Guesthouse Hamar

This hotel was perfect for us — we wanted to stay the day and overnight in the Westman Islands for my birthday during our Iceland vacation. The hotel was comfy and nice, our room had a view of the ferry and a place to park as we had brought our car. Staff was friendly, we even met a gentleman when we stopped by in the morning who seemed to be a friend of the proprietors and pointed out what streets to take and advice on walking to the lava fields and to climb to Edfell. We checked in and parked and later our key was left for us after we explored the town, volcano and the volcano museum for the day, with more exploring by car in the early evening and then dinner and more strolling about town. The hotel was a perfect home base. Breakfast was also perfect before an early ferry departure, with lots to look at in the dining room about the town and eruption. I would love to go there again.

Lovely guest house within minutes of walking from the ferry dock. Lovely rooms, clean and well maintained. Nice breakfast to start your day. Good for a relaxing stay in Westman island.

Modest but comfortable accommodation. We were able to park out front. City is small; easy walking. Breakfast buffet is modest.
Twas brillig, and the slithy toves did gire and gimble in the wabe. All mumsig were the marigrothes and the mome wrathes outgrabe.

Guesthouse and the stay was very good. The check in was uncomplicated. The rooms are well equipped and clean. The ferry is only a 5-minute walk away.

Deception by omission. This place is 3 stories, so be prepared to carry your luggage up & down as there is no elevator. The website doesn't tell you that. Upon arrival, the keys were laid out on the counter with a bell. There is a coin-operated payphone by the desk also. I use cards & didn't have any krona, the phone was useless. I guess the bell was to get a person. You could ring till the cows came home & no one would respond. After dragging our luggage to the 3rd floor, we found 1 towel in the bathroom. Not one per person, just 1 towel. Each bed also had only 1 pillow. We connected to Wi-Fi, but I guess the router wasn't working. I went downstairs again to find someone. After searching hi & low I found a guy who 'kind of works for them'. He called the owners, got authorization to give us 2 towels & relayed the concerns about internet access. They must have remotely reset the router. I turned the TV on, finding it was frozen. The date on BBC was 6 days prior to our arrival. I sent a message to the owner's, the next morning, it was still frozen.
3 stars my butt. Don't waste your money. Stay at Stracta in Hella — a true 3-star hotel and take the ferry for a day trip.

Excellent location. You can literally see it from the ferry dock. Comfortable beds and friendly staff. Within walking distance of Whale Santuary and Eldfell. We brought a car and free parking was available. Breakfast was sufficient… cold foods such as breads, cheese, and fruit, plus pancakes and hot oatmeal.
Appreciate the squeegee for the shower. We are learning to adapt to the Icelandic open shower and being able to squeegee the floor was so helpful.

Spent one night here while we were on the island.
Pros: Room was clean and quiet and in a great location. Small but nice breakfast is included.
Cons: No elevator — lugging suitcases to the 3rd floor was a surprise — and no one was at the desk when we arrived (our key was just set out for us with a note about when breakfast and checkout were). Bathroom was TINY — shower was so small that an adult barely fit in it. Amenities are sparse — one small towel & pillow per person, some sort of body wash in the shower — that's it. Had to find someone in the morning so we could check out and pay for our room.

Amazing place! Wonderfully nice people. Book this room if you come to these islands. Owners are super nice, friendly, and accommodating. Super responsive, we needed help with something and they were over immediately to fix it.
Very convenient location. Clean. Historic pictures on the walls of the volcano. Check out the view!

The Guesthouse is located central in the city. Its just 5 min by car to the fairy, and the post office is like 50 m across the street, parking is no problem, there are places in front of the house and you can also park in the street infront of the house. There was noone at the reception when we arrived, but we found the key together with some info on the counter and could have called the staff if needed.
The rooms are tidy and have a comfortable size (the biggest room that we had on our iceland tour so far! ). There is TV and free Wi-Fi, enough towels and comfy beds.
Breakfast was included for us and we found a rich variety of things, including meat, cheese, jam, bread and so on. The freshly made pancakes were superb! In the breakfast room is coffee and tea always available (and sometimes some spare pancakes from the breakfast ;) ) l, als well as books. You can find a plan of the island with some restaurant recommendations on the counter in the entrance area.

Set in the perfect location with a warm and friendly greeting when we arrived. The breakfast was lovely and tasty and the rooms were spacious, clean and cosy. We truly enjoyed our stay here and would recommend the RIB speed boat trips and the trips to the puffins and volcano on the island. A lot of rich history and wildlife to be seen here, we loved our stay!
I would recommend Tanginn restaurant for great food and service too.

Clean, spacious rooms and comfortable mattress. Bedding and pillows were a bit small. There was no staff in the evening to check us in or ask questions. Our keys were just sitting there when we arrived and we took ourselves up to our rooms. The location is great, within walking distance of many places. The breakfast in the morning was really really nice. We would definitely stay there again.
