Jeremy is the GREATEST Mexican I have ever met. EPIC pool parties every Sunday. Everyone is there to party and hangout. Large common area. Our private room was just remodelled and really nice. Highly recommend this hostel. Thanks Jeremy!

Great hostel! I really enjoyed the tropical atmosphere and friendly staff. The rooms are well maintained and comfortable, and the Wi-Fi is wicked fast. I especially appreciated the free shuttle into town and the free breakfast. The breakfast consists of a large selection of options from pancakes, beans, cereal, toast, granola, yoghurt, fruit and more. Every day the hostel hosts a fun activity. My favorite was the beer pong tournament. I highly recommend and I hope to return one day!

Very affordable accommodation close to esplanade and town. Hostel has everything you need. Staff very friendly and great Wi-Fi. They have activities on every night. Sometimes the noise to the private room next to the communal area went on till late (no noise limit) though no one seemed to mind. It didn't really stop us from sleeping, the band on Tuesday nights just went on till about 22:30ish. Free no limit parking just down the block. Although, staff didn't have too much info on the trips and activities it wasn't hard to book a time in with Ally. Ally works at the tour desk and is extremely helpful with all information and we were very happy on the two trips we booked with her. Thanks, guys. Would stay again (PS free gym & yoga! We didn't get to join the yoga as we weren't available at the times but free or paid yoga is always a bonus for me)

Great hostel! About 15 minute walk out of town but the free hourly shuttle made up for that! If you like a beer or two but still have the option of going to bed around midnight this place is amazing! The night manager keeps the hostel quiet during the night. Amazing staff when I was there, I will definitely visit this place again!

Easily the best hostel in Cairns! The staff are friendly and helpful, with events organised every day of the week. Free breakfast is amazing, with fresh fruit, pancakes, toast and cereal. Every second Sunday they have a pool party which gets pretty crazy, and the bar has some of the cheapest drinks in Cairns! If you’re in Cairns, stay at Calypso, you won’t regret it!

What an amazing hostel experience, from beginning to end! Jeremy checked us in and it was as if we were talking to a friend. From there we dropped off our bags and headed straight to the Famous Sunday Pool Party! I wouldn't stay at any other hostel in Cairns!

Staff was accommodating and extremely nice! The common room was spacious and everyone hung-out together! They had two kitchen areas. Nice bar and pool to beat the heat! Jeremy at the front desk always helped out with everything! he made sure everyone felt included! I highly recommend this hostel!

I loved my stay here! Met the best people and had so much fun with all the activities they organise for each night. They have a super helpful shuttle in and out of town every hour, a BBQ at weekends and an amazing breakfast from 6-11am! Shout out to Jeremy and Koen on reception who made me feel welcome from start to finish! Will 100% be back.

Amazing hostel. Free breakfast, free shuttle busses and best of all a cheap bar. The staff make the hostel clean and the rooms are brilliant. Lots of events going and an amazing way of meeting new people.

This hostel is dope. The place offers free Wi-Fi and hot breakfast (pancakes for the win). To make up for their less than ideal location outside of the CBD, they offer a shuttle to town every hour that drops you right off at the night markets. The have a bar with some of the friendliest and liveliest staff. They offer events every night such as beer pong, killer pool, volleyball, pubcrawl, BBQ, and a pool party every other Sunday and movie nights. I would highly recommend this hostel to anyone looking for a sociable place to stay.

Wouldn't recommend as a party venue, because it isn't equipped to deal with large numbers of people. The bar is too small, the staff were snappy and unwelcoming, and the place was quite a mess.

Great Hostel, the staff are very helpful. There is a large outdoor area with a large pool and a bar, the hotel's own shuttle bus runs every hour to the city and picks you up at the airport too!

Absolutely amazing place! Loved the chilled out vibes, great atmosphere to kick back in. Axel was amazing at organising us some activities including diving The Great Barrier Reef our stay was incredible, can’t recommend this place enough. Thanks guys for all your help! Miss being there… will definitely be back.

Nice hostel with relaxed people, multiple shuttles to city and airport. Staff is helpful and hard-working! 2 kitchens and nice meeting area — good for solo or small group travellers.

It looks very tropical here, there's a small pool table, a small bar, a pool. I booked a 6 bed room for 3 people and they were so nice, they gave us a 4 bed room instead. Sam is also great with the tourist stuff.

I recently did the PADI open water and advanced open water through Cairns Dive Centre, and needed a cheap place to stay while doing the theory and pool work, and to chill out after diving on the reef for four days and three nights. Great place to chill out, friendly and relaxed vide, not too far from the town center if you want a bit more excitement at night, had double room clean and quiet. Staff we very friendly helpful and knowledgeable, especially Gessa.

Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Dont beleive the website that says they are 300m away from the esplanade in which it is not, a good 20 minutes, however the hostel runs a bus back and forth into town on the hour which was good. I dont feel there are enough toilet blocks or kitchen space, however the common areas, bar and lounge are a good spot to hang between. Good bar specials and entertainment. Beds are pretty uncomfy but you get what you pay for.

Located not too far from the airport but that doesn't matter because as part of your stay, you are able to use their free shuttle bus that they offer! Within walking distance to quite a few places. The people who work there are so chill and friendly. It is essentially backpackers paradise. Just walking through the front door and you'll get the vibe I'm describing. Highly recommended adventurers. You get what you pay for in terms of the facilities you get to use but the service from the staff and experience outweighs the cons.

Very cheap, suitable for petty bourgeoisie, the staff are very friendly.
The disadvantage is that the cabin is not soundproof.

