Beautiful, comfortable small room with lovely bathroom, aircon. Everything is clean, tidy. Shady courtyard to relax and eat. Tasty breakfast provided. Coffee, tea and hot water provided. Hosts are very helpful but don’t intrude, English spoken. We very highly recommend Genthong.

21-22 Aug (2D1N) : This homestay host and his family were friendly, courteous and as guest you feel welcome. The room and bathroom were clean and neat. Netflix channel was available on TV in the room.
The host was able to recommend some good local restaurants to us.
Fried rice was the breakfast which simple and taste quite good.
The location of this homestay is about 10 mins walk from Borobudur Temple and about 20 – 30 mins walk from bus Terminal Borobudur.

They had excellent recommendations and it’s located in a quiet road in the city which is a perfect combo.
You’re walking distance to the temple and rice fields. There’s a good bar beside the rice fields with a few tables upstairs.
When you reach the main part of town, you might run into a guy named Miftah who offers to drive you round. Accept that invitation. He’s a champion.

I booked Genthong Homestay a day before arriving in Borobudur, which I usually do when backpacking. I don’t think too far ahead because plans can change anytime. I came late this time because getting a ride out of the Lempuyangan train station proved very difficult (lots of touts, heavy traffic, and the language barrier, of course). Despite this, Tomo, Genthong Homestay’s owner, waited for me and even sent me his number in case I needed to call or text him.
I stayed in a dormitory-style room with multiple beds, but they also offered private rooms at a higher price. For a little over 200 PHP (4 USD), I got a spartan room, a complimentary breakfast, a shared kitchen with free drinking water, tea and coffee, and a shared toilet and bath with no hot shower. There’s probably a better deal on Agoda or a similar platform but what stood out for me was Tomo’s warmth and generosity. Genthong Homestay’s value proposition is genuine interest and interaction from the owner. He was always ready to help and shared information on other things to do and places to visit besides Borobudur Temple. I would’ve probably missed Pawon and Mendut Temples if it weren’t for Tomo’s help.

Tomo and his family are the sweetest and excellent hosts! I felt very comfortable at their home stay. They provide with teas and water which makes a very cozy stay. Everything was perfect and the best was to have interaction with them and their adorable kids. I thank them so much for their warmth and dedication. I hope I can come back soon!

We have an amazing staying in Genthong Homestay. Tom the owner give us a fantastic service and help us a lot. We recommend the house 100%. Near the temple, clean and nice! You recibe much more for what you paid.

The host and his wife were absolutely lovely. They were helpful, kind and friendly. The room was spacious. Air con was nice and cold. Simple breakfast of Nasi Goreng (fried rice) was delicious. For the price, thei place is an absolute gem!
Everything was perfect. Nothing to change. For the price, this place more than meets expectations.

Thanks to Pak Tomo and wife for the very warm welcome. We really enjoyed our stay in Genthong Homestay. We just called in the last minutes and luckily we got room and fair enough for our family. Just need one single extra bed and we good to sleep. They also informed us about the nice place to get dinner and breakfast. I would like to thank to their hospitality. We never got this such as friendly homestay like this. We definitely will be back if we visit Borobudur next time.
