Khanaya Hotel Borobudur

I REALLY wanted to love this place. Based on the online photos and reviews, we were super excited to stay here but upon check in, we quickly realised the vision of this hotel is seriously let down by its execution. We stayed in a standard bungalow room and the actual upstairs bedroom was awesome, very clean, great aircon and very comfortable mattress bed. Downstairs let it down. The open-air bathroom was run down, full of bugs and mouldy, I had to burn incense to try and hide the smell. The downstairs lounge room, while reasonably clean and nicely furnished, had no aircon and was basically unusable due to the stifling heat. The infinity pool, overlooking the river, was refreshing but needed a deep clean, the steps in were slippery with moss. The deal breaker though was basically no running water, we could not shower. Unfortunately we left after 1 night and had to walk away without a refund for the remaining 2. The staff tried to help but with very limited english, we didn't get far. We considered an upgrade first but they wanted an exorbitant $500 AUD for 2 nights on top of the $140 we lost. Yeah, nar. The "premium" rooms smelt worse! They are a 2 star hotel at best and charge double what they should. Sad and disappointing.

Pretty little hotel. But the room doesnt feel expensive. Eventhough the price is equivalent to a 4star hotel.

This is a well located boutique hotel with a lovely pool set next to a forested stream. The back of the double storied huts look out over a papaya orchard. The huts and hotel are immaculately decorated with great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. One of them has great English. We spent three nights here and enjoyed cooling off in the pool in the morning and evenings. If you are sensitive to noise, you may want to stay in the main hotel building as the huts have thin walls and the hotel is right beside a road. The breakfast is great when there are no other quests as we could order whatever we wanted from the menu.
