Bed and Breakfast Hearts Desire Hotel

My husband and I happened upon this B&B during our road trip from South Louisiana to Granby, CO. It was our first B&B experience. I called Ms. Barbara late in the afternoon and told her we wouldn't be making it into town until probably around 10 that night. She was more than happy to accept us so last minute and made it very easy and pleasant for us. We had a large, spacious room with a comfortable mattress, seating, desk, private shower, and sink. Breakfast was AMAZING! Guinness the pup was a great host, too. We will definitely stay here the next time we're in the area. Thank you for all of your hospitality, Ms. Barbara — definitely a highlight of our trip.

An absolutely lovely and hospitable environment. Breakfast was delectable. The owner is a gem of a woman. I would never stay anywhere else but here.

Barb is an amazing lady and an awesome cook! My husband and I stayed one night in her picturesque top floor room and enjoyed it thoroughly. Comfortable beds and the most delicious breakfast with eggs, ham and pumpkin pancakes at an inn with such an interesting history. You can't go wrong staying here especially with such reasonable prices!

This former (late 1800's) boarding house is pet friendly. Barbara prepares an excellent breakfast. Note that not all rooms have a private toilet or shower. I would stay there again… in fact we stayed there on two occasions, eleven days apart.

Hearts Desire B&B is a really neat place. The house has a LOT of history and it's filled with all sorts of antiques and neat things that fit nicely with the layout of the house. We stayed in the Victorian room which was extremely comfortable, neat and clean. Our host, Barbara was charming and hospitable. We really enjoyed our stay and next time we come through Raton, we know where we'll be staying (if not just stopping by to say hello).

Such a beautiful home and Barbara and Guinness are genuinely warm and friendly. I'm so glad I found this place! Awesome and real food for breakfast. Barbara upgraded my room and it was perfect. I wished I had a chance to get there earlier to really enjoy being there instead of rushing in late and leaving early!

I love this place and look forward to my stay as I go back to Texas in a few days. It's an exciting step back in time, but with modern conveniences. The rooms have a sink in them, otherwise there are two bathrooms in the house to share, which was actually not that big of an inconvenience. The breakfast in the morning was quite impressive, coffee was delicious, and the owner is incredibly accomodating, nice and caring. My dog loved it too, and there was a backyard for him to run around in as well. The other guests were very nice, quiet and respectful as well. Just a note, I would be hesitant bringing small children/ babies due to the noise factor and the house being full of beautiful antiques.

The Heart's Desire is everything you could want in a B&B — great home, beautiful antiques, delicious breakfast! But it is the personal care that the owner, Barbara Riley provides, that really ranks Heart's Desire as None of the other motels or hotels in the area provide any kind of shuttle service for train and bus riders — and she was kind enough to pick up my 75 year old Mom from the train station and make sure she had a wonderful time in Raton — she even brought her to the Home Coming Parade! Whether you are riding by car, train, or bus — stop in at Heart's Desire — you will be glad you did!

Most ratings for this B and B are excellent. Hmm. I don't want to sound mean, but we really did not like. I booked this for our anniversary. This is no place for guys. Unless you like old stuff all over every room, do not book. The owner was pleasant in the morning. Lovely breakfast. Good coffee. We could not handle the one shared bath tub for 3 families. We paid almost double for a room with a private bathroom. But it did not have a stool. Just a shower. Refrigerator was unplugged. So was TV. Old used bar of soap in our shower. Listing said 600 S a. Ft. It was 160 as. Ft. Old narrow stairs. Again, every room is totally packed with glass antiques and many dolls. There were old dolls all over our room. Some were sort if scary. Ha. Appreciated the owner letting us take coffee to our room. Prob not the place for Midwest family types.

Cozy B&B in a historic house at a great price. We needed a place to stay after driving for 13 hours and booked a room here based on the reviews. A classic B&B with rooms upstairs decorated with antiques. Most rooms have a full or queen bed and there is a common bathroom. One room has its own shower. The hostess was gracious, helpful and very nice. Breakfast was excellent!

We stayed at this bed & breakfast because of high reviews, and only mid to low end hotels were available that weekend near the state park. Now I would stay there even if the best hotel was available. The host, Barbara, is welcoming and friendly, but also gives you your space as needed = just the right amount of interaction. The entire property is completely clean and inviting. Barbara will fix your gourmet breakfast whenever you need it, and it is truly delicious. She checks with you the night before for any food likes/dislike, coffee or not, etc. We needed to be at the state park by 7:45, and she told us she could make breakfast even earlier than 6:30am as needed. Also important is the hotel's location in the heart of Raton. If you want to walk the downtown and historical area, you're right there. You can pick up an ice cream cone, go to the live theater, and see the movie that's showing. Yet you're still so close to the freeway, there's no advantage to booking a hotel at the exit. The beds are comfortable, with white, fluffy robes waiting. Our room had it's own sink and shower, though this may not be true of all rooms. There were lots of towels. The water glasses were glass instead of plastic. The windows opened easily for fresh air, good ceiling fans for circulation, and the air conditioning worked well. Free Wi-Fi and interesting magazines. You can sit out on the porches and back yard, and in the early morning, deer come around to feed on Barbara's roses.

WONDERFUL! We have stayed at Heart's Desire twice, and have had a wonderful experience each time. The house is lovely and comfy, and Barbara Riley is a delightful person and cooks a wonderful breakfast to boot! On our last trip, we had trouble with our rental car on a weekend when no service was available. At our wit's end, we called Barbara, who was happy to travel across town to pick up us and our belongings in a driving rainstorm. In addition, she used her local contacts to help get us back on the road at a time when all of the repair shops were closed. Thank you so much, Barbara! We can't wait until our next opportunity to visit Heart's Desire B&B!

Make sure you record your conversations with this woman to playback when you arrive. She tends to only hear what benefits her. The upstairs has only 1 bathroom for 3 rooms and there's only a tub in it. The lodge on the top level only has a half bath. Downstairs you will find a full bath, that she also uses as her pantry. Make sure your things are locked up, my kids soap and shampoo grew legs and walk away. I had booked a room for 2 nights, but some how the 2nd night my room was given to someone else. She said she would have made room for us, but that translated into "you can sleep on the couch in the living room or the floor but I'm still charging you the same price. " Also if you have children DON'T stay here. She expects kids to make no noise at all and if they do you get told to keep them quiet. The breakfast wasn't anything special. I could have made it at home. We ended up spending our second night at a local hotel. We were much more comfortable and I didn't have to listen to her constantly tell my teenage boys to be quiet. I will NEVER stay here again nor will I recommend this anyone.
