I purchased a groupon to use at this hotel. I'm sure the hotel is great but what I'm pissed about is their cancellation policy. I live in the U. S and I purchased the groupon back in December 2019 to use on March 21st and 22nd, 2020. Obviously, this was prior to any COVID-19. Flash forward to March 20th (a day before the hotel dates), the U. S and canada closed the borders to non-essential travel. Great, now I need to change the dates of the reservation… called the hotel and they said I have to call groupon. Spoke to groupon and they won't change the dates but can give me a refund. Ok, fine. Oh but wait. I'm now subject to a cancellation fee and they won't budge on not charging me for it. I would have been perfectly happy changing the dates of my reservation but how I'm pissed and stuck with only a partial refund for something that was absolutely out of my control.

I heard about the bad service you had for people on Facebook. I will not recommend my company to use your hotel.

The lack of concern and disrespect to paying hotel guests, who were outright violated within hours of checking in, their personal belongings removed/stolen from their room. The desk clerk and manager show no empathy to the hotel guests. Such unprofessional and appalling behaviour to insinuate the guests were at fault. Talk about low standards of tourism and hospitality sector. Signed distraught and concerned mother and grandmother.

Fast check in, fast check out. Great room and available services. Excellent 3 star hotel experience.

While the location of the hotel itself is nothing special, it is only a short drive from the downtown scenic area. The attached Sharks Club bar has great food available until late hours. The hotel staff are friendly and helpful with suggestions for tourists. The rooms are what you would expect from a Sandman, not flashy but not underwhelming. There is a sushi restaurant and a liquor store in the same parking lot as well.

The location was close to downtown. It was near a main Street that seems to connect to everything. The room was nice and spacious. We ordered room service and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would definitely stay there again!

I had beer and food at the Shark Club. It was decent enough, the food was good! It would have been nice if there was a special on the pitchers of beer!

Hotel is not really that old as it has changed into Sandman from whatever it was before. Location is good as you are close enough to downtown but everything is only 5 minutes away in Victoria. Rooms are spacious and are good for a place to sleep as they are kept very clean. Nice that they have Shark Club attached as well as other restaurants in walking distance.

Older hotel but it has a convenient location. My room was clean but I found the mattress lumpy and too soft — — more like a lumpy hammock than a bed. Staff did give me a room on the 4th floor when I asked for a quiet room. Only problem with that was only 1 of the 2 elevators worked so guests had to compete with cleaning staff for that elevator.

I actually went to the shark club underneath for wing Wednesdays. I'm pretty sure they have the cheapest deal for wing Wednesdays. The place can use an update, but I'm sure they won't be getting one soon, the seats are really worn in and the decor is outdated. Oh well, Victoria. Lots of screens with the sports on though, so great place to catch the game if that's what you're looking for.

I am giving it 4 starts because the staff was outstanding. Friendly and smiling. The room was also clean and the pool was the big draw for me. I will say that when I opened my room door, I was expecting a bit more. I felt let down a bit. It was clean and the beds were comfy as can be. I wasn't looking for high class but I did expect more. A bit plain.

God forbid you spill a drink on the bed sheets, they will charge you for brand new ones. Cheap price up front but if they get a chance they will gouge you.

Always a great place to come. Shark Club food and drinks are delicious. Sandman service is nice, rooms are always nice and comfortable. The room I have has a mini kitchenette! Lounge seating, and two queen beds. Smells clean, nice windows etc.

The location is great, only a 20 minute walk from downtown Victoria, no transit needed. Everything was supplied to us during the course I was attending, they were unbelievably accommodating for diet needs and food sensitivities. Always friendly.

Nice clean place with a sharks club down stairs. The sharks club is the hotel restaurant and you can't take kids into it but they have a side dining area for breakfast and they were very nice about serving us lunch/dinner out there.

Stayed here due to perks provided by their loyalty program. Stay at the sandman was good for an overnight for us but with the size of the room and kitchenette would be suitable for an extended stay. Comfortable bed, clean room, quiet hotel and a decent location in town. Overall a good experience.

