I've been to Japan hundreds of times, and this is by far one of the best stays I've had. Around the area, it has the best per dollar value, giving you an onsen, big beautiful traditional Japanese rooms and beds, and most importantly, priceless service. It's just about 10mins from the station, and strolling back was a breeze as it's located next to an open area, alongside a beautiful river. Whenever possible, the hosts would accommodate short trips to the monkey park and to the station, as well as helping with ski plans to shiga.
Amazing value, always doing everything possible to serve guests. Even provided free transport to and from jigokudanaionkey park and the station. We got our own private room on another floor in which dinner was served at any time requested; breakfast is served in a larger room shared with other guests. Best value ryokan, and easy access to shiga kogen. This hotel could not have done more to make us feel welcome and satisfied, even with the lamguage barrier.
