Review of Hotel Montepiana 2*

The Hotel Montepiana is a small hotel located in Mestre which is a convenient location for visiting the wonderful city of Venice. The hotel prices are much more reasonable and Venice can be easily accessed by train or bus within 30 minutes or less. The Hotel is located reasonably central to the many restaurants, shops and bars and it is also close to the railway station and also buses to Venice Airport. It is located on a quiet residential area which meant a good nights sleep without outsider noise. It has to be said that this hotel is basic but rooms do have en-suite bathrooms, a colour TV, air conditioning and free Wi-Fi which is not something you always get at 5 star hotels for some reason! There are no meals available but a light continental breakfast is available-this is very basic as per most Italian breakfast offerings outside of the larger hotels but pastries, tea/coffees and juices were offered and breakfast seemed to be included in most of the room rates. The owners, who are welcoming and friendly, actually encouraged us to take breakfast one morning even though we had missed serving times an were on our way out for the day which was a good service. They speak a little English but the night porter-although friendly-spoke next to no English so with our limited Italian checking out early on the last morning to catch a flight and having to pay the bill by card was a little tricky so perhaps best to sort out the check out and billing with the owners during the day. I will give this 3 stars as a small hotel establishment not directly comparable with a larger hotel-when we next visit Venice and plan to stay in Mestre we would consider staying here again as well as shopping around for other options in the area.
