Guest House Waraku-An Hostel

If you ever have plans to stay in Kyoto, this is the place you should really consider. The hosts are beyond and above nice. The rooms are clean and it feels like you are back in traditional Japanese times. This made our trip in Kyoto just that bit more magical. Thank you Waraku-An!

I love this place so much. When I stayed in last August, it feel like stayed at my home. The staffs are very kind and helpful. If I have a chance to visit Kyoto again, I choose to stay here.

Nice Ryokan, sure snuggelig. If you have taken it with you in Japan in General, and then it would certainly not be bad.

Old Traditional House of a century. The service is impeccable, it is very nice. Only the soundproofing is light but we forgive. The value for money is unbeatable on Kyoto.

Staff friendly, quiet environment, near also has BA Qiao Yangzhong, Xys Shrine and convenience store, outside there is a bus station, to Kiyomizu Temple and Yasaka shrine are very convenient (walking can also to), want to experience the style of the Beijing-cho Home architecture (destined side and atrium) to this tour!

We had a wonderful stay, the rooms were cozy, not too small and it was very quiet. The garden in the center of the hotel is beautiful and we enjoyed our stay very much.

We pay ¥27000 for the 4 nights including 2 in the Deluxe double room which overlooks the garden. It's an old house from the early 20th century. The reception is top. There is tea and coffee (instant) available and free of charge. Frigidaire available. Two free Wi-Fi including one at 5GHz (the second is at 2.4GHz)
It is a ryokan, Guest-House, shared toilets and showers also. They rent bikes also at 500yen a day.
The beds are traditional futons…

This is a true gem of Kyoto. The couple who have re-buikt and restored it at beautiful people, and the rest of the staff are more than happy to help with anything the guests may need. It's a quiet space, where you can really take in the Ryokan atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The place is really great for the price. Certainly the comfort is Spartan, but the staff is adorable and the location ideal. If you are not afraid of promiscuity and are looking for a local atmosphere, Waraku-an is made for you.

Wonderful hostel or ryokan with very clean tatami rooms. Yes the structure is a bit older and sound proofing may not be as good as some of the hotels but I've had the best nights sleep I've had in a long time in a four persons dorm. I love how the whole place is arranged as it's a traditional Japanese style house. People who stay here are very considerate and staffs are very friendly. Even if some of them don't have brilliant English they do try to help and communicate as best as they can which I appreciate very much. Transportation is good too with buses as the bus stops are only a few min walk away. Be sure to book early as it tends to be booked out a month in advance. It's not right in the centre of Kyoto but with public transport you could go anywhere within 30min so you can't ask for more for such a reasonable if not cheap priced hostel/ryokan.

Before leaving the country, I caught a cold and asked the boss where the pharmacy was? The boss quickly took out cold medicine soup, the next day soothing a lot, the morning left the former boss also took a bottle of medicine about 10 or so, medicine has not yet taken feel the body is fast and good. And of course, this is a very characteristic homestay, very impressionof Japanese flavor fu!

Been there in June 2015. It's really beautiful place with wonderful people. I also love the environment it gives especially the small garden inside. Always wake up early just to sit down and enjoy the peaceful environment. ☺️

I have stayed at Waraku-An twice, once for a few days in summer of 2012 and recently in October 2015. With Kingyoya it is my favorite place to stay in Kyoto. The staff are very considerate. Wrapped up in an impromptu conversation with other guests, I forgot a book on the table in the main room. They are now sending the tome onto Beijing, apologizing only that they were not able to do so on the same day, as the post office was closed.
