SOF Hotel

Old decrepit building converted to a hotel, exposed concrete and ceiling, aesthetic probably not for everyone. Lobby is nice, rooms are decent but bathroom area is tiny, poorly ventilated and room dimly lit. Some complaints of mosquitos.
Relatively close (walk and one bus stop) from Taichung Train Station (not HSR). The main downside to this area is slightly seedy with gambling dens nearby but perhaps expected for the price.

Great stay at SOF Hotel! My wife and I really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and convenient location. The room was clean, comfortable, and perfect for a relaxing getaway. Definitely a pleasant experience and we would be happy to stay here again. 😊

Cool concept in theory, but quite bad experience in reality.
1. Deafening construction outside building starting at 7:30am,
2. You can hear all noise outside your room including slammed doors/talking/water flowing in the walls when toilets flush,
3. Wi-Fi is basically unusable.
Stay elsewhere if you’re a light sleeper and/or want decent rest. Location is great though — walkable to many great spots.

Honestly no complain for the price point.
​I had a great stay here and would definitely recommend it for the location alone. It’s incredibly convenient—less than a 5-minute walk to the bus stop for the high-speed train and within easy walking distance to the Second Market. The surrounding area is vibrant, with plenty of food, hair salons, and karaoke nearby.

​Service & Perks: The staff are so friendly and welcoming. A huge bonus was the free alcohol on Saturday—a really nice touch!
​Cleanliness: The room was hygienically clean, and the bathtub was spotless.
​Facilities: The TV worked perfectly, and despite being in a busy area, I didn’t find the room noisy at all.
​Vibe: It’s a pretty unique concept if you’re looking for something different.
​Room for Improvement:
​The only downside was the air conditioning; it could have been a bit stronger/better.
​Overall:
The location is excellent and the atmosphere is great. It’s a very convenient and unique spot to stay—definitely worth a try!

The first impression of SOF Hotel is great. The lobby area with garden and the room is beautifully designed. However, we were a little bit dissapointed in our stay because we paid a decent amount per night and didn’t feel like we got real value for our money. The hotel has very poor soundproofing unfortunately which makes it hard for light sleepers to fall asleep due to street noise and if you are unlucky, loud neighbours. Also, next to the hotel there were construction works going on, the hotel cannot do anything about that, we understood that but this should be at least mentioned on the website and we didn’t think it was fair to pay the full price because of all the noise. There was also no Wi-Fi in the room. However our stay was not bad but not great either. We would not book this hotel again.
Pro’s:

— Spacious and clean room (we payed extra for a large room)
— Comfortable beds.
— Cool design hotel.
Con’s:
— Not soundproof.
— Not the best neighborhood.
— No Wi-Fi in the room.

Great place to stay in Taichung. Very accessible to train and buses. The interior design concept of the exposed concrete and open air plants in the lobby is beautiful. The room layout also is cozy and modern. Service was excellent and provided amenities. There’s even a water dispenser on each floor for hot and room temperature water so I didn’t have to go out to buy water at night. Honestly this hotel has a better room than a 4 star hotel in Taipei for a much lower cost.

Got a great deal so the price was much cheaper than Taipei and much better stay. They even have discounts (we chose to upgrade to a larger room, or you can choose a free cocktail/ stay longer). Every time I passed the door to the inside I felt comfortable and relaxed. Great space design and the staffs were also very welcome and helpful.

Good: the coffee you fetch downstairs.
Bad: the unfinished hotel feel.
Weird: the location.
Quirky location in the old part of town where other small hotels also chose to be. Seedy side streets with red tones. Not nice when you’re walking to breakfast.
Design of hotel, not for me. Bare brickwork and support columns, (by design), makes you feel unsafe when you’re in bed (see photos). Paper thin walls lets you hear every word said in adjacent room.
If you happen to have a room facing Guangfu road, forget sleeping. The nightclub next door will boom boom boom your peace from 9 to 4 am.
The staff are terrific. Helpful and of good attitude. It’s just that this hotel needs relocating and rebuilding.

Nice budget hotel. Good value for the money. $60 a night. My guess is that the room is about 200 sqft. Pros: Ice cold air conditioning, clean rooms, friendly staff. Cons: Small room, bathroom sink was slow to drain, toilet was so close to the wall that you almost had to sit sideways. If you're overweight it might be challenging. Getting in and out of the bed was also challenging if you're stuck on the side of the bed facing the wall and your partner is sleeping on the other side. Crawling over your sleeping partner to use the bathroom was awkward, but also could be fun ;-).

Unique hotel with awesome front desk staff! There were 3 I wanted to compliment but only managed to get 2 names. The first one was a petite lady. Very hardworking. And the other 2 were Miss Wang and Miss Chen. Very helpful, patience and friendly. Even the housekeeper was very honest. I left a tip on the table in between the cups for him but he didn't take because he wasn't sure if that was for him. And there is another elderly aunty. Very friendly too. Overall experience is you feel so welcome and ease at home. And they even have free cocktail for us! Highly recommended this hotel.

Stayed in deluxe balcony room.
Quite a walking distance from the train station but acceptable. Friendly and nice staffs. Stayed in a chilly weather so aircon did not have to turn on so low. But we experience x1 day of warm, and the mosquitoes came out had some bites when chilling at the balcony.
Downside: no washing machine/dryer in hotel so had to walk about 5mins to the nearest laundromat. Which is at J. H. CoinLaundry/ J. H. Laundromat.
潔好自助洗烘衣坊/J. H. Coin Laundry /自助投幣洗衣店 /潔好加水站 — super near. Hotel located near red light district — but not an issue to us. A few KTVs/night life near us — might be loud sometimes.
Walking distance to 7-11/family mart. Lots of Vietnamese stalls nearby. They have water dispenser as well.
Staffs are very nice and helpful, accidentally broken a glass and they had someone came up to help to clear the glass shards. Room was spacious and sufficient for us both. Will stay again with them. They have complimentary coffee too.

It's an awesome hotel, most importantly — their hospitality, and attention to detail in providing guest a pleasant stay. Each staff we interacted was friendly and helpful. Best part — 24/7 latte, chocolate, or tea FOC. Superbly done latte, not any other coffee bean. Go experience it yourself, will definitely love to be back in this hotel and Taichung.

The design of the hotel is cool and the staff friendly — the rest is pretty bad though. Will def not come back.
Cons:
— Weirdly designed rooms and not too clean.
— Super bad sound insolation (woke up due to other guests outside my room, crying babies, super loud traffic, people yelling outside)
— Location is right next to a gambling hall, so there are hookers on the streets at night (felt unsafe)

My first visit to this hotel in TaiChung was unfortunately quite unpleasant. The room I booked online did not match the reality; it was considerably smaller than depicted in the photos. They marketed themselves as eco-friendly but failed to provide drinking water in the room. Instead, they only supplied two medium-sized cups and expected guests to repeatedly leave the room to use their drink machine throughout the day. This issue could easily be resolved with a simple large water bottle, but it seems like the hotel chose to cut costs rather than prioritize guest convenience. This lack of attention to detail and experience in hotel management was disappointing.
However, the most frustrating and disturbing aspect of my stay was the unprofessional and disorganized hotel management. They assigned me a room on the 7th floor, which happened to be the top floor of the building. Unfortunately, construction work was taking place directly above my room from 9 am until 5 am the next day. As a guest on vacation, I did not appreciate being awakened by the noise of construction. To make matters worse, when I called the front desk to address the issue, they were unhelpful and simply informed me that the construction would continue until 5 pm, offering no solution or assistance. It is not unreasonable to expect soundproofing in a hotel, but it seemed nonexistent in this case.
