Wonderful stay at this historical hotel! My fiance actually worked here in the 80's! So much character!

This building was originally purpose-built as a hotel though one would certainly be forgiven for thinking it was a converted monastery, which was exactly the point. Consequently the property is full of old world charm reminiscent of sights you'd encounter in Italy. Fear not, however, there is a reliable elevator and and an endless supply of hot water with good pressure, because unlike the structures of days gone by this hotel emulates, there are more than enough modern conveniences to keep today's guest happy. That said be advised — many of the rooms are very small and quite Spartan, and this may not suit everyone looking for a place to stay. As one would expect out of a monastery, the room we stayed in had only a bed, two night tables, a wooden bench, and a small wooden wall cabinet that hid an even smaller T. V. There was no chair, no desk, no mini fridge (which was unfortunate because we brought a special bottle of wine), and, for some reason, no mirror large enough to check one's appearance before heading to dinner. So, if you know this and are fine with it, I have nothing but nice things to say otherwise. All of the spaces were clean and everything smelled like sage. The ceilings are high, the air conditioning was excellent, and every staff member we encountered was lovely. We had a meal at the attached steak house and both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed every course, and we can be picky.
