We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is entirely grand. I felt like Cary Grant checking in to the Woldorf, just wish I looked like him… The new resteraunt was a hit with us, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with the other one beside the pool. We will definitely be back, we loved Malang.
We had a nice one night stay. The hotel is furnished in traditional style with so much to look at. Our room was nice, but the lighting wasn’t very bright even when you put all of them on. Also the water wasn’t very hot, just a bit warm and the bath tap a bit rickety. I just feel that the room although gorgeous traditional decoration could do with the actual facilities being updated.
We enjoyed a very nice dinner at Saigonsan. I had the crab cakes followed by the lamb massaman — delicious. Breakfast was also very nice with plenty of variety and some nice healthy dishes too.
Service throughout was impeccable.

Our stay at Hotel Tugu Malang was a pleasure from start to finish. It is difficult to say what stood out most — the incredibly helpful and friendly staff, or the wonderful surroundings: an atmosphere of peace, calm and tranquillity, complemented by an extraordinary collection of beautiful antiques.
From the moment you walk through the doors, you are warmly welcomed by the hotel team. Whether it was Anita at the reception desk, the friendly and attentive night manager, the talented gentleman responsible for the beautiful flowers throughout the hotel, or Handi, who gave us a fascinating private tour of the antiquities, every interaction was a perfect example of genuine warmth and exemplary customer service.
What impressed us most was how genuinely proud everyone seemed to be of their profession and of working at Hotel Tugu. Nothing felt forced or merely part of a routine — the care and enthusiasm of the staff were evident in every encounter.
Malang itself is a lovely city and, in our opinion, should not be missed. We stayed for five nights and wished we could have stayed much longer. In fact, within just two days, my wife was already talking about returning to Malang — and to Hotel Tugu. Our adult daughter even suggested that we should do a “Tugu Tour”, staying at all of the Tugu hotels from Jakarta to Lombok. After such a wonderful experience in Malang, that is an idea we will seriously consider in the next few years.