Loved it great beds great pool big fitness area. Nice rooms great low price.

Good place to relax after a long day at work or on the road. Close to the harbour with pleantyvof free parking.

Positives: Nice hotel — Clean. Friendly service and friendly cleaning staff. Lots of parking. Parking available for larger trucks. Negatives : Vending machines were empty of every single type of pop, even water, on every single floor. Indoor pool is very cold so we only went the one time.

Nice hotel. Affordable It's a family business chain. Clean rooms. Lot of options. Center of downtown and uptown. Bus stands just in front of the hotel. Has a pool. Gym Grate staff All I can say is best for affordable price.

I cannot even remember the last thing me I slept thrips well and woke up feeling well rested. The beds are the oat comfortable ever.

They gave us breakfast and the hotel was really clean. The service was really great, too.

Nice, clean and very central. Close to downtown and Douglas st for quick out of town access.

This hotel was clean and quiet. Close to the Save on Foods Memorial Arena. The Shark Club offered good food and a fun environment. We would definitely stay here again.

I attended a Gem and Minerals show. The jewelry was lovely and wide and varied selection. The minerals was equally well represented. I would recommend going to this show to everyone.

Very good hotel, the experience in this is very good.

It was a good stay overall for two nights. Got the Corporate King Suite. The rooms smelled like old stale cigarettes and the bathrooms were completed outdated. In serious need of a renovation. The staff could be trained a bit better as they weren't familiar with procedures.

Clean rooms and nice staff. The windows don't open so it gets a little stuffy in the rooms.

Sandman, Victoria On our Canada West round trip, our way to Victoria took us for an overnight stay at Hotel Sandman with free Wi-Fi. The rooms were used as apartments with small kitchenette, living room, spacious bathroom, bedroom with 2 large queen-size beds, refrigerator. On each floor there was a soft drink vending machine and the typical ice cream machine. The room was clean and tidy. The hotel has a swimming pool, which we did not use. The front desk and gastronomy staff was friendly. We belonged to a tour group. The travel provider ordered a fixed breakfast for anyone with 2 toast, scrambled eggs, 2 bacon, 2 sausages, 1 glass of juice and coffee as much as you wanted. The hotel is regular without a breakfast offer.
Pit China Town to the port, parliament, zoo, museum, shopping, pubs, etc. James Bay is easily accessible from the hotel and down Government Street or Douglas Street.

We went only for drinks and dinner in the bar. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating and the food was spectacular once again. My only complaint is price point.

Waitresses are very attractive. Stereotypically, Shark Club waitresses are known for their large bossoms. The wings are very good too; Wednesday wing night!

Im from out of town here for a work trip. My check in time was 4pm but when I got there at 12, they've already finished it for me! Now I don't have to keep my luggage in my car while I work till 11pm! And the gentlemen at the lobby reception is professional and patient. Good job.

Food is awful in both restaurants. Expensive and served cold. Accommodations were fine.

Very good, upgraded to a jacuzzi suite. King bed. Friendly staff. Waitresses at the shark club awesome. Parking spots are a bit tight.

This Sandman has a great location about 20 minutes from downtown. Although it is on a busy street, the rooms are remarkably quite and comfortable. The rooms are clean and well maintained. The only sad part was the breakfast we had at the hotel. The restaurant is operated by another company but it's hard to keep it completely separate on the score board.

Absolutely perfect location for a stay in Victoria, walkable to almost anywhere. Rooms are spacious but a bit dark. Shark club right in the building is a fast excellent place for a quick bite or drink. Wish it had a Denny's like other sandman hotels. Also don't expect to get much work done on the Wi-Fi. It is almost unusable in the evenings. 5 stars it if had a better breakfast option and decent internets.

Stayed overnight here and needless to say the housekeeping is not acceptable. None of the tables in the room were wiped down, mirrors were dirty, and the TV remote didn't even have a power button. In the hallways dishes were left outside of the rooms for nearly 24 hours, and outside the elevator on the 2nd floor somebody's leftover food was left for an entire day. I know people walk by from the staff and that should have been dealt with. It's clear that the staff do the minimum required and that makes this hotel a bit less than average. A few changes and this hotel could really be something. I hope this can be fixed.

