Just came back from an amazing 3D2N stay with our 7 years old. The hosts are knowledgeable and so accommodating. It was such a different experience to stay almost on the top of the ridge line vs down by the river side. The view was amazing and it was always breezy. This was our third trip to lower Kinabatangan river to see the pygmy elephants and they made it happened! Food was so good that we would have felt guilty to eat so much if we didn't have to climb the 600 steps up to the resort. Rooms were basic, but clean and spacious. Kid already asked to go back before we even left Sandakan!

Amazing lovely spot in the middle of the jungle. The food was amazing, ambiance very cozy and the tours on the river excellent. We saw a lot of wildlife. Even a Urang Utang next to the lodge which was amazing ❤️❤️ Thank you guys!

Our villa was beautiful and clean, right on the beach with amazing views although it isn’t very swimmable. The staff are super friendly and organised and the breakfast crepes and pancakes were super yum!

One of the best stays I ever had. Gert, the owner, is super friendly and really wants to make your stay personal. We have seen plenty of wildlife on the cruises like proboscis monkeys, pigtail makaques, crocodiles, wild boars, eagles, king fishers, orangutans etc. I can only recommend it.

Hotel very carefully and with great customer service. We spent 3 nights in this hotel and were more than pleasant. It is true that there are a lot of stairs to get to the accommodation but, really, it is worth it.

Stayed at The Last Frontier: April 23rd to April 25th During our three weeks holiday on Sabah, Borneo, we opted for the 3D/2N package of TLF, also because we were advised to go there by people that had already visited the place. The booking itself was easy and good; last minute changes to our booking were no problem and we were also offered to pay upfront in Euros. Contact via email went smoothly and always a swift response from TLF. Gert offered to pick us up at our hotel in Sepilok. Great! On April 23rd we were picked up at the agreed time and we met Gert for the first time. Gert, an inspired Belgian, told us about the impact men have on local nature and wildlife. Upon arrival at TLF there's only one thing left to do (which, in our opinion, is being exaggerated in travelguides) ; the stairs to the top of the hill. Even after having done Mt Kinabalu with some sore legs, the climb was easy and you'll be rewarded by the amazing view at the top. Our stay was pleasant; simple rooms with a hot shower, fan and a western size twinbed. The food was really really good; Jason is a skilled chef who masters local cuisine and has a degree in western cuisine, which is more than welcome after having 3 Asian meals a day for two weeks straight. TLF is a boutique style resort that definitely favors quality over quantity. The package was perfect. Three days is enough to get a good impression of your surroundings at TLF.

A very, very pleasant stay in the middle of a still smaller becoming typical Malay jungle. Awesome local and world dishes, made by co-owner Jason. Good trails with local guide, and great service from local guides in the search to elephants and other river-wildlife… very guestfriendly service by both owners of this small, boutique resort!
