Hotel Tugu Malang

A phenomenal hotel, beautifully located in the historic centre of Malang. The atmosphere, architecture, and attention to detail make this place truly special.
Danes, the front manager, went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable by organising a surprise birthday cake for my partner.
Breakfast was another highlight: the power breakfast bowl and fresh smoothies are excellent and a great way to start the day.
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a unique, personal, and memorable stay in Malang.

Hospitality for this hotel very excelent, they have hotel tour for limited property access form the owner. We also can enjoy tea time, wonosari black tea is one of my favorite tea. Relaxing in december, enjoy malang during the rain. Excellent.

Remembering my early days of staying in The Tugu Malang. Every corner is a testament of how archival antiques could create such a poetic nuance to the hotel areas. The fabulous Melati restaurants and Ban Lam Bar are complete the experience. Oh don't forget the relaxing spa and the bakery too!

Beautifully appointed hotel. An amazing collection of antiques collected with great taste. Excellent value for money. Be aware that if you chose the best rate, you might end up in a small room which is fair enough.

This hotel has exceptional charm and character as well as the friendliest staff I can recall experiencing.
From the moment you arrive you are greeted with charm and hospitality and this continued with all the staff during our stay. This is always a great relief as a same sex couple.
The numerous restaurants are all exceptional with the main restaurant having the most extensive menu. We ate there daily as there was always new things to descover.
The hotel is a huge colonial museum really of Chinese, Dutch and Javanese relics. It rained a bit so hanging out in the hotel when it did was a pleasure.
You can walk to everything there is to do in Malang (which is not a lot as Malang is more of a springboard for day trips). The hotel is one of the towns main attractions; a destination in itself.

Very unique hotel, conveniently located near the train station. Breakfast was excellent — plenty of choices and all made to order. Delicious fresh juices and smoothies. If anything there were SOOOOO MUCH food — but that was my fault for over ordering 😅 All staff were very friendly and helpful.
We also used the spa facilities for massage. Excellent massage. For people expecting too much pampering and fluff, be aware you get exactly what you order. Western visitors may find the service seems a little brusque. We ordered 1hr massage and that is exactly what we got — we both agreed this was the best massage we have ever had. Also very reasonable price for the massage compared to other top-end hotels.

Iconic spot in Malang. Wander around outside to the flower plant market or get lost surrounded by ancient artefacts with the hallowed halls. Excellent food. Huge beakfast… charming staff. A must stay or eat at if in Malang. Do NOT miss the shop (spices, crackers, jams etc)

Lovely hotel in the city center near a famous and busy roundabout but the hotel is so quiet and peacefull. John Backham the host helps with everything. The rest off the staff is also super nice and they’re English is perfect.
If you want to do the bromo ijen tour, ask for mr Dandy. Best driver near Malang.

Hotel Tugu has a great location, just a 6-minute walk from the train station. The property is large, full of character, with a lovely garden and a swimming pool. The pool water is quite cold, which makes it refreshing on hot days.
Our room was spacious and comfortable, though a bit dark, with only one window without the view. The bed was great, the bathroom nice, but the shower pressure could be stronger.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast was fantastic – à la carte with plenty of choice, and everything we tried was delicious. We also appreciated the packed breakfast for our early tour, as well as the complimentary afternoon tea with Indonesian snacks.
We also tried the massage (very good and still affordable) and had an excellent meal at the neighboring Saigonese restaurant.
Overall, a very pleasant stay with great service and one of the best breakfasts we had in Indonesia.

This hotel is absolutely amazing — I’m so glad we chose to stay here! The decor and setting is just incredible and we kept discovering new things to look at and admire during our stay. Breakfast was brilliant — we’re vegan and the staff were really accommodating — and the afternoon tea was a treat as well. The staff were all fantastic and made our stay so enjoyable — they’re kind, welcoming and very helpful. Thank you!

Very interesting hotel! The rooms are in a colonial style and are very nice. The hotel itself is very big and filled with trinkets and decorations, highly recommend the tour of the hotel, our guide was very friendly (like all the staff). There's great food to be had in the hotel restaurants and you can even enjoy tea or a massage!

Outstanding hotel. Such a unique experience. It’s worth visiting Malang just to stay here. We spent 2 nights here and ate in both restaurants, which were fantastic. We wished we could have stayed longer. There is so much to see in the hotel itself, full of beautiful antiques and architectural features and plants. The rooms are elegantly designed and each door has an ornate carving. We loved the tea served in the afternoons and the complimentary head and shoulder massage. The location is excellent, only a short walk from the train station, and overlooking the beautiful central square/ roundabout. The staff were exemplary: attentive, friendly and very competent. Highly, highly recommended.

Beautiful hotel in the local/colonial architectural style. Rooms are a little dated and our bathroom was a little cramped, but that's to be expected when you choose a heritage hotel instead of a purpose-built one. Amazing breakfast and charming service. Great central location.

Amazing hotel in comfort, location. Facilities, food and ambience. Private art collection of the owner on display is amazing. Restaurants onsite serve such an variety of food that we ate in hotel every day. We loved it so much that we extended our stay. Staff go above and beyond their duties to help. Everyone is always smiling from management to the gardener. Special shout out to Anita at reception. Do not forget to have their complimentary afternoon tea. Walking distance to most sights in Malang. If you intend to do the Bromo sunrise tour they provide an wonderful breakfast with variety to take with you.

We had a great stay at Hotel Tugu Malang, the staff were so friendly, it was very clean and it had great amenities. It was also very close to the Malang train station, but it is a minimum of 2 hours drive from Surabaya if you’re coming via plane.
Only thing that affected giving 5 stars was we were recommended a driver, a friend of one of the reception staff, and when he arrived he had a serious cough and was wearing a face mask (but was taking this on and off during the drive). Realistically, I don’t think he should have been driving and resting instead.
Two days later, my partner and I went to finish our Indonesian holiday in Bali very excitedly and it seems that I have caught the viral infection from the driver. Not the hotel’s fault but it has tainted the stay and is probably something they should keep in mind if any staff are ill.

We had a perfect stay at Tugu Malang. All of the staff were amazing — John, Anita, Bobby, Johan and everyone else!
The Executive Suite was so spacious and comfortable that there was no reason to leave. The bathtub is the most comfortable one I've experienced at a hotel. The only downside is that the curtains don't open easily so the room lacks natural light. Wi-Fi was fast and suitable for working.
We really appreciated the hotel's sustainability efforts — mineral water is brought to your room in refillable glass bottles, the amenities are packaged in recycled paper.
The afternoon tea was a highlight, featuring different traditional snacks and sweets every day.
The 45-minute welcome massage at the spa was great. There's a simple gym room onsite for basic workouts.
The location is central, surrounded by cafes and restaurants. We tried dinner at Melati restaurant — the ambiance was nice but the food was on par with local restaurants nearby.

It is a very special hotel and has a lot of interesting history. The location is great, very near to cafés and restaurants. It has a lot of character and even offers complimentary drinks and snacks. The toiletries were of very good quality.
The only bad thing was there was a sandy area in my room and the crackers in the room were chargeable. There was no view and our room was literally facing a wall when we opened our curtains.
