Terrible terrible hotel and staff. I stayed for one night — I can handle hotels being tired, lifts being small, things being old fashioned — no problem there, that sometimes adds to the charm. However — there is NO excuse for being put in a shabby, dirty, sloping room which STANK of cigarettes, had a toilet seat that wasn't fitted properly to the loo so slid off when you sat on it, had pubic hairs around it, had a filthy bathroom and sink and had a window facing the main road that didn't shut. And when I say it didn't shut, I don't mean it didn't close properly, I mean it didn't close at all! The arm was missing from it meaning it was crashing open all night and the hotel is on a main road. The alarm clock was set at the wrong time, the room and bathroom were dirty, tired, tiny and sloping, smelly, old fashioned, appliances didn't work, no kettle or coffee making facilities. I complained to the desk in the morning (I had been at a work and was not moving rooms at 2am) and was greeted by a young chap rolling his eyes at me. I was then told by I guess the 'senior' member of staff that I 'should have requested a no smoking room' when booking and that the hotel was good value for money at £80 a night and therefore I had no complaint. She was rude and couldn't careless. I asked to speak to the general manager who was not available — they emailed me today saying, and I quote 'I understand from my Duty Manager on check out you had concerns about your room. We have charged your card for the full amount of accommodation according to the agreement in your confirmation. If you want to discuss this further, let me know' A complete disregard of any of the issues with the hotel and no acknowledgement of fault. I wasn't even after a full refund — a gesture of goodwill of £10 and an apology would have sufficed. I defiantly wont be recommending this hotel to colleagues or clients in the future. All in all, a terrible experience, the best thing about it is the proximity of the tube station meaning a quick get away.
