Magnificent hotel, extremely well looked after down to the smallest detail, friendly and warm staff, in particular the great Mr Whatch, my Point of reference when I'm in Koln, I always choose the one and only Excelsior Hotel Ernst.

The bar of the house is really highly recommended. There is only a small selection of cocktails and long drinks, but this is not negative, but the quality of the drinks is clearly in the foreground. In addition, the cocktails are the classic variants, that you usually have as a side effect on a map.
All in all a great bar.

Simply a very well run 5 star hotel. Staff always very pre-recurrent. You can just recommend it further. Very good breakfast and in the Taku you can eat excellently.

After initial difficulties with our booked room, a top solution was found.

I recently had the pleasure to spend a night at Excelsior Hotel Ernst with my girlfriend. I can only recommend this 5* hotel. It is one of the best-located and impressive hotels in the city of Cologne. The Excelsior is like an oasis in the middle of the Cologne concrete jungle. The staff is outstandingly forthcoming, the high tea we attended had an incredible selection of teas from all over the world and pastries fresh from Paris with beautiful live piano music, and the amenities were superb. Upon arrival we were upgraded to a freshly renovated Super Deluxe room, which was very spacious, modern and classy. Our stay also included breakfast, which combines a-la-carte items with a large buffet. All in all a fantastic, luxurious stay that exceeded our expectations. 5* rating for a true 5* luxury experience.

I visited Cologne back in 2012 with my then 86-year old mother and she wanted to see the Cathedral. While there, she had an urgent need to use a restroom. As the hotel was nearby us and across from the Cathedral, we thought we could use the restroom inside the hotel. Upon entering the hotel, either the doorman or concierge staff immediately questioned us upon our entering the hotel. I politely asked permission if my mother could use the restroom really quickly. The staff was of Arabic/Turkish complexion immediately told us to leave the hotel and saw us out in a complete disgust. Is there any humanity in the hospitality industry? Today I encountered another situation of lacking humanity sense from a supposedly 5-star hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

That's in a class of itself. Professionally I travel a lot but in the Excelsior I can relax even though I am not at home. The service, quality and food are impeccable. The cushions and blankets are super-seclucent. For me, there is no other choice in Cologne after I have tested various hotels.

Brunch is the best thing I've ever done. Very very good food. A unique experience! I can only recommend!

It started out that we were to check in a room. We walked in and asked the doorman where the restroom was. He said it was closed. And point outside somewhere for us to go. If this is the way you treat people who are going to be guest in your hotel then I will stay somewhere else. Bensberg Castle is much better and the staff is amazing.

Had a 2 day stay over here in Cologne for the FIBO 2018 expo at Kolnmesse. Situated in the centre of Cologne at the foot of the Dom it is in a stunning setting. My room appeared to be one that hasn't been refurbished and therefore appeared to be not in keeping with the rest of the hotel which was immaculate. It just happened to be my birthday while I was away and the reception team left a slice of cake & card in my room which was a great touch and appreciated. The reception, bar & restaurant area are all pretty spectacular looking, in a grand style, rather than modern or contemporary. I would love to stay here again on a trip back to Cologne.

The amount of detail and decor that goes into this hotel, alongside the customer service, is fantastic. Right across the street from Köln am Dom, you are set alongside a historical landmark and just a few minutes walk from the main train station. Be ready for excellent service, great breakfast (albeit not included and pricy if you don't do the buffet) and wonderful room service. Great for a weekend if you are looking to visit and be pampered!

Top service, absolutely. Very discreet, höfflich, friendly, and never a cheeky answer to questions or wishes, which one places as solvent hospitable (as in most shops, department stores as well as restaurants, breweries in Cologne "Unfortunately meanwhile" is the order of the day. We live for 32 years here in Cologne, how do we know what we are doing here to make the public truly come from our personal experiences.

The overnight stay in the Grand Deluxe double room is really overwhelming. Our room on the 6th floor in the tower didn't miss anything. The furnishings are exceptionally beautiful and luxurious. The staircase in the tower must have been seen.
The breakfast was outstanding and all the staff consistently courteous and very friendly. A top address.

Wow! There were four of them a Christmas goose, a poem! Super-professional service, the goose was carved at the table, then the plates nicely prepared and served. Previously we were in the bar with beautiful wood paneling, also there excellent service. All very noble there, you could go in jeans and T-shirt there, but you probably would not feel comfortable.

Beautiful hotel with an unbeatable location right near the Köln cathedral, easy walking distance to a variety of shops, restaurants, and sights. Stayed over for the Christmas holidays and definitely appreciated the proximity to the Christmas markets, as well as the hotel's own festive offerings. Service staff were friendly and extremely attentive, everyone from the doorman to the service staff did all they could to make sure we were having an exceptional experience. Small caveat — the hotel's proximity to not one but two churches means that you will be dealing with the noise from two sets of bells — not such a big deal for us as we were on the side, but if the room over the plaza it might get a bit loud.