True backpacker place in Cairns. Had a private bunk bed room with a shared bathroom. They've got events on every night like beer pong.

Nice hostel, comfy with decent bar and very friendly staff, having to pay for basic breakfast and even more for tea/coffee is dissappinting considering much cheaper hostels in Carins have it for free. The free airport shuttle makes up for it though.

I highly recommend this hostel. I've been traveling a lot in Australia and i've never been welcomed like the Calypso. Great facilities and staff, the twin room was clean and quiet, the beds comfortable and is not so expensive!

Great friendly staff, clean, large rooms with comfy beds, bar and large pool, entertainment and competitions held 7 nights a week and a free hourly shuttle bus to town. You can book travel, tours and accommodation and earn points towards drinks or accommodation at Calypso.

It's a backpacker's hostel in a convenient location, with clean rooms and friendly staff. The way to the toilet is a little long from some rooms, and it can get noisy in the evenings due to the hostel's bar.

We had a double room for the night. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Bar and breakfast on-site. Not too loud. We had no problems sleeping.

The room was small, muggy and needed airing out. The AC helped a bit, but it didn't solve the problem. You are provided a bed sheet as a blanket, but it wasn't even needed since it's so warm at night. There is two locker under each bunk bed that is big enough to fit a non-packed medium sized duffel bag. There is one main bathroom near the front of the property. The ratio of showers and toilets to people was pretty low. Hopefully, no more than 2 or 3 people had to go all at once or you'll be in a cinch. The staff were pretty friendly and helped with planning activities. The overall cleanliness of the facility was good. There are fridges for food and free Wi-Fi, but the Wi-Fi only worked in the common areas. The location was pretty inconvenient; it takes over 20 minutes to get to the city by foot. They do provide free rides to and from the city almost every half hour. 3.5/5

A few words about Calypso Inn: Great Location, amazing atmosphere, fantastic — always happy to help people. I love all the colors the Inn is painted with. The rooms are basic but believe me you don't need anything else. Just go and enjoy! :-)

Staff were friendly and helpful. Could have done without the superloud speaker inside my room announcing beer pong competitions while I try to sleep, but it only happened once and after that it was all good.

Excellent venue, extremely helpful staff, chill vibe and convenient location.

Price is right. Not sure how it is during week nights but on Friday night it's a party atmosphere until late with the music turned up and going late. Not ideal for someone who is real tired trying to sleep. Other than that the staff was great, room was clean, power outlets with power strips are nice. I actually had reception in my room unlike most places. Has washers and dryers, kitchen, bar and other nice things. I would give it a higher rating if was being kept up by the party atmosphere.

Really enjoyed my time at calypso Inn. The staff were great, really friendly and made the stay enjoyable. The rooms were comfortable, clean and had aircon which is a must in the hot weather. The free shuttle bus was super handy and we used it often. The themed nights were also pretty fun, I got to pat a crocodile and hold a snake on reptile night. Would highly recommend.

Great hostel for a more relaxed stay in Cairns. The hammocks are perfect. 25 minute walk to the town center, but there's a free shuttle for guests.

Sheets were clean and they provided a pillow. They have an I've so you can heat up the frozen pizza. Not a bad place to stay.

Bad — Room may have been clean but they still felt a bit grotty Warm water preceded to fall from the show heads but the shower rooms felt very dirty Kitchen is as you would expect from a backpackers Good — staff are very very good 5 star knowledge of what there is to do and have done it them selves Social area is also very good! Best staff ever. So friendly and helpful. Really nice atmosphere. The rooms are good. The only negative I can think about is that laundry costs 4 aus dollar but I think that's the case for most hostels in cairns. Definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed in in Australia so far.

It's a very budget option. We rented a double room. The rooms had insect screens on the windows and air conditioning. The staff were helpful. The sheets were stained but clean. The hostel is large and its main building has a central courtyard containing a pool and smoking area, a kitchen and a bar which plays very loud music to midnight each night. (The drinkers at the bar will probably be making noise for an hour or two past midnight. ) For this reason the hostel probably won't suit light sleepers or anyone who plans to go to bed early, and if you book a room it is worth asking if that room is near the bar. The hostel might suit young travellers who are looking to meet people, drink heavily and sleep late. It's a 15-20 minute walk from Central Cairns and there is a shuttle bus that runs guests back and forth.

By far the best place in cairns staff are the best friendly atmosphere fun activities certainly felt welcome ill be going back for sure.

Calypso Hostel def became our home. Most people here stay for longer, some for months. We changed all our plans and came bk to spend the whole rest of our OZ trip here with our Calypso family. The people, the location, the atmosphere, the staff, the food, the rooms — this place is absolutely amazing. And there is always something going on! The bbq´s, the quiz nights, the pool games (no one can beat Axel anyway) they always have new ideas to entertain the guests. Rooms are getting cleaned every day, the housewives are always taking care of everyone and make sure you are okay. There is always someone you can ask for advice too, Buddha and Vee are a big support and always willing to help! The atmosphere is unique, in no other hostel in the world we found anything compared to that. Make sure you go and have a chat with Tracy on the bar (she mixes incredible drinks) and that Axel doesn´t throw you into the swimming pool (almost no one comes around that tho). I absolutely love Calypso Hostel and cannot wait to go back.

Gr8. Everything just works. Only down thing was that the pool was a little bit dirty the water was clean but the palm dropped leavs in it. Good prices in the bar clean rooms and awesome service.
