Basecamp Lodge Canmore

We booked Basecamp Resorts Canmore for a wholesome ski trip to Lake Louise. What we got was an Olympic village side quest, emotional damage from overtime hockey, and bagels that altered our life trajectory.
First of all: the staff. Polite. Welcoming. Informative. Suspiciously competent. The kind of people who look you in the eye and make you believe everything is going to be okay — even during Canada vs. Finland Olympic overtime. They gave us a late checkout so we could finish the game, which is not customer service. That’s nation-building. That’s diplomacy. That’s heritage preservation.
And overtime? Deadly. Heart rate monitor screaming. The Score was chat feral. Neighbours probably concerned. Worth it.
The room? We booked 2 queens. What we experienced was a spatial anomaly. Somehow 3 queens and a king once we entered the chat. I don’t know if the square footage expanded or if we simply evolved as people, but it was clean, comfortable, and perfect after a day of skiing like confident beginners who watched one YouTube tutorial.
Beds? Elite. Sleep? Deep. Like a body at a funeral. You would have heard "they are finally at rest" in the eulogy.
Now let’s discuss the location. Prime. Tactical. Right next to Rocky Mountain Bagel Co. — where the bagels are so fresh they have main character energy. The brew? Elite. Not “this is good coffee. ” No. This is “I forgive my enemies” coffee. This is “I could run for office” coffee.

My partner and I stayed one night on Valentine's Day and couldn't have had a better experience somewhere else. The workers did a great job decorating my room for Valentine's Day. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Checking in and out is made easy with it being virtual. Will definitely be back!

What is the point of advance self check-in if you still have to enter through the lobby to access your room?
There are no signs directing you to your unit from the parking lot. The only signage present lists unit numbers for the nearby resort, which is owned by the same company and uses the exact same unit numbers and nearly identical exterior paint. This makes it extremely confusing to know which building you are supposed to go to.
I initially went to the wrong building and only realized the mistake when the provided keycode didn’t work. I then had to walk all the way to the main entrance to ask the front desk to locate my room—completely defeating the purpose of “self check-in. ”
Guests are also expected to return to their car to place a parking permit after check-in. In freezing weather, this is very inconvenient. Why not track parking by license plate instead?
To make matters worse, the rear door is exit-only and cannot be used to re-enter the building. While rooms use smart keycodes, the exterior doors have no keypad or access control, forcing guests to walk back to the main entrance in the cold. Either install proper access or don’t advertise a “smart” check-in system—this feels unfinished.
Overall, the mandatory online check-in created more friction, not less. I won’t be staying here again and can’t recommend this property. I’ll be avoiding places with required online check-in going forward.

We’ve used base camp as a family for many years now and we like its location as it’s easily accessible to downtown and many restaurants.
It really feels like you’re nestled in the mountains and the views are astounding.
You are literally backing onto the train tracks and because of this ear plugs are offered in each room. We have found that turning on the air conditioner fan alleviates most background noise. If you’re a light sleeper choose somewhere else as this location might be an issue for you.
The staff that we’ve experienced in the past and on this trip were very friendly and helpful when needed. Personally I in general appreciate friendly approachable staff.
The room was sufficient although the sink in the bathroom had a large very noticeable crack and I was not informed but the staff was aware.
The toilet paper holder is too close to the toilet and the roll would fall off and onto the floor every time you used the toilet; very unsanitary!
The location is very close to the train tracks and if you’re a light sleeper choose another location to avoid disruption.
Ear plugs are supplied and we’ve found turning on the air flow fan alleviates most noise.

The room was clean and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable. The only service is via the online communication. There is no check-in before 4:00 p. M. Unlike at many other facilities. It would have been nice to have decaf coffee in the room or some sort of decaffeinated tea.
Overall it suited our needs for an overnight stay.