Everything about this hotel is very fine, if expensive enough. The bedrooms are faultless. Check-in was too long and involved, with unnecessary paperwork, and if you arrive by car the very restricted street space can be an insuperable problem, until a doorman turns up. Once or twice, they didn't. But once checked in, it was a very good place to stay. Sincerely high class.

We really enjoyed our stay and were particularly pleased with the upgrade: Wonderful view of the Duomo! The furniture testifies to charm and style, the service was perfect, the breakfast buffet was a dream and especially impressed was the daughter from the chocolate sauce to the waffles. Recommended to 100%.

Addendum, since the event is already something but is in permanent memory.
This hotel was booked by telephone on the day before arrival by American Express with a guaranteed credit card deposit. At check in there was no room available for us, on the contrary we were asked to leave. Apparently we and our French friends were not welcome. Mistakes happen everywhere, but it was even better than the manager… (Next I don't want to do this here) Not recommended in my personal opinion!

Brunch at the Excelsior Hotel is simply recommended from the choice of food, to the drinks, there is everything the heart desires. Breakfast the sliding transition to the hot dishes, everything fits. Staff. Keep it up! Oh yes, definitely follow the desserts. Just excellent!

The most beautiful hotel experience in Germany so far for me. Absolute 5 * + standard that thrills to the smallest detail. That's how it must be. Very attentive staff. The location is good, Domblick from our suite. The bathroom with a combination of shower and bathtub, which is actually not a combi, is brilliantly solved. Food perfect. Just fantastic.

Beautiful hotel, steps away from the cathedral. Service was excellent all around. Breakfast was delicious, as was the three course dinner we had in the French restaurant. Definitely recommend.

Extra luxury hotel with everything a 5 star hotel can have.

Exceptionally good Hotel with even better service personnel. This is also presented in their price. The Breakfast is very good! However, if you don't dress up or look wealthy they will check secretly whether you are really a guest in their house (which makes sense). But it makes for a strange feeling when you just want to go back to your room after a long city walk.

One of the best hotels I have experienced worldwide. The hotel plays again in a completely different league than the Hilton's in this world. Here the attentive and perfectly trained hotel staff knows what "guest" means. As above average as the price level is, but is also the hotel and its entire service. 5star Plus!

Good hotel with great service. Located right in the middle and next to the Dom. Couple of restaurant options, you might have to reserve in advance though. The rooms are a mix of modern and old school so might depend on what you get! Overall a good place.

One of the best addresses in Cologne, I can only recommend the Excelsior Hotel.
Very good location very good walking makes, in addition even the fantastic views of the Cathedral.
The rooms are very clean, comfortable and traditionally furnished here no wishes stay open really.

I've came the long way from South America to Cologne and couldn't have been more satisfied with my stay at this beautiful hotel. The service was excellent and I was more than pleased with the rooms. Great city and great hotel! Definitely recommended to everyone.

So I've visited better hotels. At the reception, one has misplaced my reservation and couldn't get into the room booked. So I had 30 min. Linger in the foyer, although I was still a business lunch. After 30 minutes, it had cleared, but got no excuse from the reception. The room was ok, but the bathroom was not well been cleaned. I then had my lunch in the hotel dinniert, but the food had to be served 2 times, because for the first time, the steak was served lukewarm. In all, it was no great overnight!

Перед выездом заметили, что у нас пропали деньги, сувениры с прошлых посещённых нами городов. Естественно ни кто об этом не знает. Это какое-то редкостное скотство. Ужасный, отвратительный отель. Жалкий и ублюдский отель. Крайне не советуем.

I lived with my family at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst with the 29/01/2012 to 04/02/2012. I want to warn all travelers to the case of an unpleasant experience I had at this hotel. 30.01.2012 year found that the safe was gone from the electronic part of the money left me in the store, and most surprisingly, the code that I used to close the safe, maintained and operated to open. Lost a large sum of money, 3500 € (euros). I informed the police about this intsedent. Sharing with his friend, who lives in Cologne, was surprised that a year ago her friend, who lived at the Excelsior Hotel Ernst am Dom, just robbed, removed from the safe of 4500 € (euros). Unfortunately, he did not inform the police and gave publicity to this case. I understand that to get their money, and I can not dream, but with all my heart I want to warn all, safe in this hotel is not reliable and if you use the services of this hotel, do not leave it in cash and valuables. Хочу предупредить всех путешественников, о неприятном случае, произошедшем со мной в данном отеле. 30.01.2012 года обнаружил, что из электронного сейфа пропала часть денег, оставленных мной на хранение, а что самое удивительное, код который я использовал для закрытия сейфа, сохранился и действовал для открытия. Пропала крупная сумма денег, 3 500 € (евро).
