Efata Homestay

My stay at Efata Homestay was truly awesome, made even more special by Ika and Yani, who went out of their way to help me. Ika, in particular, took me on his motorbike to the Chicken Church and Borobudur Temple. On my last morning, he took me to the bus station and even helped me book a ticket back to Malioboro when it wasn’t entirely clear if there was an early morning service. They also made a fantastic local Javanese breakfast each morning.
Don’t hesitate, just book.

The Homestay is situated very conveniently, about 10 min by foot from the bus station and also about 10 min by foot from the Borobudur sunrise entrance (I did actually not walk because Ika did not want me to walk at night and he brought me with the car). The rooms are simple with comfortable beds and very clean. The AC is very silent. I had the traditional breakfast and enjoyed it.
Ika and Iani are lovely, smily and very helpful. I enjoyed hearing the explanations and recommendations from Ika. They have a cute garden, perfect to relax after a day walking around. The Homestay is situated in a side street and therefore away from the noise of cars. You can hear a mosque, actually as you do from everywhere because there are several in the village, and in Java in general.

Efata Homestay is a genuine homestay experience. It’s the host family’s own home, and you’ll be warmly welcomed, served authentic breakfasts in their dining room, and cared for with exceptional hospitality. Consider yourself lucky if you find an available room here.

We wanted to experience more than only the Borobudur temple and Efata Homestay was the perfect place to be for that. It started with information and help for the transport and continued with a great hospitality at the place. The rooms are simple but functional and very clean. We enjoyed spending time in the pretty garden. The hosts, Ika and Yani, also provided snacks and tea in between. Ika was born in the Borobudur village and offered to give us a tour and we saw some local areas we would not have found alone. Our highlight was the local tofu manufacturer.

Efata Homestay is a little haven of peace, just a short walk from the temple, on a quiet street. It’s run by a truly charming and welcoming Indonesian couple.
The room is spacious and spotless, breakfast is delicious, and the value for money — and location — is unbeatable.
Mr. Ika kindly offered to take me around to a few other places near the temple to make the most of my short visit to Borobudur. Such a thoughtful gesture.
I 100% recommend staying with these people who clearly have a passion for hospitality.

I visited this place in November 2024. The room is consistent with the description and photos. It is very cozy and clean. There is air conditioning in the room. Yani & Ika took care of us as part of their family. The breakfasts that Yani prepared were local (but that's our choice), because you can also choose another option for breakfast — delicious and with fresh products. You can park a scooter on the property. Very close to the main street with shops and local attractions. There is a mosque next door, so it is noisy during prayer times. Next time I am in the area I will choose this place 100%.

With the kindest, most helpful gentle hosts in Ika and Yani comfortable rooms, beautiful well kept gardens.
Ika helped us with our ticket bookings and drove us to the Temple … while Yanni made us amazing home cooked breakfasts.

Our stay at Efata homestay was short but great! Ika and Yani are great hosts. Make you feel comfortable, are very helpful but give you time and space for yourself. He gave us great tips for our entrance at Borobudur and recommended great restaurants. It is very clean and simple. If I am ever in the area again, I would definitely come back and recommend to everybody. Thank you so much, for having us!

This is a lovely place to stay if you want to explore the Borobudur village as well as the temple. Ika and his wife were lovely and acted as guides as well as hosts and shared good food and coffee spots with us.
The breakfast was delicious and they even arranged a super early breakfast so that we could catch our early train.
The rooms are basic but have all the necessities and the shower was super powerful.
It is right next to a mosque which means you’re woken quite early by the call to prayer but it didn’t bother us.
We would’ve stayed longer if we weren’t flying home the next day!

A great place to stay! As soon as we arrived we felt like at home. The room was cleaned and comfy, the garden is beautiful, the homemade breakfast great (it changes from the dual you get). Ika and Yani went well beyond and did everything possible for us. They proposed different activities that could suit my 7 year old daughter (we loved the Mask painting). We stayed one day more as we felt so good there. We could have stayed more as there is so much to see (and it's sooo quiet compared to Yogya! ) Thanks again for everything!

I don’t write long reviews but they deserve one. Ika and his wife are the kindest people ever. They genuinely cared about my safety, comfort and experience. They actively asked if I needed any help and were able to accommodate me exceptionally. The breakfasts they made were delicious and I wanted to try local food so they delivered. They suited for my schedule. They also organised activities for me to enjoy. Took me to the rice fields in the early morning. They went above and beyond and my stay was unforgettable. Thank you so much and hopefully I see you soon :) ).

Very friendly and always ready to help us with tips for transport, tickets, … They also let us use their bikes and prepared a whole map with recommandations in the neighbourhood (food and visits). Also a delicious breakfast made with love, would 100% recommend!

We had an amazing time with Ika and Yani at their homestay. They welcomed us wholeheartedly and made us feel right at home. We were able to borrow their bikes and had great bike tours thanks to their tips. Highlight at the end: Ika took us to see a tofu maker and explained the whole process. We feel very lucky to have visited that place that we would have definetly missed without Ika as our guide.
The breakfast in the morning was also great with different local snacks each morning, fresh fruit and continental as well as local mains.

Ika and Yani helped us in every possible way to make our stay as comfortable ask possible. Their warm smile always lit up our moments and we loved spending every minutes with them. Breakfast was prepared as per your choice and Ika showed us a lot of natural and beautiful places around the Borobudur village as a happy guide. This was our home in Borobudur.

Ika and his wife were the most kind and generous. They took so much care of me, I felt like a member of the family, and they explained me so many things about the village and the culture. The house is strategically located very close to the Borobudur temple, you can walk there in 10 minutes and there are restaurants and shops around. The breakfast was amazing and you can ask to try also indonesian sweets.
I visited also the tofu maker and the coconut sugar maker, I really recommend to do it while there if you are interested in learning more about this part of the culture.
