of customer service much to be desired, the waiter always in a bad mood very bad his service, we did not even know who the new owner was, the vibe totally different. I think that everything is changing and evolving but why change that good vibe that distinguished them so much from which I was delighted. It gave me nostalgia but that's the way it is.

A really good hostel with great live music on the rooftop, and a fantastic included breakfast…

It is a very nice place, they allow pets, it is located in the mere center so it is very accessible, it does not have a striking entrance or very large so people do not know it, at the top they have a restaurant in which the food is spectacular, to my charm they have a very rich seasoning, and the staff is very friendly.
I highly recommend it and the restaurant even more

The best place… The staff were very friendly and helpful. Without hesitation I return to this place and hopefully it will be very soon! 100 out of 100! I mean the hostel I didn't have had the pleasure of going to the restaurant when I went I still didn't have that concept.

A stay here allows you to move to almost any place without any problem. Its location allows you to be part of the activities that Merida has to the and the visitors, which gives you many extra points. The reception is great, the atmosphere is friendly and the breakfast is excellent. Not without leaving of side, the amount of people who you can meet from different parts of the world.

The highlights of this hostel is the locations, as it's across the Grand plaza right in the middle of everything. The staff was amazing, and let me come in with my dog Loki. Also gave me a small discount due to money issues, but am very pleased with this hostal. Price are extremely cheap, and roms are the private rooms are small but nice.

This excellently well located, the staff is very friendly (Gift Jesus gives the best tours, ask for the at the hostel) breakfast is very complete, the best experience, thank you very much, hope to return soon!

An excellent deal, breakfast is great and you feel like you are in your house, and at the entrance is a boy who prepares some cakes very rich, regards the child I loved his talk♀️

That is a very nice place to have a rest more than anything because aand kindness in the people who work there I am very laid hold of all over the place.

We were not respected by the reservation, we were "pleased" to assign another room but more expensive, extremely noisy, people drinking in the common areas late at night. Please ask the staff to turn the volume down and they ignored it. The worst lodging experience I've ever had in my life. By the way. Room lacks tiles.

I think if you are searching for a central place to stay in Merida, you cannot get any better deal than Zocalo. Its literally on the main square of Merida. On. One hand side you have the government palace, on the other the municipal palace and also the cathedral on the right. From many of the rooms you get a direct view, and you can even sit on the terrasse and look at the pedestrians. I think the most impressive BREAKFAST I had in 6 months in Yucatan and Chiapas. Comfortable beds. The owner or receptionist are quite slow or stoned… dont know which of these two, but they finally get you a room, if its available. Good deal, so be patient!

Hostal Zócalo has an excellent location as it is located in the city centre opposite the Zócalo Square. The staff are attentive and friendly looking to make you feel like family. They offer single and shared room services, a breakfast in the mornings, Wi-Fi with good reception in most areas.

The rooms and beds are super clean and the locals make you feel comfortable and welcome from the first instant. The location is unbeatable as it is on foot from the Zocalo of Mérida and the rates are most affordable.

Place 100% recommending, good location a quiet atmosphere and very attentive staff if you need anything they are there to orient you in addition to being very friendly, I would definitely stay there again!

I stayed 7 nights at Hostal Zocalo. Since I arrived I felt welcome and comfortable.
What I liked the most was the awesome breakfast. A table full of fruits, fresh coffee, cereals and eggs prepared individually. This along with the environment; Good-looking people, fresh air in the building and a sky view was the best thing I could pass in Merida.
Apart from breakfast, I thoroughly enjoyed the patio with the plants and ceiling with a phenomenal view towards the cathedral and the sunrise…

Been here many times now. Great Hostel, the staff is always very helpful and friendly. Everything is very clean. On top you get probably the best breakfast you can find in a Hostel. Another plus is that the Hostel is located right at the Main Plaza in Mérida.

Very good location in the center of Merida. Comfortable rooms and very quiet.

Very good service and very rich breakfast and is an old house and very rich download and support you with information on places you mmmmmmmmmmm know or na know how to get very well all.

Cost 250 single bed The bathroom is outside only I did not have hot water when I was owner is very friendly and teaches you how to occupy everything in the kitchen a beautiful terrace the truth for the price is very good.

Some private rooms have a great view of Plaza Grande. The Wi-Fi isn't that good and we only had cold water. Breakfast was good tho.