Highly recommend even if you have pets, very nice staff and the room was great.

I was displaced by a fire and this was the only place in the city that would allow me to bring my cat. The staff are courteous and friendly and professional. My room was larger than I expected and well appointed. The attached Shark club bar and grill has amazing pub food at reasonable prices. Even though the reason for my stay was unfortunate, the accommodation was exemplary. Thank you, Sandman.

I was really impressed with the comfortable bed, top notch. Also I judge a hotel by the bath tub. Yours are long and wide and comfortable, your Seattle's Best complimentary coffee is excellent and your rooms are super clean, and quiet. Also, being able to walk out to an ashtray in your parking lot was appreciated as I don't smoke in my vehicle and everywhere in Victoria there were no smoking signs even in mall parking lots, it was appreciated. In my city we don't have signs to not smoke in parking lots only 30metres away from doors and windows. At least I didn't feel the restrictions in your parking lot. It is important to a person who does smoke after a long journey. Don't take that away, as I will tell people to stay at your hotel while in Victoria!

Due to an issue with my reservation at another hotel, I had to make a last minute booking at the Sandman in Victoria. I have to say I am glad I did. Best hotel experience I've had in a very long time. Room service, attached pub, hot tub and pool. All staff were very courteous and helpful. I plan on my next trip to Victoria invoking a return to the Sandman without question.

Rooms bathroom was disgusting. Plugged sink. Leaky shower. Caulking around toilet was brown. Ac didn't work. Kitchenette wasn't functioning.

Very solid hotel. Rooms and parking are good. Staff at the front desk are super nice. I always feel welcome.

The bed bugs were great, very accommodating. Fortunately, I get to bring them home with me. Luckily my room had a kitchenette, with a double burner that would get so hot it ruined everything I tried to cook. It couldn't have been a more pleasant experience.

A very positive experience indeed. They upgraded our room for free so that qas cool.

We arrived and found out they upgraded our room to a suite for free and did not charge us an incidental fee! Lovely service and wonderful clean rooms.

Just looking at pictures it seems very good with the price.

I thought the hotel was clean, service was great, not bad for the price. Bed was really comfortable but they could replace the peeling toilet lid. The location is nothing to brag about and the pool is kinda small. They also could use a plug in near the bedside tables so I could charge my phone but not the end of the world.

My main complaint is the fact that they only have really soft pillows. I would've preferred firmer ones. The TV is also tiny and has no TV guide. Otherwise it seemed adequately clean and kept.

Cant speak to the other peoples comments because we had no problems. We initially stayed at a downtown hotel who were terrible to us so we came here. Pet friendly, quiet room and friendly staff. Our room was clean. There is a bar attached and there are people going in and out alot but we didnt hear any noise from our hotel room which was on the second floor directly beside the elevators.

Awful. Very dirty. Had a friend who worked there only for a couple days because the housekeepers who showed her how to do things didnt do it as well as they should. They rinsed cups instead of washing them. Picked up crumbs off beds instead of changing blankets. Overall not safe.

We went at a time when the pub connected (Shark's Pub) was a having a Dodgeball tournament. This meant that the Lobby was inaccesible to unload your luggage from your vehicle. As we drove up music was pounding which would be appropriate for the tournament but being african american descent, hearing the music throw out deragatory terms about my race and having my kids hearing that type of music was a bit challenging. I think I would have cacelled my room but that would mean I would have lost 100% of my reservation because it was online. The staff including the GM was all but lacking in customer service. You know the difference between actual courteousness and forced, that is what the GM seemed to struggle with. Maybe he was having a bad day. He was dishevelled and lacked good customer skills, he was great with his staff as I observed a generous and energetic exchange between him and a staff member but when it came to customers, it was lack lustre and seemed like a chore. The rooms were fine, not really great for the price but it is Victoria in August.
