We eat regularly, on Wednesday night in particular. Very friendly staff, steaks $10 off on a Wed night. Specials on other nights. Our favourite pizza place too. Can order pizza to take away. Delicious, but we always need to take half home. Worth a try anytime, especially winter as there's always a welcoming fire.

Shocking hotel! The rooms are clean but looks like we are in the 17th century… the bottom of the bath was destroyed and the plug was missing. The shower curtain were dirty. The carpet and furniture were 200 years old. The room had an issue of ventilation or something as inside it was 50*C much more hot than outside, which made us sleep very bad. We couldn’t keep sleeping after 6am as the house keepers/other people were noisy from very early and the walls had no soundproofing at all. The included “breakfast” was ridiculous, just composed of a smallish piece of burned bread and a coffee, eventually adding an apple! And happening in the pub room, near the gaming room. I won’t recommend to anyone to book a night there, we paid $140 per night and it is from far the worth hotel I have ever been in! The Welcome Stranger is a nice pub to play pool or have a beer, but should definitively not be an hotel.

Good selection of beers on tap, and a nice lot of pool tables in good condition.

Quiet ambiance when we visited after the Sydney to Hobart race. There's plenty of pool tables to have a game and good beer selection. It's what you'd call a standard pub. There's nothing to fault with it but it doesn't stand out either. If you're after a more lively ambiance head to a waterfront venue.

Value and manager and staff were awesome.

I would not recommend this place to anyone. Only suited for backpackers. Had a problem management said tuff take it or leave it. Which ment a 9 year old boy would have to had to sleep on the floor And the manager wouldn't even come and talk to us refered information threw his staff. A very poor show.

I only stay here when coming to Tassie. Best staff, best atmosphere, good breakfast, nice rooms. The rooms that cost not have better water pressure. Balancing the hot/cold in budget rooms is interesting. That said, it's cozy and affordable for families.

Its a good hotel reasonable service rooms are dated but have everything that you would expect your personal bathroom includes toilet shower and bath you have a kettle with tea and coffee and breakfast is complimentary served down stares you do have access to a washing machine but it will cost $5 per cycle in coins and the dryer is the same I was happy with my stay and I'll be returning in the near future.

Great value for money! Shout out to the staff — particularly the lady who checked us in, let us leave our bags there and checked us out! I left my drivers licence behind and she called me to let me know she had found it an could post it to me nothing was too much trouble HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Got a fantastic last minute deal. Check in was quick and thorough. Room was clean and provided everything required. Short walk to all CBD tourist attractions. Metered parking on the street if needed.

Was a quiet and pleasant stay. Good locality to Salamanca Place. Free parking is a bonus. The heater in the room needs to be upgraded to a heat pump.

We stayed here for just the one night after our flight got cancelled from Hobart airport. We had a great experience with the friendliest of staff. We spoke with Tom on the phone to make the last minute booking and when we arrived he was very helpful and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. Room was clean, comfortable and wasn't noisy. The bar area seemed sociable but due to the early morning flight we were unable to experience this aspect. Well done Tom and the Welcome Stranger!

The hotel is clean and tidy, free breakfast in the morning. For that price it's hard to find something better.

Very basic but clean. Nice location, free Wi-Fi, free parking, staff were nice.

Although this is a great sports bar, the food I experienced was less than great. I ordered something simple — nachos which took about 40mins to be delivered to me after asking after 30mins. During this time I saw a number of people order after me and be delivered their meals well ahead of me, including steaks. As for the nachos. The flavour was somewhat lacking. A scoop of sour cream, a scoop of avo smash, a few measly chips with a sauce that tasted distinctly of tomato paste mixed with Italian herbs.

Have stayed at the welcome stranger on 5 end of season cricket trips and with the family on 3 other occasions owner and staff are brilliant. the only time they were ever rude was if someone was out of line. great bar food as well as the best pizzas going in Hobart. great location for all your day trips. rooms are what you would expect for the price but the beds are as good as the ones at home.

I spend 2 nights at this hotel. The room was old and very dirty. Absolutely not worth the money I spend. The 2nd night was a nightmare. There was a vary loud music coming from downstairs that went on until 3 am! I could not sleep at all I can't believe I spent almost 100 bucks for a single room and I could not sleep because of the noise! Matteo, Adelaide.
