New House Padang Hotel

I stayed at New House in Padang from the 24th of September 2018 to the 26th. On my last day a guide that the hotel booked was supposed to pick me up at 6.30 in the morning to go surfing with a teacher at 7 o'clock. The guide didn't show up or answer the phone when the reception called him around 8 o'clock. The best surfing hours are early dawn and before sunset, so I woke up very early and waited for about 2 hours, and basically wasted half a day of surfing. When I talked to the manager I told him what happened and he told me something along the lines of " It's not so bad, look at it this way: at least you're eating a free breakfast at the hotel". I told him that the breakfast is part of what I paid for and that doesn't count as compensation. He said I was right but just offered me a lift to the beach so I could rent a board and surf. I tried explaining that I need a tutor because I'm a beginner, and in any case I just wasted my entire morning waiting for the guide while on vacation. I wanted compensation for that but he was just shocked. He couldn't understand why I still wanted to be compensated if I'm getting a "free meal" (already paid in the reservation), and a "free ride". He also said that what happened was not his fault. I tries explaining that even so, he is responsible for the services they provide especially if I'm paying the hotel for the guide and not the guide himself (as the guide himself told me the day before when I asked about payment).

Nice beds, good hostel, can't really blame them for being rather empty. French guy in reception was a bit of an ass. Good place to stay, but not a reason to stay either.

One of the best place we've been in Indonesia so far. We are travelling for 4 months here and it's on our top 2. The cleanest homestay ever. The young guy in charge is cleaning litteraly every 5 minutes. The rooms are cool, bathroom good, the living area is great and cosy, pool table, very nice decoration, very cool music, great kitchen to use. We felt like home for two nights which is great after 2 years travelling. The guys there are really cool. Perfect place to chill out and rest! Good location near good street food, food court and just near by the beach. Just 15 min walk from pasar Raya. Only bad point, I advice to make the laundry elsewhere as it's more pricey that elsewhere and the clothes were still smelling… I highly recommend this place. Probably the best place to stay in Padang! Thank you Bruno and your team for welcoming us ;)
