Almaty Hostel Dom Hostel

It is more of a family than a business. No nobody is related but it feels as a family there. The owner, Shakir is a great host 10/10 to him. Ofcourse the Hostel has it's flaws like any other place. I gave 5 stars for the atmosphere and the Host/ owner. Rest was not my priority so for me it was totally worth living.

Atmospheric and positive place. I am very glad that I was fortunate to visit and meet new friends here.
The hostel is in a quiet area, very comfortable beds, it is always clean and tidy, there is Wi-Fi, washing machine. In total, the number of seats is 18 places, so it is really the atmosphere of the house.
In the evenings they cook borsch, pasta or fondue for all "family", play cards, Mafia.
And, of course, a separate word about the owner is Shakir. Very helpful and open person who will always help and support.

Great place. The owner is very friendly. Quiet area. There are many cafes nearby and the area is famous for Georgian kebabs.

I have been travelling for more than a year in Asia and this was my favourite place. Cosy and warm, I felt like home there (even did a detour just to come back).

It is definitely a place you would like to stay if you prefer family like environment. 2. The owner SHAKIR is a gem. You can contact him with any problem, question or help. If he can somehow, he surely will help you. 3. The hostel has more of a family home vibe than a business. You can compare it to a good college hostel than else. 4. If you prefer company and is travelling alone, this place is a definite stay. Cons: 1. The hostel feels little bit old and many things like stairs to go up (if you have been offered a bed upstairs) is really cramped up and people with big feet will have a hard time. 2. The hostel has many people who stay for long, like students, and you might find their luggage scattered all around. 3. The beds are hard but can't say uncomfortable, my only problem was the bedding seemed slightly dirty. 4. Maybe it is not worth mentioning but as an honest review I'll write. The owner ofcourse is too easy going so some guests take advantage and do whatever they want (like couples making out everywhere, making love on dorm beds or sometimes people eating your food (without asking) if you are not there). Which sometimes may be a bit uncomfortable for people. Ofcourse the Hostel has it's flaws like any other place.

Best in Almaty, best in Kazakhstan, Best in Central Asia… I stayed at Almaty Hostel Dom few month during my volunteer work and travels in Central Asia… Shakir is a great host and becomes easily a good friend who solve common problems of travellers and help guests to organise their trips due to his travellermind and connections to the local tourism office. The hostel is a few minutes away from Almaty´s central street Dostyk, from where you can easily walk or catch transport to Almaty´s sights or nearby mountains. Shakirs Hostel is like a home and his babushka very often provide local food for all guests. I miss the time at this comfortable and cosy place!

Easily the best hostel I have stayed in during my time in Central Asia! Shakir, the host, is amazing. He is incredibly welcoming and the most genuine and lovely person you could ever hope for. The hostel is exactly like a home, but cleaner and more friendly. I hope everyone stays here if you come to Almaty because it really has made my time in Kazakhstan. It's a wicked hostel!

Unbelievably great! Hostel Almaty Dom is the place to be in Central Asia. I stayed for three weeks and since the first day it felt like home. Waking distance to all the main places of the city, very interesting guests and helpful staff. Shakir will guide and help you during your stay with all the questions and problems. I wish to come back soon!

I have been travelling for 10 months over Asia and this is one of my favourite hostels. Shakir really makes you feel at home. I was there for my birthday and he cooked me a cake and organised a little party with the other guests. The place is clean with several dorms and two bathrooms. The kitchen / common area is cosy and comfortable. I ended up staying longer than expected in Almaty just for this place.

I stay about 7 days waiting for the visa and shaqi is a great host, he can speak english fluently (he watch game of thrones in english). And also gave me a lot of directions on a lot of things, recommended for english speaker like me. :)

A lovely homely hostel with a nice kitchen and friendly hosts.

Pros: Really low prices — in oct 2016 I only paid 1500 tenge per night (no breakfast but you can cook your own food). The owner Shakir is very helpful — he will help you to arrange day trips, call for taxis, advise on directions… His grandma is also super cute :) There's not much in the neighbourhood itself but within 25mins on foot you'll get to some nice eateries (there's a really good Georgian place just 15mins away), a metro station, the opera hse, and even the cable car station to kok tobe. Lockers available. Wifi works perfectly well. Cons: A clean but pretty small/basic bed and bathroom. Insufficient power plugs and hangers in room. And this is essentially a residential area so it can be bit scary to walk back alone in the dark. If you are a light sleeper you're also likely to be kept awake by the many barking dogs in the area. The hostel also has the narrowest stairs I've ever seen, so please do yourself a favour and stay elsewhere if you have huge luggage. All in all for the price and quality I would recommend this hostel for 1 or 2 nights!

Great hostel. Feels like home as soon as you walk in the door. Loved the Walt Disney murals on the wall. Great location. Cheap. Friendly staff. Highly recommend.

I enjoyed every single day I stayed here. Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff. The location was great, close to the nature and city center. It had good facilities, clean bathroom and kitchen. The hostel had a lot of guests from different nations, so I had a chance to get acquainted with them, make friends and learn new information. Highly recommend this hostel.
