This was the best experience we had in Japan. Beautiful traditional stay with very good food. I don’t eat meat and the hosts were too kind to change the meal for me. The onsen was also very nice.

Had a lovely stay at Ryokan Tanaka. The owners were very friendly and accomodating, keeping our luggage in the morning before we went to Kamikochi and helping me fix my broken suitcase before we left!

Hotel was a 2min walk away from the bus station and a 5min walk from the train station, making transport to and from the city extremely convenient.

This isn't the most fancy hotel in Japan, but it was one of my favorite stays. The room was large (huge by Japanese standards. ) It was clean, and included a washer/dryer.

Excellent hotel. It had a great vibe, was clean and had friendly staff. They alternate between a Japanese and Western breakfast. The Onsen was great and so were the rooms.

The hotel’s facilities are not too much. The onsen is underwhelming and the hotel amenities like shampoo soap and conditioner were of low quality and caused me to get allergies.

Had one of the highlights of my Japan Nakasendo-walk trip staying at Tajimaya Inn!

Staying at Tajimaya in Magome was an absolute highlight of my time in Japan. We were hosted wonderfully at this very traditional inn operated by an 8th generation owner.

The hotel is just a short nice walk to Takayama station and my first impression was that it’s so beautifully decorated.

Our stay at Mercure Hida Takayama exceeded expectations. From check-in the staff were professional, warm, and happy to offer local tips and directions.

Our experience of this hotel varied enormously from the first room few were allocated, a Japanese style room, to the second, which was a western style room.

We enjoyed this hotel with its own onsen. The onsen is well decorated ans very convenient. We had a Japanese style room. The best we has so far. Spacious with huge window.

Stayed here for 2 nights to do the basic Nakasendo way from Magome to Tsumago. Well preserved old house located right in the middle of Magomejuku.

We had an overnight stay with two people. The stay was perfect from the initial welcome to checkout. The house is beautiful, the food was impressive and very tasty.

A great little hotel. It’s only a few blocks from the train station! The rooms are spacious and very high tech. The toilets lift their own seat! The staff were all friendly.

We went to Takayama for 3 days and had to change to EPH for a night. It was fantastic! The room was great/spacious, it had a Hinoki bathtub, the bed was comfy and the service was super friendly.

Loved this place. Everyone there was lovely and really kind and warm ❤️. Food was wonderful, rooms were comfy, location is great. Private hot spring was so good as well, we didn't have to wait at all.

Everything about this place was magical. We arrived and got served abundant, varied and incredibly tasty food. So much so we immediately extended 1 more night on the spot.

Very nice and clean hotel.
We booked a room with 2 single beds, it was quite small but it was all what we needed for a couple days. Staff were friendly and helpful with all the questions we had.

Quiet area — with just a few restaurants/cafe in the area. Hotel itself has no restaurant — just a small kiosk selling snacks and instant food/soup. Rooms are decent.

We stayed for three nights.

I would like to compliment the staff that were doing the front desk duty on 29.12.25 afternoon. I was impressed by the help rendered/advice given as I have fell down & fractured my wrist.

The place is undeniably beautiful and the stay was, overall, very pleasant, with a kind and genuinely welcoming team. However, several details prevent the experience from feeling truly exceptional.

This is a hidden gem! I am traveling in a group of 8. We only managed to book for 1 night since they are fully booked. Kaiseki Dinner and breakfast were sumptuous!

Tai-san makes it so easy to have wonderful time in Takayama with all his recommendations, reservations, even providing the little things like handwarmers.

We had an incredible stay at SOY, the home is beautiful and the hospitality of Tai and his parents was exceptional. We wish we had of stayed longer!

The Machiya Hotel in Takayama is one of the nicest places we have stayed in during our many travels in Japan.

What an amazing hotel. The staff both the young lady and guy were so helpful and assisting the young lady got us a table at a venue which was booked out, this made our stay.

We stayed one night at this hotel. This hotel is a traditional Japanese style, it is very cozy and traditional.

This stay was the highlight of our two week trip to Japan! They were so kind and welcoming to us and we loved our room and the hot baths downstairs!

It is 20 min drive from Dynaland, 8min from Takasu snow park, and 1 min from another ski which I don’t remember name.

Holiday House Green Garden is one of the best accoms in the Hirugano Kogen area if you're looking to do some skiing at the nearby ski resorts. It's an 8 mins walk to the Hirugano Kogen Ski Resort.

We checked in late at 6:00 PM and absolutely loved our stay. The room was warm, cozy, and super comfortable.

I loved the marshmallows by the fireplace in the lobby! In the mornings, the breakfasts were great. The waiter is very polite and hospitable.

Hidatei Hanaougi provided an unforgettable experience during our first time in Japan. A traditional ryokan with stunning rooms, private and public onsens.

​Our first ryokan experience was great, despite us being a bit sick and unable to fully enjoy the food. However everything we managed to try was absolutely delicious.

The stay was booked as part of a big group travelling around Japan, we were very happy that the hotel was touching to the train station and we did not have to walk a lot with our bags.

This is definitely the best hotel I have stayed in Japan (I have been to many many other district in Japan).

A hidden gem located in the hills above Takayama city. Only 10 minutes by bus, 30 minutes by foot (I know because I walked there and back a few times) from Takayama train station.

This place is immaculately clean, and the ladies are so kind. It's right next to one of the coolest spots in town, the Hida Folk village.

The Chisun Grand was a fine modern hotel. Check-in took a while due to a few people in front of us but the staff was always nice and helpful.

This hotel is wonderful. The staff are very attentive, and there is parking available at an affordable price. The breakfast is varied and delicious.

I could not be happier with my stay at Honjin Hiranoya Kachoan. I stayed there back in January. It is truly a luxury ryokan that delivers on its reputation, especially with its unbeatable service.

We have experience in staying at several ryokan in Takayama on our previous trips to Japan. One particular ryokan that is worth mentioned is this Kachoan ryokan.

Very nice Ryokan with spacious rooms and amazing food. I enjoyed the stay very much and would definitely recommend it to everyone that is looking for a relaxing stay.

Onsens were super!

We (me, my wife, and 5YO daughter) stayed one night in the Presidential Suite. It was, as you’d expect, very spacious and the beds were comfortable. The location is great — right by the station.

Wonderful hotel. We stayed in level 3, very big room, with kitchen setup, bath room areas are separated.
Very clean…
