Reviews of Mundo Nuevo Eco Lodge
This place was beautiful with enough positives to outweigh the few (smallish! ) issues. Positives: Very friendly staff AMAZING food (breakfast included, 15, 000 for lunch and dinner each) Beautiful views Good selection of activities (hiking to the waterfall, birdwatching, making bread, nearby coffee and chocolate tours. All from the hostel). Really strong sustainable ethics — low waste and recycling Small downsides: — It's quite far out of town and up a hill so if you have luggage you'll need to take a Moto (20, 000 per person) or a jeep (100, 000). This is sort of unavoidable so factor it in to the total cost. We did the Moto ride after rain and it was pretty terrifying. BUT, once you're up there and dropped your bags, if you like hiking you don't really need to take the journey again. — If you like a nocturnal toilet trip SOME of the dorms are absolutely ages away from the loos. Worth ringing to make sure you're at the right side of the hostel!
Be warned, it is a long and steep walk to Mundo Nuevo but well worth it! You can get a moto taxi from the town (terrifying) and can also get a jeep. The hostel itself is a haven for relaxation. The food is fantastic, the accommodation is great — you can even sleep in hammocks if you want! The wildlife in the area is incredible… as soon as you leave the hostel it’s easy to spot amazing butterflies and the bird watching tour comes highly recommended. We saw toucans, military macaws and a variety of other amazing birds. If you are staying in the dorms behind the bar, it’s a bit of a trek to the loos at night! Also, the view is incredible, both from the toilet and just in general. I loved it!
