Skip the meal if you're not fond of Japanese breakfast. Lots of nice restaurants around, along with a 7-11 for those with a budget. Being close to the lake is a major plus, and the public onsen is excellent. I had it all to myself late in the evening and early in the morning though.

The service is friendly. Our room had two windows that let in a lot of light with good views and a rooftop onsen to boot.

Not only the room is a nice traditional Japanese one (our choice) but the staff makes you feel at home, so nice. They can interact in English and in Japan, it is fantastic. The room has a fantastic view of the lake and the sunset.

Fantastic service! Very nice and polite staff and lovely yummy food, specially dinner. Special thanks to lady Toshie Shibuya who help us with our check in and doing her best for us.

Great hotel. Dinner options were delicious and the onsen was amazing. I was to say the sashimi bowl was the freshest I've had since Tokyo and a must try if you are a raw fish fan (My wife had the curry and it was great as well). The staffs were super helpful and I think it's definitely worth getting the luggage service on your last day so you can explore more. The bathroom and hallways are a bit dated and requires some renovation but the overall experience is amazing with tatami/futon. Staffs attention to detail was great!

A family run ryokan. The hotel staff were very nice. The place has a rustic look, but in a good way in my opinion. Definately book with breakfast and dinner. It totally makes all the difference, as you will have a very large 10 service dinner served in the comfort of your room by the staff. The also excellent breakfast is served in a common dining room on the second floor. Otherwise there are a few restaurants in town. The hot-air bath on the seventh floor is a typical Japanese onsen and gender-seperated. There is an indoors one and an open-air one. The open-air one unfortunately has quite a few spiders lurking around so if you have arachnophobia, better stay inside. Be sure to wash yourself with soap before taking a dip. Water is approximately 42 degrees Celsius. Try for a lake view room if you can, as the view is amazing. You can't see Mount Fuji from the hotel but a 5 minute walk will let you see peering past the valley. Beware that even the slightest clouds will obscure it however. Hakone shrine is also easily reachable by 15 mins of walk. Be sure to take your picture next to the floating Torii. On an endnote, beware of crossing the streets as Hakone-moto has very few lights for pedestrian crossings and the town is crossed by the Tokaido road.

Very friendly and helpful staff. Not smoking rooms available but on the same floor as smoking rooms. Highlight was definitely the upstairs bath with a great view.

The place was very nice and the view was excellent from our room! I really liked the onsen and the staff was very friendly. The food was sometimes good and sometimes ok, but the prices were slightly on the high side. It was overall a very nice place to stay!

The baths had a pretty decent view (the hills coveted Mt. Fuji, but you could see over the lake). The beds were good, but the pillows were a little lumpy. The service was excellent (as per a Japanese standard). The Japanese style breakfast was absolutely amazing. In the mornings, a 10-15 walk can grant you an excellent view of Fuji.

Great staff and service. We arrived past check-in time but the staff patiently waited for us. We knew based on previous reviews and pictures that the hotel is quite old and could be not as clean as we'd like but we were pleasantly surprised. Nice Japanese style rooms with great views. Bathroom is small but clean. We chose the hotel for its convenience.

Beautiful location and great experience with the tea ceremony / meals. Courteous staff and nice atmosphere.

I think the hotel is a bit overpriced; room is relatively small, a bit old and dirty especially the bath tub. The staff are nice and their service is good! The hotel is at a good location as well.

A/c didn't work very well. Location was great, next to the water. For the money this place is a great buy. Awesome customer service. Dated interior.

I enjoyed the wonderful time we spent my family in Ashino lake. And the hot spa was incredible. Thank you for everything.