At those prices could reform the bathrooms that instead of doors have shower curtains. But the showers do have doors…
Very well equipped kitchen area and comfortable beds (very close together) but still did not convince me not obstsnte its centric position.
Finally, when I stayed, I seemed to be in Germany as the 75% of the guests was from there.
I'm sorry, but I won't be back.

No one can not complain about breakfast! It was the best hostel breakfast I have ever had in mexico! Lots of fruits and eggs! Clean room and best location in Central Merida! I always recommend this hostel if some one has a plan to go to Mérida.

I Would Say This is an excellent place to stay, they include the full breakfast, it is well located and they also let my pet stay at no extra charge!

Good experience of travel in Merida, prices very accessible and location unparalleled, I stayed 2 nights there, good service and kindness, in my case had an inconvenience with the registration however it is not reason Oara to lose 5 stars, as long as you evaluate price, Place and quality.

Breakfast was ok but otherwise it was overpriced! We paid MXP380 for a private room with shared bathrooms, no towels were provided, room was too small you could hardly move about and the male toilets didn't have doors but only shower curtains! This is one of those cases where once a place is listed in certain travel guides, their prices go up and the quality goes down!

This place is awesome. Not only for it's perfect location and historic architecture — but for the wonderful crew with a sincere dedication to hospitality. This has become my home away from home whenever my travels bring me to Merida. Romantic evenings on a balcony overlooking the Central Park with mariaches or bands playing below and the towers of the cathedral glowing above the tree tops. On Sundays the park is bustling with a market selling all things Yucatecos. And the marcado is in walking distance. So much to see and do in walking distance or bus, from plays and dancing to dining and shopping, beaches, pyramids, and cenotes, museums. It feels like being in the center of the world! The casual and relaxed, family style of hospitality here warms my heart and keeps me coming back. And check out their art collection too.

Good hostel, perfect location, very nice staff, delicious breakfast, good Wi-Fi, reasonable prices (350 pesos for a double room with a bathroom incl. Taxes). One small deficit: the rooms are partly only separated by mosqito nets without windows.

One word: breakfast. I think I've never had a breakfast as good as this one. It's delicious! Beds are comfy, but I would say that it needs something more powerful than just a fan in the room, since it gets really hot in Merida. However, I slept like a baby. It's located right in the city center and did I mention how cheap it is? I had a lovely stay :)

Pros — Big clean kitchen. Huge breakfast with fruits, breads, cereals, omelette, coffee, tea, milk. Clean rooms. No benk bed. Wifi in all areas. Cons — the room is bit crowded. Bathroom door is just a curtain. Men's shower does not have hot water.

Down to earth place with helpful and friendly staff. Didn't stay here. Guests were happy.

Actually the bed room is quite packed with people and bathroom is yup. Quite so so but as I mentioned, the breakfast covers all! Definitely wanna go back again!

Javier the Owner is especially friendly and inviting. Treats you like family. Cheaper than other hostels around. Breakfast was always really gooood. Great location too.

Great hostel for the price. The rooms are affordable and staff very friendly. The breakfast is great, fresh fruit and vegetables every day and yummy eggs. Not so noisy for a hostal. Would definitely stay here again or recommend to anyone in coming to Mérida. Only negatives… something really small but slightly bigger towels would be really great for better coverage when walking from showers to rooms… all in all a great hostel.

This hostal is great; very spacious, clean and the people are awesome. José & Dora make great hosts, they're not shy to give recommendations. The place is in the heart of the city, which is very convenient. Highly recommended.

The best part is that the hostal is in the heart of the city! Jose and others at the facility will gladly recommend must visit locations in Merida and nearby. A+

The building is an amazing location. The hostel itself is a very cool building with an open air patio. The breakfast is great, lots of fruit. The Wi-Fi works great. We stayed in a private room with shared bathroom. The room was nice. Very high ceilings. There is only a fan but that was enough to keep is cool. The only downside is the shared bathroom. It was far from our room and the men's bathroom was out of order all the time. Other than that a great place to stay in Mérida. Also they offer tours. I recommend the tour to Uxmal and Kabah!

The breakfast was very good, the room very small but enough to sleep. What was not nice was the smell that comes out of a bathroom that is not yet fixed and enters the room.