We enjoyed staying here and the price is right, especially for Canmore. There are a few things I’d change, including increased privacy for the main floor rooms as we felt we had to keep the blinds closed so people in the parking lot couldn’t see into our room. There also was an issue with shower water pressure and I had to skip washing my hair (I don’t remember this being the case when we stayed in 2023). I did bring this up with the main desk and they said they’d send someone to look at it, but I’m not sure if that happened. If we return I likely will try and book a room on a higher floor. The staff were great and the upstairs common area was well stocked and comfortable. We unfortunately didn’t have a chance to check out the sauna but maybe next time! We enjoyed eating at the nearby Rocky Mountain Bagels and The Georgetown Inn for breakfast. It was cold during our stay so we opted to drive otherwise but parking was always easy to find! Otherwise it would have only been about a ~14 minute walk to downtown.

Stay was good. Thinner pillows would be a plus. The parking is hard to navigate as one night we had to park next door in the loading zone cause there was no parking. Also it is very tight to try to get around the building as it's super tight. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay.

Visited Canmore just for the night with my Fiancé. We chose Basecamp Lodge for the incredible value. Staff were friendly and accommodating, let us check in an hour early. Room was large and very very clean. Beds are comfortable and came with an amazing mountain view. Can’t believe the quality of experience for a fantastic price. Located close to the town centre and has everything in walking distance. We will be coming back for sure. Thanks for having us!

Nice hotel, well-situated. It matches the pictures very well. It was comfortable and cozy. Staff were friendly, professional and helpful, and they held my luggage for me as I arrived in town several hours before checkin. The coffee station is a nice touch and I made good use of the sauna which was lovely. Thanks for a great stay.

Toiletries are Rocky mountain so they smell amazing.

Base Camp Lodge was a lovely place to stay with beautiful mountain views. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a micro suite that included a full kitchen and a king size bed. Everything was comfortable and well thought out. The property also has a relaxing sauna and a cozy public space that is perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. We were only here for two nights before heading on, but if you plan to stay longer, a larger room might be a better fit. Overall, a wonderful stay and we would definitely return.

Overall the room was very nice. Close to coffee shops and the downtown was within walking distance. Within the room it would’ve been nice to have a pen and notepad just for jotting down addresses etc. Equally, lampshades would be nice just to cut down on the glare from the lamps. Maybe it’s some decorators thing but, some people still like a lamp shade. Although the train goes right beside the hotel, we hardly noticed it.
I would rebook with Basecamps again.

We had a great time staying at Basecamp Lodge! The hotel was nice/clean and the location was perfect — easy to walk to the town center and plenty of places to go nearby. The view was also beautiful from the lodge :)
They have free bikes to use in the summer which was handy. Staff was helpful as well. They also had a latte machine which we enjoyed! And the common area was great for us to spend some time in when we didn't feel like being out at a restaurant or brewery for the afternoon.

Amazing location and staff. The room was cozy and we appreciated the common area to relax or have a meal. There was a clean kitchen area where they had a self serve espresso machine. I also enjoyed the sauna after a long day hiking.

Comfortable and well appointed rooms. Mattress was great. Very clean and well maintained. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location was close enough to downtown Canmore that it was a short walk. It was right beside the train tracks, but insulation was very good. Some noise but I slept through fine.

Tiny suite with no view, unlike the photos. The parking lot had a magnificent view of the Rockies! I just wish our room had a fraction of that view. It was noisy because of the train and people around, but they did provide complimentary comfortable earplugs. The amenities were good, bed was comfortable, and I appreciated the Rocky Mountain Soap. The micro suite is truly micro — upgrade if you can! Room temperature hard to modulate. The service was good however, they did check up on us to see if we needed anything.

This was my second time staying here, but unfortunately it will be my last. I noticed the shell of a small insect on the bed during this stay. While I can’t confirm if it was a bed bug, it was concerning enough that I took serious precautions when I got home.
I brought it to the attention of the front desk, but they dismissed it and acted like it wasn’t even an insect. I was only offered clean sheets—no real investigation or follow-up. I also emailed the hotel after checking out and never received a response.
While I haven’t noticed signs of bugs since, the lack of accountability and care was disappointing. Guests deserve to feel safe and heard.
