Had a wonderful experience staying at the Smyth — highly recommended. Wonderful and attentive staff and a beautifully presented and clean room. Have stayed in many hotels in New York but this is by far my favourite. Truly one of the finest boutique hotels in Manhattan. Thanks for a wonderful stay.

It was 1 of 3 recommended by my son in the upscale Tribeca area of NYC Because the Smyth was only a couple blocks from his apartment, chose it. Small room, but king bed, nice shower head always a welcome & had all amenities you'd want, fridge, booze, iron, etc. Lower lobby has workout room. Attached corner restaurant added convenience.

Have stayed at this hotel many times in the past. Will not stay her again. There are way too many better options for the price. In fact, we stayed at another Thompson hotel, The Beekman, several weeks prior to our stay at The Smyth and it was great… what you'd expect for the money. The Smyth has very poor oversight and/or management. I will simply list the many issues experienced on our stay in late December '17 and our stay in July '17: 1) Our room was ok, average at best… big stain on the wall by the lamp, mold where the wall meets the floor in the shower, very little water pressure in the shower. 2) The hotel only has coffee in it's restaurant that one must pay for. How many hotels don't provide free coffee and water in the lobby area? 3) They only had one of the two elevators working. 4) The music in the back lobby area had constant static, like one of the speakers was blown. 5) Very small reception area that is cramped and really only permits six or seven guests. Why they didn't leave the reception area in the large space to the right of the entrance is very strange. Rug in the reception area is frayed and looks bad (obviously, who cares about this but it ends up being another thing). 6) During our stay in July, it took nearly 45 minutes to get our car from the valet. On our visit last week, the hotel had put a guests stored luggage in another vehicle and it took a while to get their bags back (again, not a big deal for me, but could have just as easily been me).

Spacious room, bathroom with shower and bath, good location.

The most amazing hotel room with terrace on 8th floor, wired with Bluetooth throughout so you can listen to music, the most comfortable beds… I’m so missing my stay right now and want to come back. The best experience, location and stay!

Everything is okay, hotel is clean but the restaurant is closing tu erling and there is no way to get to room service after 11… too early for my taste.

Amazing! Excellent front desk staff and front of the house. Amazing terrace room on the 8th floor beautiful views and Little Park was a foodies brunch perfection.

Fantastic spot. Especially if adulting. Loved it. Request a room with a balcony on the 9th floor!

Great place and good localisation near the subway. The collaborators are especially the doorkeaper are good and kind. The room are clean and have good equipment. Wi-Fi is free in the room.

Visited to meet a friend… great food. Great wine selection and a top notch location to get the night started.

Easy access. Everything I need. Bery friendly. Clean kind of weird no door on shower but not a big deal/ my concern. Would come back if I would visit surrounding area.

Staff was super accommodating from checking us in early and providing a late check-out to assisting us whenever possible. Rooms were large by New York standards and really well appointed. More suited for business travel than personal as not a ton to do without walking 10-15 minutes to Soho.

Staff gave me a free upgrade to a room with an outdoor balcony. I won't say what I said that led to this because I don't want to inspire copy-cats. But these people legitimately gave it to me for something that was completely unrelated to them. Super friendly staff, great accommodations, perfect location.

Amazing hotel. I was travelling with the family and we had a great time. Stuff was very friendly, rooms super clean, incredible service.

There is customer service… then there is the Smyth! My wife and I stayed here for our 1-year wedding anniversary and everything from the way they greet you from your car, attention to detail during check-in, small gift gestures when we got to our room, and cleanliness throughout the hotel was absolutely amazing! The Smyth Thompson Hotel was fantastic in every way — we'd definitely come back to stay here!

I was really impressed. The services are really awesome. The staffs are really patient and nice. The room is clean and very new. Couldn't ask more about it.

I didn't see much past the lobby as I just stopped in for a quick visit but the lobby bar was cute and designed as a speakeasy while it was very comfortable and clean. Modernized with an old style vintage feeling. Great location and very easy to get to via subway.

Great location for what we were looking to do. Good restaurants close by and much more within a mile or so. Not far from Greenwhich Village, Chelsea. No BS hotel. Balcony room facing west was great. Very pleased. Would stay again.

Your reservations won't necessarily be honored. Just know that going in. I made me reservation over a month ago, to check in tonight, and just got an email saying they can't honor my reservation because they're overbooked. Seeing as I won't even land for another 2 hours, I'm not sure what they expect me to do. It's also unclear why they didn't know they'd be overbooked till the afternoon of my check in, much less why you'd overbook a hotel in the first place. I'd say the location is great, which is why I booked it in the first place, but not actually having a room anymore is certainly a drawback.

