A lovely hotel to stay in. I had a wonderful time in Helsinki. The room was always clean and tidy. I especially loved how comfortable the beds were. I also enjoyed the breakfast buffet. A huge selections of various breakfast foods, which meant we never left hungry. The staff were very kind and welcoming. Very easy to get to and from the city center with Tram 4. Ticket machines that accepted cash were not very close by. The nearest I believe is at the Katajanokka ferry terminal. I recommend not solely relying on cash when in Helsinki, card is preferred. It's nice guys, it's nice and delicious, the main thing is pancakes for breakfast.

I was there basically for the restaurants and whole building was old prison and I enjoyed spending some time there was two cells kept as it was on its original shape as a prison cell. The prison walls still there and it's very nice and you can see them around the hotel. I didn't stay at the hotel but the reception was very nice with me and everyone from the hotel staff was very polite and very helpful. It's really not nice experience to go there.

Despite the kooky nature of the hotel, the beds are extremely comfortable; on king sized beds, they are the kind that you will not feel your partner move and there are two comforters, so no fighting for comforter. The bathrooms have heated floors. I was worried about light since we were here in late spring with 16.5+ hrs of daylight, but the blackout curtains did an awesome job. Also, the restaurant is supremely delicious with lots of local flavors; a must try—water is served in tin cups!

Good. Former prison. But sauna is out of order. Windows are not possible to open without the personnel help. Breakfast is good. Parking 21 euro per 24 hrs.

Great hotel, we enjoyed our stay there. We were here in the winter and did not use any of their advertised outdoor amenities, but the location was great, the room was comfortable. The floor in the bathroom was heated! We got an extended checkout at no charge, since we went to Suonmellina and couldn't get back in time.

Hotel Katajanokka is a former prison changed to modern hotel. There are professional and friendly staff at the restaurant and reception for your needs. There are some prison cells left for show. Out of the box hotel.

Hotel that occupies what was a jail. In a quiet area of Helsinki, near the port and the most important shopping area of Helsinki.

A very unusual and atmospheric hotel. There's a Russian-speaking girl at the reception. The polite staff, the breakfasts are delicious and the food choices are varied.

A wonderful design hotel, converted from an investigative prison, which lasted from the middle of the 19th century to 2002. Only instead of cameras rooms with all the amenities, and in the corridors a soft carpet. Silence behind
thick walls full of. The rooms have a fridge with a mini bar and a kettle with all the accessories. The beds are comfortable, the linen is white, the breakfast is amazing and the staff are friendly and smiling. And the center is relatively close.

Could be better, but sufficient. The staff is ok so far. Attractions, bars and restaurants easily accessible by public transport.

For me expensive (not for its quality/price ratio, but because my needs are not so high and I prefer a simpler, simpler and cheaper place).

Nice hotel, not very central, but nice idea to convert an ancient prison to a very comfortable hotel. Very nice braakfast. In the evening very special desert — white chocolate mousse. Rooms are very comfortable. Nice reception.

Cool concept and clean. Room is just a well-decorated dorm room. No frills. Not worth what I paid. If it was more affordable, it might be more worth it. I wouldn't recommend to a friend.

Great hotel. The building is an old prison and you can tell as soon as you walk through the doors. Breakfast was very good and the staff top notch. This is from now on my go-to when it comes to hotels in Helsinki.

Hotel beautifully carved from an old prison, of which were kept the balconies and some cells. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The breakfast is very good The staff adds to the utmost professionalism but with rare warmth in northern Europe.

My partner and I stayed here for 5 nights during our visit to Helsinki. The personnel is very kind without any exceptions. The rooms are very cosy and spacious with good beds and breakfast is varied. Tram 4 goes very often right in front of the hotel (no need to check the schedule) and brings you to the center in a heartbeat if you mind walking there every day. It felt like a home during our stay. I’d recommend this hotel to everyone!

My wife and I spent a very pleasant evening in this unusual hotel which was a working prison right up to the early 2000s. The food was excellent and the staff very professional and friendly. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family.

We were there at Christmas and had booked their Christmas package with buffet in the evening and Christmas programme. The room was well equipped and quiet and the food beyond my expectations. They also had a playing room that our toddler loved. Great experience to a fair price. I recommend it.

Looking for somewhere to stay in Helsinki that is friendly, interesting with good food and packed with character? Yes? Then this is where you need to come to. From now on this will be my go to destination for business trips to this lovely city and inspirational country.

A nice hotel with very good transport connections. Every 8 minutes a tram leaves in front of the hotel in the direction of the Centre. This is not to be heard at the Hotel. If you have explored the surrounding area a little, you can get in half an hour with everything you need if you only booked Breakfast. I found it very nice that you can get a big coffee to go from breakfast in the Morning. All in all the best hotel I could find in this price range.

