We (myself, my sister and a friend) were in London at the end of June and our accommodation fell through for the first night we were going to be there. We went to the Park Plaza and we were able to get a room for the night. The room was great and the front desk staff were very helpful especially George. Overall it's a very nice hotel in a fairly central location. Unfortunately at this hotel I had the worse experience I've ever had travelling and I've traveled a lot since I used to travel for work. I committed the cardinal sin of not putting my passport in the safe. We were leaving the room for half and hour, I remember going out the door but decided that since we would not be away long i'd leave it in my back pack expecting that it would be safe. I forgot to check for it when we got back to the room. On checking out the following day having reached our other destination I realized that the pouch with my two passports were missing. To cut to the chase I called the hotel and they checked and said it was not there. I insisted that I was coming back to look for myself. I went back and searched with my two companions and the manager (Francisco). We searched everywhere, under the bed behind furniture and especially in the safe. We all agreed including the manager that it was not in the room. We went back downstairs and asked for details for the nearest police station, my girlfriend who is herself in a similar business insisted that they check the cameras in the corridor. The manager and the security personnel went to do so. In about 10 minutes the manager came down empty handed and passed us without a word and went into the office, Then the security man came down empty handed without a word to us and went into the office. Five minutes later the manager came out, pouch in hand. "Oh Mrs. Thomas good news we found the passport. " There were my documents safe and sound, naturally I was delighted. I then asked him where he found it and he advised that it was found in the safe. The security man also came over and they both insisted it was found in the safe. Now it seem to me the Park Plaza has a magic safe, as no less than 6 individuals inclusive of the manager and two of their staff had already searched the safe. It was nothing short of a lie and it was very insulting. I Made the first mistake of not securing it in the safe but you would have expected that you would not encounter something like this at a hotel like the Park Plaza. To compound it there was no apology and no suggestion of compensation for the stress caused. They know what happened, I will never know but I want everyone to be aware of what can happen. I would never stay at this hotel again and I would never recommend it.