This was my first time in the Big Apple. My husband booked us into this hip and trendy hotel to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. The location of the hotel is brilliant and within easy walking distance of iconic sights and buildings. The front of house staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and were happy to book us into restaurants or suggest things to see or do. Patrick in particular was great!
Our room on the 6th floor was very clean and comfortable. We didn't make use of the minibar or the in-room items to buy (! ) but being Brits it would have been nice to be able to make a cup of tea, so a kettle in the room would be a great addition. We ate breakfast daily in the Little Park restaurant. The food was very good, and service prompt. The stylishly appointed den was great for relaxing after a day pounding the streets and a good place to re-charge with a cocktail or pot of tea.
All in all, a super place to stay in a lovely part of New York.

First of all, choose a terrace room. This is the appreciation of New York Empire State Building view the most wonderful place, in addition, it's perfect for sipping champagne or eating Breakfast. Room small, but in Manhattan, that's it. The shower was great, toiletries when Burberry the smell. It smells good. Service is really hospitable, always can satisfy almost all customer needs. The only problem was the hotel charged me two times cost, so check out the time to check. I now try not to put this thing to let this thing.

My wife and I spent four days in this understated TriBeCa boutique hotel, before renovations began. We prefer the 'human' scale and residential feel of the TriBeCa neighborhood, although it's also an enjoyable short walk to all parts of the city. Thoroughly enjoyed the corner view (floor to ceiling glass) from our upper-floor suite with large bathroom, the proximity on foot to river-side parks and public ping pong tables, as well as excellent access to key NYC public transportation lines. Recommend taking breakfast in any of the many dozens of local places around the corner.

Under renovation when I visited so reception was none existent; a single doorman to direct you down a dark corridor to a lift. At the time of the visit there was no gym and room service was a sandwich from the next door coffee shop. During my stay the fire alarm went off at 3am on 2 consecutive days and the only apology was in the form of a note under the door explaining that it was due to construction on the street. Definitely not the service I would have expected from a hotel of this calibre.

Good location with nice rooms. Unfortunately the bar was being refurbished when we stayed.

This urban, sleek, and modern boutique hotel is in the heart of TriBeCa, centrally located for an easy stroll to SoHo, Little Italy, Chinatown, and the Freedom Tower. The hotel is currently being refurbished, however, as needed upgrades are a part of the cost of doing business for any successful hotel, I do think it's unfair of reviewers to 'ding' Smyth TriBeCa's review on this point. The staff has created a temporary/alternative entrance access on Chamber Street, with a interim reception and concierge office set up on the 8th floor. You'll need to use the service elevator to reach the street level, but it's a minor inconvenience, if any. And considering the lower levels are under construction, the noise and impact on my stay was a non-starter. I was amazed at how quiet it was. The hotel staff are very professional, helpful, and readily on hand for any questions or requests you might have. I was very impressed with the level of client support and customer service at this hotel, in particular, the hotel's concierge was outstanding. I was upgraded from a Queen to a King Superior room facing Chamber Street. It was large, clean, modern, and well-designed. The bed was very comfortable and I hardly heard even a peep from my neighbors. The bathroom is the room's best feature. The roomy, sleek, glassed-in shower with marble subway tiles and stylish vanity area definitely appeal to the ladies, who will have plenty of room to spread out make-up, toiletries, and hair styling tools.

Very nice rooms and affordable. Enjoy the beautifully designed furniture. It is a very convenient location. Lots of shopping and restaurants in the area. Transportation access is right there as well.

Wonderful hotel. Great location in Tribeca with easy access to park along the Hudson River (nice walk or run to Battery Park with views of Statue of Liberty) and easy walk across town to Brooklyn Bridge. Also, great access to 1, 2, 3 trains (right outside of hotel) and ACE trains. More important is that the hotel is clean, quiet and comfortable. Staff is very friendly and price is usually reasonable.

Part of the Thompson family of hotels, we love this location for its gorgeous Hudson River views (in some rooms), amazingly comfortable beds, attentive staff, and great lobby bar.

Nice rooms — small, but that is the norm for NY of course. Bed was comfy. Like the clean/non cluttered feel to the room. Note there isn't much privacy in regards to the bathroom. The staff was nice — they held our bags for us on the day we were leaving. This is one of my go to NY hotels. I like this part of the city and the hotel is clean. Free breakfast is also always a plus.