Nice hotel, 5-10min walk from city centre. Staff very friendly and helpful. Complimentary breakfast had a good selection. Stayed in twin superior room, Bed was very comfortable and we'll kept. Would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

Very special place, stylish hotel with very good service in the building of the former Helsinki Prison. Very nice "room-cell", good fitness room atmospheric basement restaurant with sumptuous breakfast buffet, etc. The first ever 4 min. XXL breakfast eggs. Great!

We got to eat at this place, a hotel taken from a prison. The beautiful idea in my opinion as well as the realization because it takes into account and enhances the characteristics of both the best hotels and the prison giving a unique atmosphere. The restaurant is presented in an elegant manner as well as the service. The dishes are well taken care of and tasty unique experience and to do.

It's a great hotel. Soft comfortable bed. Clean and spacious bathroom. The room has a hairdryer, an iron, a TV, a mini-bar, a safe. Breakfasts are very tasty, a sufficient variety of dishes. The entourage is unusual!

This former prison turned hotel is very much in the heart of katakanokka. It is quiet if you like that kind of hotel and the decoration inside give you a feel of being in a luxurious version of Alcatraz. The restaurant is alright, the gym is sufficient for a simple work out, nothing more unfortunately. Walking the city is more than enough exercise. It is close enough to the city so that you can explore most of the city by foot, if not a team station is just outside the hotel. We stayed in a room with its own sauna and it was a wonderful treat every evening.

I was intrigued by the history of the hotel and it was interesting to see the tall walls surrounding the hotel, a reminder of its old days. This aspect was a fun, interesting part of our stay here. The room was fantastic. We had seen pictures online with small windows but were ok with it considering the smart looking rooms, but we had a large window with a lovely view into the courtyard. The room was very smart, clean and comfortable; couldn't be happier. The service was very friendly and helpful. The stay also comes with breakfast which had a wide variety of average quality food — hot food, cold cuts, bread, fruit, cereal, the works. Plenty to keep you going on your explorations of Helsinki. The location, although slightly out of town, was absolutely no issue. There is a tram line we noticed that runs right outside the hotel but we didn't even bother and walked everywhere. I would 100% stay here again.

Very original building for being an old jail. You can walk around and there are preserved areas to visit. Good restaurant. The menu is short but the food is good and the price is reasonable. The rooms are full and the bed is oversized. Maybe a little cold… Friendly English service.

A cosy hotel in an old prison. The rooms, comfortable, were the cells. In the basement the restaurant offers excellent meat and fish dishes. A singular experience.

Interesting history of the hotel and both the building and surrounding garden is beautiful. Mostly tasteful renovation and decoration, but I dislike the carpet in the main room. Food was great and service excellent!

Went with my husband during our honeymoon. We found our room nice and cosy, without any noise coming from the outside, the whole hotel was generally quiet; the staff was friendly and helpful. I found the breakfast amazing, with a large choice of foods like breads, cakes and brioches, but also fresh salmon, herrings, salami and fruit.

Great value for money! The hotel is very good, the AC in our room worked great. They have the friendliest staff in the world. The tram stop is right in front of the hotel, you are downtown Helsinki in 10 minutes.

In an unlikely a place as you can imagine, a former jail, is a beautiful, and extremely comfortable hotel. The common areas and the room are very inviting. The staff go out of their way to help the guests. For example, I found the room a little too cool for my comfort, and they cheerfully provided a space heater. Also, the restaurant is excellent, although a bit pricey. Unfortunately it was often closed by the time I returned to the hotel, but a glass of wine (good wine, too) was always available. The transportation is extremely convenient, with a tram stop right outside the hotel. I would definitely return here.

Room was quiet and cozy with comfortable bed. However the room was a bit small for two people. It also was dusty more than usual. And if you want some fresh air — windows are problematic to open because you need a chair to reach them. No problems with shower water pressure. Breakfast was quite good. Hotel offered relatively inexpensive parking on premises (on a first come first served basis). Overall a pleasant two night stay in an unusual hotel.

Very nice Hotel in a charming location (the Old City jail). Easily reachable from the city centre by tram n ° 4 or a 15-minute walk. The rooms are small but cozy. Only flaws are the doors of the bathrooms that do not close to perfection leaving little intimacy at the most delicate moment of the day. The breakfast is really very good, one of the best I have ever experienced. Of course the salty part is the preponderant but can satisfy every palate. Too bad the sauna is only available in the morning.

Is comfortable and very original, that is located in a former prison. The staff is lovely. The breakfast, delicious. Wi-fi free in all the Hotel. Well communicated, (4 tram stop at the door), although you can scroll within walking distance to the city centre. Highly recommended.

Amazing old prison is now a hotel without pushing it too much. Number 4 tram to town is directly outside and only takes 5 minutes.
