Falsely Advertised Internet & Host Put My Safety at Risk — AVOID.
Please be warned: Cuenca Suites, managed by host Sonia, poses a serious risk to travelers expecting professionalism and safety. My one-month stay ended in a single traumatic night.
I chose this serviced apartment because it explicitly advertised a verified 45mbps internet speed, a crucial advertised amenity. Upon arrival, the internet was completely dead. The host, Sonia, who lives on-site, was dismissive and refused to address the urgent issue. The building is large with only one router, so connectivity is likely weak even when it works.
The situation escalated horrifically when I asserted my rights as a paying guest. For calmly complaining about the missing service I paid for, the host screamed at me to leave immediately, blocked my access to my room late at night, and forced me to barricade myself inside while she made threatening calls outside my door. I was a foreigner alone, genuinely scared of what might happen.
She then completely abandoned communication. With the help of Airbnb, I secured a refund and fled to a hotel the next morning.
Additional Context: Other reviews confirm a pattern of neglect in crises (e. G. A sick guest denied help). This is not just poor service; it’s a fundamental failure of duty of care. The apartment itself is okay, but the management is dangerously unreliable. Do not risk your money or peace of mind here. There are many better, safer, and more honest options in Cuenca.

Cuenca suites is fabulous! The location is SUPERB. There is a park right around the corner along with multiple restaurants, bars, cafes, and markets. Great Wi-Fi. DirecTV in english and spanish. Super super safe with a locked wooden door at the street, a locked iron gate, and then of course, your personal locked door like you would have in any hotel, keyless entry with just a card to enter. Endless hot water. Super comfortable beds. Plenty of blankets and pillows, all very warm and cozy. The owner is incredibly kind and accommodating, especially so during the pandemic. Everything was super clean, crisp white sheets, white towels, just as you would expect in an upscale hotel. There was also plenty of supplies for cooking. I cannot recommend this place enough. I will not stay anywhere else for my next visit in Cuenca.

Cuenca Suites is in a great location, 10 minutes walk to the central part of the historic district, and surrounded by good restaurants and shops. The room and kitchenette was very clean, well appointed for a short stay, and secure. Rebecca and her partner are fabulous hosts and very helpful.
